Lionel Hollins Expects To Remain Grizzlies Coach Past This Season

Feb 25, 2013 5:18 PM

Lionel Hollins has publicly questioned the Memphis Grizzlies' moves this season, but he stated on Monday that he was just saying he would have liked to see his team stay together like any other coach would.

As far as his future with the Grizzlies, Hollins believes he will stay on as coach past this season, which is the final year on his contract.

“I think I’ll be in Memphis. I believe I’ll be in Memphis," Hollins said. "There’s nothing cut in stone, but that’s my thought process. And if it’s not in Memphis than I’ll try to coach somewhere else and do the best job I can.

“But my thought process is I will be in Memphis, I love the city, I love the organization and the players that we have developed. This is where I’ve been, this is where I’ve had my first real opportunity, and where I’ve had my first success. So I wouldn’t want to go anywhere, but I know the business of basketball and my mind would be open and if it had to happen I would leave. But that’s not my thought process; my thought process is to be here in Memphis.”

Hollins Frustrated With Grizzlies' Lack Of Center Depth Following Trades

Feb 6, 2013 11:04 AM

Lionel Hollins has been left scrambling to fill the center position beyond Marc Gasol for the Memphis Grizzlies following the trades of Mo Speights and Hamed Haddadi.

The Grizzlies were outmatched by Luis Scola and Marcin Gortat when Gasol got into foul trouble in the Grizzlies' 96-90 loss to the Suns.

"One of the issues that I have is that neither Darrell (Arthur) or Ed (Davis) are fives. We don't have another big guy. We weren't able to play big and have two bigger people across the board because we don't have a bigger guy to put in the game."

Pera Defends Grizzlies' Trade Of Gay, Commitment To Winning

Feb 2, 2013 5:52 PM

Memphis Grizzlies controlling owner Robert Pera defended his team’s trade of Rudy Gay.

The Grizzlies sent Gay to Toronto in a three-team trade in exchange for Tayshaun Prince, Austin Daye and Ed Davis.

"Between Tayshuan’s winning pedigree, the league's best perimeter defense, and Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph returning back to the focal point of the offense; I believe we are a far more dangerous playoff team today," Pera wrote in an online chat with Grizzlies season ticket holders.

Pera said NBA history has proven teams can win titles without superstars, and he believes the Grizzlies can become the next example.

"This team was built for playoff basketball," Pera wrote. "In playoff basketball, getting defensive stops and creating high percentage scoring opportunities under pressure becomes much more important. ... And that is what this team can do best."
