Clippers Rule Out 10-Day Signing To Replace Gordon

Jan 27, 2011 6:40 AM

The Clippers will not sign a player to a 10-day contract despite the sizable void left behind by Eric Gordon.

"Absolutely not," vice president Neil Olshey said when asked if Los Angeles would make such a signing.

Gordon has a sprained right wrist and bone chip fracture and could be out of the lineup for four weeks. He is averaging 24 points per game.

"Willie Warren has played well for us when he's played," Olshey said. "And right now this is an opportunity for Rasual to rebuild his playing career."

Griffin Insists Elbow Isn't Issue Despite Lackluster Performance

Jan 27, 2011 6:30 AM

Blake Griffin lacked his usual energy in the Clippers' loss to the Rockets on Wednesday night, but he insisted that his left elbow isn't a cause for concern.

He had 14 points and 11 rebounds for Los Angeles.

Griffin, who landed hard on his left elbow the night before in Dallas and suffered a contusion, wore a sleeve on the elbow and seemed unusually subdued.

"I just missed a lot of shots," said Griffin, who was five for 16 from the field, "just came out and didn't have great energy and just missed shots.

"Back-to-back on the road. It definitely is a factor. But we can't use that as an excuse.… I've got to find a way to motivate myself to bring the energy to a higher level."

Carlisle Won't Explain Confrontation With Baron Davis

Jan 26, 2011 5:14 PM

Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle felt no need to explain his confrontation with Baron Davis on Tuesday night.

"I'm not going to talk about that," Carlisle said. "It was ... whatever."

Carlisle became angry with Davis after what he felt was a cheap shot on guard Jose Juan Barea.

"He basically thought I took a cheap shot on Barea," Davis told the Los Angeles Times. "Barea was flopping the whole night and he flopped on that play. So when Carlisle looked at me, 'That was a dirty play.'

"I was like, 'No it wasn't. This dude is flopping.' I guess he felt like he was protecting his player. So I told him to ... "

Davis acknowledged that he sprinkled in some colorful language. Carlisle didn't back down, appearing ready to brawl with the guard.

"He started cussing me out," Davis said. "I told him, 'Go have some lunch.' "

The Mavericks responded to Carlisle's fit of rage with a 10-0 run to close out the Clippers.

Clippers 'Guarantee' Griffin Won't Leave Via Free Agency In 2014

Jan 20, 2011 11:24 AM

Blake Griffin is not eligible to become an unrestricted free agent until the summer of 2014, but the Clippers are already talking about offering him an extension during the preceding summer.

"I can guarantee you he will only ever be a Clipper," general manager Neil Olshey said of Griffin. "If [Oklahoma City Thunder general manager] Sam Presti arrived on Kevin Durant's doorstep at midnight on July 1st with an extension, understand that Blake Griffin lives two blocks away from me in Manhattan Beach so it's going to be a much shorter commute for me."

Griffin is averaging 27.6 points, 14.4 rebounds and 4.0 assists in the new year.

"When it comes time for him to be a free agent, we won't be losing," Olshey said. "We're not losing now. We're 10 out of 14 now with our All-Star center [Chris Kaman] sitting around in a suit. The future looks pretty good. The only question will be, in two or three years with Blake, is how much more we'll be winning."

Calls Against Artest, Griffin Rescinded

Jan 18, 2011 8:45 AM

The technical fouls and late-game ejections assessed to Ron Artest and Blake Griffin in Sunday's Lakers-Clippers game have been rescinded by the NBA.

"I didn't think I did anything wrong. I would never think I did anything wrong [in that situation]," Griffin said Monday.

"I wasn't just trying to hurt anybody. I didn't push off, I just stepped in strong. I didn't run up anybody's back. So yeah, it's good to know that I wasn't fined for that and to know that all that's rescinded."

Artest also addressed the incident a day later

"I thought it was a good call," Artest said. "I'm glad it got rescinded, but it was a good call. Make sure nothing escalates. Obviously I'm going to help my teammate. The game's over, we're down nine, five seconds, that was a good ejection."

Artest and Griffin were two of four players involved in a scuffle with 5.7 seconds left in the fourth quarter along with Lamar Odom and Baron Davis.

Four Ejected Late In Clippers-Lakers Game

Jan 17, 2011 7:46 AM

With the Clippers on their way to a victory over the Lakers on Sunday, things got interesting.

Lamar Odom took exception when Blake Griffin tried to gain position for a rebound with just a few seconds left in the game, grabbing the rookie's jersey.

Baron Davis then started jawing at Odom in defense of Griffin. Before long, officials huddled up and ejected Odom, Griffin, Davis and Ron Artest from game.

Artest's only crime appeared to be trying to pull Odom away from the fray. The Clippers were up nine when the incident took place.

"Maybe I overreacted, but I just felt like if you're up nine with the free throw going through, the ram in the back at that point ..." Odom said.

"Any other time I get it — play hard and play strong, whatever. But the ram in the back, I don't get it. You're up nine. You've got it [won]. I'm not telling you you've got to stop playing hard, but if you ram me in my back, you're going to get a reaction out of me."

Lakers coach Phil Jackson said that Griffin was being overaggressive and questioned Artest's ejection.

"He was just running up guys' backs. Guys get eventually tired of it," he said.

"I don't know how they make their decisions. Whimsically, I think," Jackson added. "I can see Lamar and Griffin or whatever, but Ron ... that was ridiculous."

Artest Advised LeBron To Sign With Clippers

Jan 16, 2011 10:57 AM

Ron Artest says that he suggested to LeBron James last season that he sign with the Clippers as a free agent.

"Last year during the game, I told him he should come to L.A., to the Clippers," Artest said. "I just think it'd be cool to have that competition [between the Lakers and Clippers].

"He's a great player. He'd make anybody better. You give him five old ladies and he's going to make them better."

James would leave the Cavaliers to sign with the Heat.

"I really thought he should've went there [to the Clippers]," Artest said. "They have a great team, but I don't know if he was thinking like that."
