Warriors Expressed Interest In Dwyane Wade

Sep 26, 2017 1:56 PM

The Golden State Warriors reached out to Dwyane Wade's camp following his buyout agreement with the Chicago Bulls.

The talks were brief and he's expected to join the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Wade made it clear he still wants to play significant minutes on a contender. The Warriors weren't clear on how much playing time they can offer Wade.

The Cavaliers offer Wade a bigger opportunity and the ability for him to reunite with LeBron James.

Steve Kerr: NBA Has Almost Eliminated Power Forward Position

Sep 25, 2017 6:41 PM

Steve Kerr spoke about how the NBA has moved away from traditional power forwards in which those players are almost exclusively either centers or wings.

"The other thing that hurts all the centers is there's no four-man anymore," Kerr said. "David West used to be a four, now he's a five. (Kevon) Looney -- ten years ago would have been a four. Now he's a five.

"So as a result, we end up with six centers on a roster ... now you're either a five or you're a three. The four position has almost been eliminated from the NBA.

"Unless you're Draymond Green and you just play whatever the hell position you want to call it."

Spurs Used Tech Industry Of Austin In Pitch To Andre Iguodala

Sep 20, 2017 12:14 PM

The San Antonio Spurs only had their non-taxpayer midlevel exception available to offer Andre Iguodala in free agency.

With Iguodala known to have a history investing in tech companies, the Spurs attempted to pitch him on opportunities that could be available to him nearby in Austin.

Iguodala sought to remain heavily involved in tech even if he left the Warriors.

The Spurs hoped their culture and the ability to remain close to the tech world would convince Iguodala to leave the Warriors.

Andre Iguodala Nearly Left Warriors For Rockets

Sep 20, 2017 11:09 AM

Andre Iguodala was disappointed by the Golden State Warriors' opening contract offer in free agency of $36 million over three years with a partial guarantee in the final year.

Rival teams believed Iguodala wanted a three-year deal close to $50 million that was fully guaranteed.

Iguodala felt as though he had already sacrificed financially when he signed with the Warriors on a four-year, $48 million deal and then accepted a lesser role when Steve Kerr became coach.

Bob Myers increased the Warriors' offer to $42 million over three years with a partial guarantee in the third year.

Iguodala ceased communication with the Warriors at that point.

When free agency began, Iguodala took a conference call with the Los Angeles Lakers and then met in person with representatives from the San Antonio Spurs. San Antonio offered Iguodala a four-year deal that was fully guaranteed starting at the $8.4 million non-taxpayer midlevel.

The Sacramento Kings were the final team to meet with Iguodala on the opening night of free agency. They were committed to giving him the highest offer on the market but only if he accepted it on the spot.

The Houston Rockets' meeting lasted almost two hours and was termed as "the best recruiting presentation of all time," according to a source within Iguodala's camp. The Rockets offered a four-year, $32 million deal via their mid-level exception, but Daryl Morey also talked about various sign-and-trade scenarios that would be more lucrative. After the meeting, there was a strong sense Iguodala would end up with the Rockets.

Iguodala reopened communication with the Warriors later on July 1st and met in-person with Myers and Kerr. The objective from Iguodala's perspective was to personally say goodbye, according to sources. Iguodala wasn't budging from his request of at least $16 million per season and he was prepared to join the Rockets.

After the meeting, Iguodala's rep called Myers one last time to see if they could get a deal done. Myers then called Joe Lacob who approved a three-year, $48 million deal.

Kevin Durant Apologizes For Twitter Comments About Thunder, Billy Donovan

Sep 19, 2017 2:39 PM

Kevin Durant spoke about his Twitter incident from Monday in which he was caught talking about Billy Donovan and the Oklahoma City Thunder from a fake account.

"I have another Instagram account, but that's just for my friends and family," said Durant. "So I wouldn't say I was using it to clap back at anyone. I use Twitter to engage with fans. I think it's a great way to engage with basketball fans. I happened to take it a little too far. That's what happens sometimes when I get into these basketball debates about what I really love, to play basketball.

"I don't regret clapping back at anybody or talking to my fans on Twitter. I do regret using my former coach's name and the former organization I played for. That was childish. That was idiotic, all those type of words. I apologize for that.

"I don't think I'll stop engaging with fans. I really enjoy it and it's a good way to connect us all, but I'll scale back a little bit right now and just focus on playing basketball. I'll move on from that, it was tough to deal with yesterday. I was pretty mad at myself. Definitely want to move on and keep playing basketball.

Warriors Sell Jersey Sponsorship To Rakuten For $20M Per Year

Sep 12, 2017 10:50 AM

The Golden State Warriors have agreed upon a three-year, $60 million jersey sponsorship with Rakuten.

Rakuten is a tech company based in Japan who is also the jersey sponsor for Barcelona. Rakuten is paying nearly $60 million per year for their sponsorship of Barcelona compared to $20 million per year for the richest deal in the NBA.

"We love sports," Rakuten founder and CEO Hiroshi Mikitani told ESPN. "There's a lot of emotion to it -- great stories, smiles and tears."

"We actually had multiple finalists," Warriors chief marketing officer Chip Bowers said. "This was not the biggest deal that we were offered."

Rakuten opened up its North American headquarters in San Francisco in 2015.
