The Indiana Pacers have a bit of a logjam with wings and it looks like Jeremy Lamb will be the odd man out. The Pacers will reportedly look to trade Lamb once he proves he is fully healthy from a torn ACL suffered in 2020. Lamb averaged 10.1 points per game in the 36 games he played after returning from the injury in late-January.
The Los Angeles Lakers and one of Lamb's former team, the Charlotte Hornets, have both expressed interest. The challenge for the Lakers will come in matching salary in a trade for Lamb and his $10.5 million salary.
Indiana hasn't made many changes to their roster this offseason. They lost forward Doug McDermott and added wings in veteran Torrey Craig and rookie Chris Duarte. The addition of Craig and Duarte leaves the Pacers with an abundance of wing options. They join starters Caris LeVert and TJ Warren, and backups Justin Holiday and Edmond Sumner. That has Lamb available on the trade market.
The Indiana Pacers have agreed to sign DeJon Jarreau to a Two-Way contract for the 2021-22 season. Indiana will need to clear a spot for Jarreau as they already have Amida Brimah and Duane Washington Jr. signed to their two Two-Way spots.
Jarreau went undrafted out of Houston as an Early Entry candidate at the 2021 NBA Draft. As a senior for the Cougars, Jarreau averaged 10.6 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4.3 assists. Jarreau spent his final three college seasons at Houston after transferring there from Massachusetts.
The 6'5'' point guard played for the Miami Heat during 2021 Summer League in Las Vegas. Jarreau started four of the five games he played for Miami and averaged 11.6 points, 6.6 rebounds and 5.8 assists.
The Indiana Pacers have rescinded their qualifying offer to Cassius Stanley making him an unrestricted free agent.
The Pacers have extended a training camp invite to Stanley.
Stanley was on a Two-Way contract with the Pacers last season.
The NBA has postponed the Indiana Pacers vs Washington Wizards game at Las Vegas NBA Summer League. It was scheduled for Sunday, August 8 and was the opener between the two teams.
The game was postponed due to contract tracing for COVID-19 leaving the Wizards with fewer than the minimum-required players.
Doug McDermott was rumored to be signing with the San Antonio Spurs shortly after free agency opened. This transaction came to fruition, but in a mutually beneficial way for both the Spurs and McDermott's former team, the Indiana Pacers.
Indiana sent San Antonio a future second round pick and the rights to swap second round picks in another draft for the right to make it a sign-and-trade transaction. The Spurs still get their player, while the Pacers create a Traded Player Exception of approximately $7.4 million. And, of course, McDermott gets the full value of the contract he agreed to with San Antonio.
Turning free agent losses into sign-and-trades has become a more-common transaction in recent years. Last offseason, the Boston Celtics were able to send the Charlotte Hornets two future second round picks to turn the Gordon Hayward signing into a sign-and-trade. That transaction allowed Boston to create the largest Traded Played Exception in NBA history at $28.5 million. The Celtics used that TPE to acquire Evan Fournier at last season's trade deadline, and then the remainder to acquire Josh Richardson this offseason.
Keifer Sykes has agreed to a deal with the Indiana Pacers on an Exhibit 10 contract.
Sykes went undrafted out of Green Bay in 2015 and has bounced around playing overseas. Sykes, a 6'0 point guard, played last season with the South East Melbourne Phoenix of the NBL.
Sykes hit the game-winner in The Basketball Tournament on Tuesday.
Doug McDermott and the San Antonio Spurs have agreed to a three-year, $42 million contract.
McDermott is coming off a three-year, $22 million deal he signed with the Indiana Pacers in 2018.
McDermott averaged 13.6 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.3 assists while shooting 38.8 percent on three-pointers last season. McDermott is a career 40.7 percent three-point shooter.
Torrey Craig has agreed to a two-year, $10 million deal with the Indiana Pacers.
Craig was a key rotation player for the Phoenix Suns as they advanced to The Finals.
The Indiana Pacers have agreed to a four-year, $35 million deal with TJ McConnell.
McConnell averaged 8.6 points, 3.7 rebounds and 6.6 assists per game last season with the Pacers.
