McGrady, Wells Miss Practice With Flu-Like Symptoms

Jan 29, 2008 8:52 AM

It appears as though something is traveling around the Houston Rockets' locker room. Just one day after Yao Ming sat out a game because of an upper respiratory infection, Tracy McGrady and Bonzi Wells missed practice with similar symptoms, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Yao returned to practice on Monday, but the status of both McGrady and Wells for Tuesday's game against the Golden State Warriors remains in question.

"There's something going around," Rockets' coach Rick Adelman told the Chronicle. "I have no idea (of either players' availability today). I really don't."

McGrady May Take Pass On All-Star Game

Jan 22, 2008 3:34 AM

Tracy McGrady believes that his sore knee may keep him out of this year's All-Star game, the Houston Chronicle is reporting.  Voting ended on Sunday and the starters will be announced on Thursday, with McGrady ranked second amongst West forwards at the last announcement of the vote leaders.

"Right now, I think I might have to pass on that," McGrady said. "I'll attend, but I don't think I can play."

McGrady said he has not spoken with anyone from the NBA about not playing in the All-Star Game on Feb. 17 in New Orleans.

"Not yet," he said. "Let me give it until the end of the month or the next couple weeks."

McGrady Wants To Give Up All-Star Spot

Jan 22, 2008 1:00 AM

Rockets forward Tracy McGrady, who has been injured most of the season and is currently the second leading vote getter at the forward spot in the West, says he wants to give his place in the All-Star game to someone more deserving.

However, this is not something that the NBA allows.

"Any time you are chosen to become an All-Star, especially having had the season I've had, there's other guys definitely having better seasons than me," McGrady said. "If it was my choice, I would select another guy to participate in my spot because I see other guards that are having outstanding seasons."

T-Mac: 'Good Chance' Of Playing Vs. Spurs

Jan 18, 2008 5:10 PM

Apparently, Tracy McGrady can change directions after all.

A day after he could not finish practice and said he was unlikely to play Saturday against the San Antonio Spurs, he went through all of Friday's practice without problems and said after that he is 75 percent certain he would play.

"I'm better, better," McGrady said. "I was able to get through practice. There was a little bit of pain. Mentally, I was better than yesterday. It's coming along.

"I got to see how I feel tomorrow, come in for shootaround. If I feel good, I'll play tomorrow. There's a chance. There's a good chance I could play tomorrow."

McGrady Can't Finish Practice, Doubts Sat. Return

Jan 18, 2008 3:47 AM

Unable to finish his first full practice since his knee injuries, Tracy McGrady left Toyota Center on Thursday doubting that he would be ready for his first game back by Saturday.

McGrady had targeted Saturday?s game against the Spurs for his return after missing the past 11 games. That changed Thursday.

?It?s unlikely, not even a game-time decision,? McGrady said. ?As of now, I?m not playing."

?In practice today, I really didn?t look too good. I?m definitely upgraded from where I was, but I?m not ready to play right now. My whole game is based on explosion and cutting. I won?t do my team any justice being out there and not being able to do the things I am able to do.?

McGrady Eyes Saturday Return

Jan 17, 2008 4:24 AM

Rockets' guard Tracy McGrady will return to practice today and hopes to play Saturday against the Spurs. But he said he expects to have to work his way back into shape.

"I'm cleared to practice, but I still don't know how everything is going to be after I practice or even during practice," McGrady said. "I'm hoping for us to get up and down to see if I'm able to do the cuts and do normal things on a basketball court that I do."

"If I'm physically OK, I'll definitely be excited being back on the basketball court competing with my teammates. There's a couple days I have to practice and hopefully get some running in. I haven't played in a month. It's not like I'm going to go out and be Superman and put up incredible numbers and have a phenomenal game."

"I don't want to go out there and hurt my team, because we were playing extremely well since I've been out. I'm going to be real cautious about this."
