Eight Non-Bubble Teams Interested In Playing Games At Secondary Site

Jun 27, 2020 1:25 PM

The NBA and NBPA are holding discussions about a possible second site for the eight teams not participating in the Orlando restart. The Charlotte Hornets, Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks, Atlanta Hawks, Minnesota Timberwolves, Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors face a scenario where they will go nearly six months without playing a competitive game.

Sources tell Sam Amick of The Athletic that there is significant support from most of those eight teams about the concept.

Those eight teams could even play televised games.

The Cavaliers, Pistons and Hawks have been the most vocal among the group in support of the idea. The Knicks have expressed reservations, at least in part because they have a roster with several pending free agents.

One of those teams could serve as host, or they could also play in a city such as Las Vegas or Houston.

Klay Thompson Fully Cleared From Torn ACL

Jun 19, 2020 7:33 PM

Klay Thompson has received his final medical clearance a few weeks ago as he recovers from a torn ACL suffered in Game 6 of The Finals in 2019.

Thompson has been ramping up his workouts since receiving the full clearance.

Thompson hasn’t been back at the San Francisco Warriors’ recently reopened San Francisco practice facility. He’s spent much of this extended quarantined hiatus down in the Los Angeles area and part of it in Oakland, working out privately in both places

Steve Kerr Says Warriors 'Definitely Need' To Get Together For Offseason Minicamps

Jun 10, 2020 1:10 AM

Steve Kerr echoed reports that the eight teams not invited to Orlando want to put on some form of their own minicamps, saying that he wants his team to be back together.

"The league has been great about working with us on potential minicamps. We definitely need to get our team together for a period of time. I don't know for how long, but we definitely need to be together and have some practice sessions. ... we get them on the court, almost like an OTA for an NFL team where we can install some things for next year, think about what we want to accomplish and get some practice sessions in. I think it would bridge the gap towards a more normal offseason and then lead us into next season in a healthier frame of mind," said Kerr.

Kerr said that he favored minicamps over a condensed summer league featuring the eight teams.

Kerr added that Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green will all be expected to participate in the minicamps.

"I would not consider this voluntary workouts. Obviously, these are really unique circumstances, but given that we would be staring at a nine-month break, to be perfectly honest, I would be shocked if any one of those three guys said to me, 'No, I don't want the work.' They all know they need the work. And we all need the work, so they'll be there."

Warriors Unlikely To Let Cap Decrease Change Roster-Building Plans

Jun 8, 2020 12:39 PM

The salary cap could decrease by anywhere between $4 million and $15 million for the 20-21 season from its original projection of $115 million.

According to a league source, the Warriors are unlikely to let the cap decrease alter its plans for roster-building.

Joe Lacob realizes that the Warriors have a limited title window with Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green all in their early 30s.

The Warriors have a $17.2 million traded player exception they can use along with a top lottery pick this year and Minnesota's first round pick in 2021.

Warriors Likely To Take Anthony Edwards If They Get First Pick

Jun 7, 2020 12:52 PM

The Golden State Warriors are likely to take Anthony Edwards if they get the first pick in the 2020 NBA Draft and do not trade it, according to Connor Letourneau of the San Francisco Chronicle.

The Warriors have other players on the board, including Tyrese Haliburton, Isaac Okoro, and Deni Avdija, should they land between picks No. 2 through No. 5.

"Sources have indicated to The Chronicle that if the Warriors land the No. 1 pick and decide not to trade down, they’ll likely take Georgia guard Anthony Edwards. If Golden State lands anywhere between Nos. 2 and No. 5, it’ll strongly consider Iowa State’s Tyrese Haliburton, Auburn’s Isaac Okoro and Israel’s Deni Avdija, among others," writes Letourneau.

The team reportedly has Haliburton rated above LaMelo Ball and Killian Hayes due to his positional versatility.

Warriors Have Tyrese Haliburton Above LaMelo Ball, Killian Hayes On Draft Board

Jun 3, 2020 12:39 PM

The Golden State Warriors are believed to prefer Tyrese Haliburton over LaMelo Ball and Killian Hayes.

The Warriors see Haliburton as a fit due to his elite passing and his ability on defense to defend multiple positions.

"I’ve been told that he has emerged as the No. 1 point guard on the Warriors’ board — yes, above LaMelo Ball and Killian Hayes," writes Connor Letourneau. "If Golden State lands anywhere between No. 2 and No. 5, it will seriously consider Haliburton."

Haliburton could play beside Stephen Curry and also become the primary ball-handler for the second unit.

Ron Adams Hopes To Remain With Warriors Next Season

Jun 2, 2020 12:11 PM

Ron Adams would like to return to the Golden State Warriors next season. Adams signed a one-year contract last offseason in which he stepped away from coaching on the bench and took on more player development responsibilities. Jarron Collins assumed more of the in-game defensive leadership.

“It was fairly difficult in some ways," said Adams. I think when you’re used to being in the fight and you’re not in the fight, that adjustment is a hard one. But having said that, I enjoyed the year. We have a lot of young coaches. I try to plug in and help them. And especially plug into what Jarron’s doing defensively and try to help him. Change is difficult, especially when you’ve done the same thing for a number of years, as I have. But it was probably necessary. We have a lot of good young coaches; they need to develop. And hopefully, I can be a part of that process. But yes, not being in the fight was difficult.”

Adams was asked if he would like to return to the Warriors in 20-21.

“I would like to come back, yeah,” Adams said. “I have no reason not to. I want to be involved.”
