Pacers-Suns Game Could Make Sibling History

Mar 30, 2013 3:18 PM

A seemingly meaningless Saturday night game between the Indiana Pacers and Phoenix Suns could make NBA history in a unique way.

The Suns feature the Morris brothers -- Marcus and Markieff -- while the Pacers have Tyler and Ben Hansbrough.

Ben Hansbrough doesn't always get off the bench, but if he does, it would be the first game in NBA history to feature two pairs of brothers.

This is the first season since the NBA was still the BAA back in 1946 that the league has fielded more than one team with a pair of siblings on their rosters.

When the Suns acquired Marcus Morris from the Houston Rockets in February, the Morris twins became just the 10th pair of brothers on the same team. The Hansbroughs were the ninth when Ben made the Pacers out of training camp.

One Win From .500, Mavericks Invite Barber To Pacers Game

Mar 27, 2013 5:02 PM

The Dallas Mavericks, who haven't shaved in weeks as they climb back to .500, are a win away from reaching the mark.

Seven players were part of the pact -- O.J. Mayo, Dirk Nowitzki, Vince Carter, Chris Kaman, Elton Brand, Jae Crowder and Dahntay Jones. Jones has since shaved because he was traded to the Atlanta Hawks last month.

The pact was made when they were seven games under .500. They're 35-36 after winning nine of their last 12 games.

Mayo's barber, Omar, has been invited to Thursday night's home game against the Indiana Pacers.

"Man, everyone is going to have their clippers in their locker Thursday and hopefully you guys can watch us shave them off," Mayo said. "The barber will be here. We're going to leave him tickets and give ourselves a chance to shave them off.

"I want to make sure to do it right. I don't want to leave no patches."

Paul George Playing Through Sprained Ligament In Finger

Mar 24, 2013 2:57 PM

Paul George has taped together his left pinkie and ring finger over the past few games because of a sprained ligament in the pinkie.

George believes he sprained the ligament in his left pinkie three or four games ago.

“I can barely put pressure on it,” George said Saturday with his hand wrapped in ice. “The first half, I couldn’t really dribble to my left. The ball was going all over the place. I couldn’t get control of it. Once the game gets going I allow myself to just play.”

Despite the injury, George has scored 43 points over the Indiana Pacers' past two games.

George Hill Blasts Lack Of Support From Indiana Fans

Mar 16, 2013 7:03 PM

After suffering a disappointing loss to the Lakers on Friday, George Hill ripped the fact Bankers Life Fieldhouse was mostly filled with Los Angeles fans.

In Hill's mind, the Indiana Pacers have done enough to regain support from the fan base, but the guard was frustrated about the lack of support the team received not just Friday, but throughout this season.

“It sucks," Hill said. "It was 70 (Lakers fans) – 30 (Pacers fans) out there. These are the same people that wants autographs after the game. We’re out there in the community. We’re doing our job, doing what we’re supposed to do on and off the court. Something has to change. I tip my hat to this team. We’ve been trouble free. Been out in the community shaking hands, we’re winning. It shouldn’t feel like an away game, especially with an important like this. Tonight, that’s what it felt like.

“(We’re) not a team that’s in the bottom in the East. We’re one of the top three teams in the East. We’re winning the Central Division and it should show. Right now it’s not and it’s been all season long where it’s not showing and I don’t think there’s nothing else we can do as an organization and as players. Now it’s up to the community.”

Shaw Turned Down Offer To Coach Bobcats, Still Waiting For Right Opportunity

Mar 15, 2013 11:26 AM

Brian Shaw turned down an offer to coach the Charlotte Bobcats, who currently hold the NBA’s worst record.

"I want to be in a situation where I have a chance," Shaw said. "Usually when you come into your first head coaching job, you don't get to dictate what the situation is going to be. But you want a chance and an organization that has a game plan going forward that's sustainable and where you have some pieces of value where you can put things together and get on the fast track."

Shaw also interviewed for vacant head coaching positions during the offseason with the Portland Trail Blazers and Orlando Magic.

"I'm perceived as just a triangle guy," Shaw said. "I have conversations with Phil [Jackson] and I said, 'I thought working for you and playing for you would be my biggest asset going into interviews. Actually it's been my biggest liability.'

"We've laughed about it. He's said to me on more than one occasion, 'It's best for you to distance yourself from me and our system.' "

Shaw has spent the past two seasons as the Indiana Pacers' associate coach, partly serving as a mentor for head coach Frank Vogel.

"When he gets an opportunity," Vogel said, "he's going to be a coach of the year candidate every single year."
