Klay Thompson Has 'No Hard Feelings' For Kevin Durant Leaving Warriors

Sep 23, 2019 11:45 AM

Klay Thompson had a measured response when asked to share his thoughts on Kevin Durant leaving the Golden State Warriors this offseason to join the Brooklyn Nets.

"It was no hard feelings, man, I know Kevin," said Thompson. "It sucks because we go from the most dominant team ever to — a really good team, but that’s still a big drop-off, you know. I just enjoyed playing with him, man. It’s fun to play with him every day. He’s such a hard worker and he’s fun to watch. He really is just a great basketball player. I’ll miss that.

"He cares. That’s what makes him so good. He’s passionate about what he does — just because he’s so gifted and people see how naturally gifted he is, they don’t realize how much he cares and how much work he puts in. I saw him work so hard every day. You don’t do that if you don’t have a passion and care for what you do."

The Warriors may have lost Durant, but Thompson believes the Warriors are being incorrectly written off.

"That’s fine," said Thompson about those who doubt the Warriors. "That’s sports. I don’t just think we’re going to be nice this year. I think we’ve got a five-year window. We’re still so young, man. People get lost thinking, 'Oh, they’re 30 now.' I feel younger than ever."

Bucks Not Concerned By Warriors' Possible Pursuit Of Giannis Antetokounmpo

Sep 19, 2019 8:39 PM

The Golden State Warriors have been linked with a pursuit of Giannis Antetokounmpo, but that is not something the Milwaukee Bucks are concerned about at this time.

“Keeping Giannis, it’s a focus obviously,” one Bucks front-office source told “But fighting the Warriors is not a focus. The Warriors are not the concern in the least. They’d have a long way to go to get him to Golden State, they’d have to give away a lot. He has never given any indication that he wants to leave Milwaukee. So a lot of that stuff, it is more chatter than anything.”

The Bucks plan on offering Antetokounmpo a supermax contract next offseason.

Antetokounmpo can't become a free agent until 2021 and the Warriors would have to trade Klay Thompson and one of either Draymond Green or D'Angelo Russell to create enough cap space to sign him.

Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving Could Have Lost Combined $16M Without D'Angelo Russell S&T

Sep 19, 2019 11:25 AM

Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving could have possibly lost a combined $16 million had the Golden State Warriors not approached the Brooklyn Nets for a D'Angelo Russell sign-and-trade.

When Durant and Irving committed to the Nets, they were set to have approximately $10 million combined in unlikely bonuses as they don't count against the cap.

Because cap space was not required to sign Durant due to the sign-and-trade with the Warriors, the Nets merely needed to structure $1 million in unlikely bonuses for Irving in order to still sign DeAndre Jordan and Nicolas Claxton.

The $1 million in unlikely incentives for Irving is broken into eight $125,000 bonuses, ranging from games played, statistical benchmarks and offensive/defensive rating.

Durant has a $1 million bonus this season based on the Nets reaching the first round of the playoffs or winning at least 43 games.

Shelburne: Warriors Have Always Been Big Threat To Pursue Giannis Antetokounmpo

Sep 18, 2019 12:15 PM

The Milwaukee Bucks plan on offering Giannis Antetokounmpo a supermax contract next offseason. Antetokounmpo could become a free agent in 2021 if he doesn't sign the supermax.

"The Warriors have always been a big threat to go after Giannis," said Ramona Shelburne on The Jump. "One, he's friends with Steph Curry. He has that same agency. It would be a difficult construction to make happen, but that is that one looming threat. And it comes down to what kind of guy is Giannis. What does he want his legacy to be? Is he the guy that stays with one team his entire career and tries to bring a championship Milwaukee, or does he pull a Kevin Durant and go join a group of super friends?"

The Warriors would almost certainly need to make a trade to acquire Antetokounmpo as they don't project to have max cap space in 2021.

Stephen Curry plans on playing in the 2020 Olympics for the United States. Curry has never played in the Olympics previously.

"That is the plan, for sure," Curry said in an interview with ESPN's Rachel Nichols. "You know, obviously knock on wood, you don't want any injuries or things like that to interfere."

Curry twice played for the United States in the World Cup.

"Definitely wanna go," Curry said. "I've never been on the Olympic team. I've been on two World Cup championship gold-medal teams. But the Olympics is the experience that I want. And next year will hopefully be it."
