Steve Kerr: Steph Curry Is 'At His Peak Physically, Mentally'

Oct 14, 2019 2:25 AM

Steve Kerr said that Steph Curry is peaking both mentally and physically as he heads into his 11th year in the NBA.

"He's at his peak physically, mentally. He's seen every defense that people have thrown at him now during his career, and he's ready to have a great year ... because it's the perfect time physically and mentally where everything's come together. He's in his prime age-wise, strength and conditioning-wise and defensively he's seen everything that's come his way. Teams have played him every possible way that you could think of, and he's had years now to work on counters. So he's kind of in his sweet spot right now," said Kerr after Warriors practice on Sunday.

Alec Burks echoed Kerr's sentiment, saying that Curry is "locked in."

Curry added that he expects to have the ball more in his hands this season without Kevin Durant, and as Klay Thompson recovers from his ACL injury.

"I'm going to have the ball in my hands a lot more. Just got to make the right plays, be confident, aggressive, assertive every possession. And that gets the dominoes falling, [to] use a term that he uses all the time. If you draw attention and you don't have a shot, move it on. It might come back around to you, other guys get touches, and we start to create and get offense that way," said Curry.

Marquese Chriss Open To Signing Two-Way Deal With Warriors

Oct 10, 2019 12:08 PM

Marquese Chriss would be open to signing a Two-Way contract with the Golden State Warriors if he has no other options.

“I want to be in the NBA right now,” Chriss said. “So, I think if it comes down to it, that’s something I’d have to consider, that’s something I’d have to think about, but I just want to make the most of this opportunity and build from it.”

Chriss has been impressive early in the preseason for the Warriors.

After being a lottery pick in 2016 by the Phoenix Suns, Chriss has now played for four teams in three seasons.

Draymond Green On New-Look Warriors: 'A Lot More Teaching' During Training Camp

Oct 5, 2019 12:29 PM

Draymond Green noted the lack of familiarity on the Golden State Warriors roster following practice on Friday.

"Just the lack of familiarity. You get used to a certain thing for so long, and then it's not that. The normal reads that you would make, just kind of second nature, you got to make sure they're there. It's just a lot more making sure everyone's on the same page, or getting there. Everybody's not on the same page, which is to be expected," said Green.

The Warriors lost Kevin Durant, Andre Iguodala, and Shaun Livingston this offseason.

Klay Thompson will be out until at least the All-Star break.

Green added that the new signings appear to have a high basketball IQ.

"A lot more teaching. For us guys who have been here for a while, it's a little difficult some of these practices ... You can teach some things about basketball, but you can't really teach IQ. You can teach people what to do -- however, this seems to be a pretty smart team. There's not really any idiots. Some teams you've got some idiots. It's not really any idiots [here], so that's good. Everybody seems to be able to think a little bit, so that's great."

Warriors Didn't Acquire D'Angelo Russell With Intent To Trade Him

Oct 3, 2019 11:00 AM

When the Golden State Warriors acquired D'Angelo Russell via a four-year, $117 million sign-and-trade, many went on record expecting him to eventually be traded for a player that fits better with their existing roster.

"There’s a strong possibility that the Warriors actually want their newest big acquisition for seasons beyond this one," writes Ethan Strauss on The Athletic. "Their front-office leaders, Joe Lacob and Bob Myers both, are as smitten with him as any team that just selected a top-5 player in the draft."

Strauss also writes that the Warriors have consistently signaled they didn't acquire Russell to merely trade him at a later date.

"After doing a little digging, I’ve come to buy the Warriors front office on this one," writes Strauss. "I believe that the Warriors’ public messaging actually matches their private beliefs."
