The Cleveland Cavaliers may have traded Ricky Rubio to the Indiana Pacers at the trade deadline, but they still want to see him Cleveland next year. The Cavs hope to sign Rubio in free agency this summer. One source even called Rubio returning to Cleveland "highly likely".

Because the Indiana Pacers did not waive Rubio after acquiring him at the deadline, he'll be eligible to re-sign with Cleveland. If a team trades for and then waives a player, that player can't re-sign with the original team for one year. In this case, Rubio's contract will expire, and he'll be a free agent eligible to sign with the Cavs.

Cleveland traded Rubio as an expiring contract to get Caris LeVert. The Cavaliers also sent the Pacers a lottery-protected first round pick in the trade.

The Dallas Mavericks tried to trade up in the 2020 NBA draft in order to select Tyrese Haliburton, sources tell Tim MacMahon of ESPN.

Dallas offered Jalen Brunson and the 18th and 31st picks, but couldn't find a taker before the Sacramento Kings sued the No. 12 selection on Haliburton.

Haliburton has become one of the NBA's better young guards and is now playing for former Dallas coach Rick Carlisle. 

The New York Knicks, who have been connected to Brunson, stayed put at No. 8 and selected Obi Toppin.

The Indiana Pacers may have interest in free agent point guard Jalen Brunson. Brunson played for current Pacers coach Rick Carlisle when he coached the Dallas Mavericks.

Brunson will be an unrestricted free agent this summer. In a relatively shallow free agent class, Brunson is considered one of the best players available. He's expected to have a fairly wide range of suitors, because of his ability to play both on and off the ball.

Indiana is expected to be one of only a handful of teams to have cap space this summer. The Pacers are also rumored to be considering trading Malcolm Brogdon, which could clear further room under the cap.

The Indiana Pacers have left rival teams with the impression that they're going to trade Malcolm Brogdon this offseason. Indiana started a retooling of their roster at the trade deadline by dealing away Domantas Sabonis and Caris LeVert.

In the Sabonis trade, the Pacers added guard Tyrese Haliburton and Buddy Hield from the Sacramento Kings. Haliburton is now seen as the centerpiece of Indiana's rebuild.

That status for Haliburton makes Brogdon available via trade. While talented, Brogdon has miss significant time with injuries throughout his career. Despite the availability issues, Brogdon signed a two-year, $45 million extension with the Pacers. That new deal starts with the 2023-24 season. Because of that extension, Brogdon was ineligible to be traded at the 2022 trade deadline. A trade is now seen as likely to happen this summer.

The Indiana Pacers have given numerous rival teams the impressions that they will pursue a trade of Malcolm Brogdon this offseason, sources tell Marc Stein.

Brogdon signed a two-year, $45 million extension in October, which made him ineligible for a trade. 

Brogdon became expendable for the Pacers following their deadline week trade for Tyrese Haliburton.

Rick Carlisle spoke out in response to speculation that he could transition from his role as head coach of the Indiana Pacers to the front office.

“I came here to coach," said Carlisle as he spoke of his working relationship with Kevin Pritchard and the rest of the Indiana front office.

"I just want to be completely clear on this. I don’t know what the assumptions are that people are making about this, why this would be the case."

The Indiana Pacers have signed Nate Hinton and Gabe York to two-way contracts. 

Hinton has averaged 18.1 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 37.2 minutes over 33 G League games this season with Fort Wayne.

York has averaged 21.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 2.5 steals in 37.1 minutes over 34 games with Fort Wayne. 

The Indiana Pacers are converting both of their Two-Way players, Terry Taylor and Duane Washington Jr. to standard contracts. Indiana has an open roster spot with Justin Anderson's 10-day contract coming to an end, and the Pacers will reportedly waive Keifer Sykes to create the second roster spot.

Taylor has been one of the NBA's more unique players this year. As a 6'5'' wing, Taylor has shot 62.9% from the field this season. He's averaged 9.6 points and 5.2 rebounds over 31 games with the Pacers, while rarely taking a shot outside of the paint.

Washington has also been a find for Indiana. With several players out due to injuries, Washington has become a key backup guard. He's averaged 9.6 points and hit 36.6% of his three-pointers in 46 games for the Pacers this season.
