James Harden On OKC Trade: How Do You Give That Up?

Apr 12, 2018 5:52 PM

More than five years after James Harden was traded by the Thunder to the Rockets, he admits it is something he continues to think about on a daily basis.

Harden and the Thunder were a few million dollars apart on extension talks, which led to the abrupt trade in October of 2012 just months after reaching The Finals.

"It was the perfect puzzle," said Harden. "How do you give that up? How do you let that go?"

Harden became one of the best players in the NBA with the Rockets, but the 15-16 season was a disappointment.

"Nothing went well. Like, nothing. I just knew it was gonna be a disaster," Harden says now about that lost season. "We never got a rhythm, we never got a chemistry. That was the first time I felt like I couldn't control it. And you can tell. I couldn't figure out what was going on. Was it me? I mean, when anything goes bad or is not looking good, I go, 'Okay, what the hell am I doing wrong?' And then I figure out how to get myself straight."

Chris Paul 'Loves' Houston, Hasn't Begun Thinking About Free Agency

Apr 11, 2018 4:18 PM

Chris Paul will be a free agent this offseason and has not begun to think about his impending decision.

Paul orchestrated a trade form the Clippers to the Rockets last offseason.

Paul said he does not think about what could come next.

“Not at all,” Paul said. “Not one time. Not once. I just always worry about right now.”

Paul pointed out that he will be making a life decision as a 33 year old with a family that lives where he plays.

“That’s what happened when the trade happened,” Paul said. “I love it here. I love it here.”

Paul will be eligible for a five-year, $205 million contract this offseason with the Rockets.

LeBron James Cites Family, Winning As Two Biggest Factors In 2018 Decision

Apr 9, 2018 10:35 AM

LeBron James isn't thinking ahead towards free agency as the regular season winds down.

"I don't think like that," James said. "I'm too much of a guy that's stuck in the moment. I don't do too much of that."

James said his family will be the determining factor with whether he re-signs with the Cavaliers.

"My family. That's all that matters," James told cleveland.com. "I want to continue to win at the highest level, because I know I can still do it as an individual, and then my family. My family is what's most important to me, more than anything."

James and his wife, Savannah, are both from Akron. James also has two homes in the Los Angeles area.

"That's just a small piece of it," James said, when asked if the decision comes down to where his family wants to live. "We make joint decisions all together, all the time. Once we get to it, my agent and my team we will all tackle it the right way but my family plays a big part in it. And winning."

James has previously been a free agent in 2010, 2014, 2015 and 2016.

This offseason, James is widely expected to choose between the Cavaliers, Lakers, 76ers and Rockets.

Russell Westbrook Declines To Endorse James Harden For MVP

Apr 7, 2018 4:16 PM

Russell Westbrook declined to endorse former teammate James Harden for MVP.

Westbrook beat out Harden to win MVP last season.

"I'm not sure," Westbrook said when asked if it was Harden's turn to win MVP. "Obviously he's having a good year, a great year. Their team has the best record in the NBA. I'm not sure."

Harden is the leading candidate for the award with LeBron James his most probable challenger.

"Nah, I don't have a pick," Westbrook said. "There's a lot of guys doing a lot of great things in the league. Honestly, I don't know kind of what you go off of, because MVP's kind of been picked differently every year. So it depends what criteria, what it is that you guys vote for. But obviously he's leading the charge at the moment."

Kevin Durant recently talked about how it was Harden's turn to win MVP.

"It's his turn. Just give it to him," said Durant of Harden. "It's his time to win it. They're playing on another level — 60-point triple-double, first seed in the West, in the league, playing great ball. It's his time."

Kevin Durant: I Don't Think We Would've All Been MVPs In OKC

Apr 3, 2018 9:42 AM

With James Harden likely to win MVP this season, the Oklahoma City Thunder will have had three future MVPs on their team that reached the 2012 Finals.

"It's his turn. Just give it to him," said Durant of Harden. "It's his time to win it. They're playing on another level — 60-point triple-double, first seed in the West, in the league, playing great ball. It's his time."

Durant won MVP in 2014 while Russell Westbrook won in 2017.

Oklahoma City broke up that trio by trading Harden to the Rockets in 2012. It is difficult to foresee how that trio would have developed if they were kept together.

"I don't think we would've all been MVPs, obviously," said Durant. "The game of basketball, you can't. James is the MVP because he has the ball in his hands most of the time and can create for everyone else.

"He was doing that for OKC, but he was doing it maybe a quarter and a half of the game, I may have been doing it half of a quarter, Russ may do it for two quarters. So you can't really see the full repertoire when you got so many guys on your team that are good.

"But I think it speaks volumes that you could still see the greatness of James, Russ, myself when we were playing together. It showed that we were selfless basketball players and we wanted each other to play well.

"If you see the skill when you got so many good players on your team, you can foreshadow, oh, this guy could be really good down the line.

"You saw that with James. You saw he had 40 off the bench against Phoenix. He was Sixth Man of the Year. Had 40 off the bench against Phoenix, not easy, shooting like 17 shots.

"You seen Russ get a 49-point triple-double with me and James on the floor. You seen me get a 50-point game when I was on the floor with those two.

"There were times when it was just like: “Go ahead.” There were times when me and Russ were like, 'It's your show, James, go ahead and run it.' Same with me and Russ. It was, “Hey, Russ, run the team.” Or, “Hey, KD, go score for us at the end of the game.”

"That's an underrated part. You hear a lot about all of us, personality-wise, but you don't hear much about how we cared for each other, wanted each other to do well."
