Steve Kerr gave his thoughts on the events leading up to Anthony Davis getting traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, saying that a player demanding a trade with multiple years left on their contract was a topic the league would have to address.
"I'm talking more about the Anthony Davis situation. Where a guy is perfectly healthy and has a couple years left on his deal and says, 'I want to leave.' That's a real problem that the league has to address and that the players have to be careful with," said Kerr on The Warriors Inside Podcast.
Kerr added that he hoped Davis' situation was a one-off and not a league-wide trend.
"If you come to an agreement with the team that, 'Hey, it's probably best for us to part ways,' that's one thing. But the Davis stuff was really kind of groundbreaking -- and hopefully not a trend, because it's bad for the league."
The Golden State Warriors signed Ky Bowman to a two-way contract, league sources told Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Bowman went undrafted out of Boston College.
Bowman averaged 2.3 points in four Summer League games.
Bob Myers refuted speculation that the Golden State Warriors acquired D'Angelo Russell with the intention to eventually trade him.
The Warriors didn't want to lose Kevin Durant without getting an asset in return, so they used a sign-and-trade to get Russell despite his less than perfect fit. Russell signed a four-year, $117 million contract.
"I know it's been written and speculated. That's fine," Myers said Monday. "That's what everybody's job is to do. We didn't sign him with the intention of just trading him. We haven't even seen him play in our uniform yet, and a lot of people have us already trading him. That's not how we're viewing it. Let's just see what we have. Let's see what he is. Let's see how he fits.
"Part of our job in the front office and the coaching staff and the organization is, 'How does it all work?' ... So much of our sport at least, and maybe other sports, is, 'What are you doing next?' We got to figure out what we're doing now."
Myers added: "We're just happy that we got a young player that has a lot of upside, in our opinion, and we're excited at the possibility of him in our uniform."
The Golden State Warriors signed Alen Smailagic to a four-year deal worth $6.13 million, league sources told Mike Scotto of The Athletic.
Smailagic was the 39th pick in the 2019 NBA Draft.
Only the first two seasons of the deal are guaranteed.
The Warriors traded two future second-round picks to the Pelicans to draft Smailagic.
Stephen Curry is ready for a new challenge as the Golden State Warriors will enter the 19-20 season without Kevin Durant, Andre Iguodala and Shaun Livingston. The Warriors will also be without Klay Thompson for at least half of the season.
"I mean, the three years that we had were special," Curry said. "With KD, we had three straight Finals appearances. We won two of them, and we accomplished a lot as a group.
"Everybody talks about the amount of talent that we had on that team, but that doesn't guarantee that you can figure it out on the court, that you can put all the pieces together to be successful."
The Warriors will work to incorporate D'Angelo Russell into the backcourt with Curry.
"The chemistry will develop quickly. We'll be really purposeful about that and trying to set the tone for how we're going to play this year," Curry said. "It's about encouraging each other and having confidence that we'll bring the best out of each other. Then when Klay gets back [from a torn ACL] as well, add him to the backcourt mix. It's going to be fun.
"I'm excited, to be honest with you. Five straight years in the Finals and we've accomplished a lot, and three championships. There's a lot to be proud of. But everybody wants a new challenge in terms of how do you get back to that level."
Ron Adams has turned down an assistant coaching job with the Los Angeles Lakers and will remain with the Golden State Warriors.
Adams has been a key assistant coach for the Warriors.
Adams will have a revised with the Warriors in which he will travel with less frequency and will prioritize player development.
Kevin Durant initially objected to the sign-and-trade scenario involving D'Angelo Russell going to the Golden State Warriors.
The Brooklyn Nets had enough cap space to sign Durant outright and there was no specific advantage for him to help the Warriors.
Multiple sources told Brian Windhorst that Durant didn't want to be traded for Russell straight up because he didn't think it was a fair deal. The Warriors had to convince Durant of the trade on top of the Nets.
The Warriors had to give up a first round pick for Durant to sign off on the deal, though it is top-20 protected next year.
Willie Cauley-Stein has agreed to a two-year, $4.4 million deal with the Golden State Warriors.
Cauley-Stein will have a player option in the second season of the deal.
Cauley-Stein previously agreed to sign with the Warriors but it was unclear what type of contract he would sign due to their hard cap situation.
