Mike D'Antoni Cites Lack Of Depth As Problem For Rockets

Nov 29, 2018 9:28 AM

The Houston Rockets have struggled this season and Mike D'Antoni blames some of their issues on a lack of roster depth.

"Obviously, it's a problem," D'Antoni said. "It's something that I know that the front office tried to address. They're going to do the best they can. No blame going around; it's just the way it is."

The Rockets played without Chris Paul (hamstring) and key reserve wing Gerald Green (ankle) in Wednesday's loss. In their loss to the Mavericks, Houston was outscored 65-25 in bench scoring.

D'Antoni expects both Paul and Green to be back for Friday's game.

"Then our depth is pretty good," D'Antoni said. "We've got everybody a couple of rungs up. We've got rookies playing as the sixth or seventh man. They should be ninth, 10th men. They would be OK every once in a while, but when you rely on them, it's tough. And it's not their fault. They're going to develop. Again, we're just going to have to knock on wood and make sure they stay healthy."

Brandon Kight Could Return In December

Nov 20, 2018 10:23 AM

The Houston Rockets have remained cautious with Brandon Knight.

Knight underwent knee surgery in September and has begun taking shots and going through layup drills before the start of games.

Knight could return in December and help reduce the minutes of Chris Paul and James Harden.

Rockets Part Ways With Carmelo Anthony

Nov 15, 2018 6:56 PM

The Houston Rockets have announced they have parted ways with Carmelo Anthony.

While Anthony won't be waived at this time, the Rockets will continue working on a resolution.

Anthony was signed by the Rockets to the veteran's minimum this offseason.

“After much internal discussion, the Rockets will be parting ways with Carmelo Anthony and we are working toward a resolution,” said Daryl Morey. “Carmelo had a tremendous approach during his time with the Rockets and accepted every role head coach Mike D’Antoni gave him. The fit we envisioned when Carmelo chose to sign with the Rockets has not materialized, therefore we thought it was best to move on as any other outcome would have been unfair to him.”

Chris Paul: We Didn't Win, We Can't Have A Hangover

Nov 15, 2018 9:20 AM

The Houston Rockets have begun the season slowly after taking the Golden State Warriors to seven games in the Western Conference Finals.

Some around the Rockets have suggested the team is suffering from a sort of hangover.

"We didn't win, so we can't have a hangover," said Chris Paul.

"Honestly, it's been kind of hard to get back into our rhythm," Clint Capela said. "First of all, when everybody was healthy, it was hard to get our rhythm back. Then we had a suspension that didn't help, some injuries that didn't help. It took us a lot of time to figure it out. We just have to get back to that grind and enjoy it."

Some rival scouts have suggested Paul looks a bit older.

"He seems a little step slow," one scout said.

Paul has even admitted he hasn't been playing as well.

"That's a lot to do with it," Paul said. "I look at myself first in this situation. I know I've got to play better, and that'll help us play better."

Blazers, Pelicans, Lakers, Heat, 76ers Could Have Interest In Carmelo Anthony

Nov 14, 2018 11:19 AM

Carmelo Anthony is expected to leave the Houston Rockets and a number of teams have emerged as potential destinations should he either be traded, waived and claimed, or signed as a free agent.

“I heard three teams I think it can be for Melo, and this could change—I mean, he’s still with Houston—New Orleans, Portland and the L.A. Lakers. Those are the three teams I heard,” said Kevin O'Connor.

Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated previously reported that the Lakers "are done" making any free agent signings in the short-term. Spears reported that the Miami Heat and Philadelphia 76ers could also be interested in Anthony.

Carmelo Anthony's Camp Evaluating Possible Landing Spots

Nov 12, 2018 6:35 PM

Agents for Carmelo Anthony are gathering information about teams that would potentially be interested in signing him should he leave the Houston Rockets.

There has been a level of surprise to how quickly the situation between Anthony and the Rockets has fallen apart.

Anthony will remain away from the Rockets for the third straight game on Tuesday.

Mike D'Antoni plans to move rookie Gary Clark into a more prominent role in the rotation, which would usurp Anthony's minutes. Anthony has remained eager to play and try to contribute to the Rockets.

Anthony could have his veteran's minimum $2.4 million contract claimed on waivers, or he could clear waivers and become a free agent.

Rockets Expected To Waive Carmelo Anthony

Nov 12, 2018 8:02 AM

Players and coaches of the Houston Rockets believe Carmelo Anthony has already played his final game for the team.

The Rockets could place Anthony on waivers as soon as Monday.

Over the weekend, it was reported the Rockets and Anthony were holding discussions over his role. Those talks came after Anthony's 1-for-11 performance against the Thunder.

The Rockets signed Anthony to a one-year deal for the veterans minimum of $2.4 million after he received a buyout from the Atlanta Hawks.

Anthony's spot on the roster is likely to be filled by signing undrafted rookie Gary Clark, currently on a two-way contract.

James Harden declined comment on Anthony's situation.

"Melo's been great here," Chris Paul said. "That's like a brother to me, know what I mean? I don't know what's being said or whatnot, but Melo's been great, working hard every day. So we'll see what happens."

Nov 11, 2018 9:07 AM

Carmelo Anthony and the Houston Rockets are holding discussions over his role and how he might be able to remain with the team for the remainder of the season.

Sources said talks are ongoing.

Anthony missed Saturday's game due to an illness.

Mike D'Antoni referred all questions about Anthony to general manager Daryl Morey.

"Yeah, that's ... I'm sure you can address that with Daryl. I'm trying to win a game," D'Antoni said, adding: "You need to talk to Daryl. On that one, I have no answer for you right now."

Anthony signed a one-year, $2.4 million deal with the Rockets before the season.
