Heat Time-Out In Final Minute Irks Bulls

Dec 27, 2008 6:36 AM

While the game was already on ice, a Miami time-out by coach Erik Spoelstra with 30.9 seconds to go in the game has been received as an insult by the Chicago Bulls, the Associated Press is reporting.

"That upset the team. They hit our pride," Bulls' forward Andres Nocioni said. "There was nothing good about calling that timeout. I feel it was out of place. That is something only done to disrespect the opponent."

"I wasn't clearly doing anything to show anybody up," said Spoelstra, who added that he thought some Chicago players were waiting to get into the game when he called the time-out.

Replays showed there were no Bulls at the scorer's table waiting to sub in for other players with 30.9 seconds left although it wasn't clear if any were summoned back to the bench in the final moments. The Bulls did not make any changes during that time-out.

"There is no excuse or motive to call a late timeout with 25 seconds left and the game already decided," Nocioni said.

Spoelstra said he was made aware of the Bulls' unhappiness with the timeout when he saw some Chicago coaches pointing angrily at the Heat bench and assistant coach Ron Rothstein.

"If they want to make a big deal about it, whatever," Spoelstra said. "It's a pretty normal thing. I was perplexed by that, to be honest."

Wade Gives Woman A New House For X-Mas

Dec 25, 2008 7:07 AM

Heat guard Dwyane Wade presented a South Florida woman with keys to a new house, along with some furnishings, clothing, and gifts after her nephew accidentally burnt down her home.

The Wade's World foundation will make some payments on the home while the woman gets back on her feet.

"That's what I try to teach my kids," said Wade. "It's not about what you're going to receive -- it's what you can give to others from what you've received."

Wade: 'Rose Is More Athletic Than Me'

Dec 25, 2008 5:24 AM

Derrick Rose is a couple of inches shorter than Heat star Dwyane Wade, but with both possessing explosiveness and a willingness to get to the rim the comparisons between the two are natural.

But according the Daily Herald, Wade not only sees a lot of himself in the Bulls' rookie, but he believes that Rose is more athletic than himself.

"Derrick Rose, he's taken the league by storm with his athletic ability," Wade said. "I mean, he's one of the best penetrators, finishers, that the league has already. A game that's on ESPN, because of him and (Michael) Beasley, first and second pick - I'm sure he wants to live up to the hype. It's going to be a great challenge."

"I think he's a little more athletic than me," Wade said. "He's kind of like me when I came into the league. He's an attacker. He's a strong penetrator. He throws his body in there. He's a great finisher, as well. I think he's a little more athletic than I was in my rookie year, just how quick he gets off his feet and how high he jumps."

Beasley Says He Has Something To Prove To Bulls

Dec 25, 2008 5:20 AM

The Chicago Bulls opted for Derrick Rose over Michael Beasley with the 2008 first overall pick, and with the duo set to go against each other for the first time on Friday, Beasley has told the Daily Herald that he has something to prove.

"I've been thinking about this game for a long time, just because they didn't pick me," he said Wednesday after the Heat practiced in Miami. "It's nothing against them, it's natural. It's competitive nature. I mean, I think that should be on everybody that didn't go No. 1 and everybody that didn't go No. 2 or 3.

"Me, personally, it's my competitive nature. But me and Derrick Rose, that's irrelevant. It's me and Chicago, Miami, and Chicago."

Beasley Still Ahead Of The Curve Despite Minute Reduction?

Dec 24, 2008 6:16 PM

Erik Spoelstra has limited Michael Beasley to 18, 15, and 13 minutes over the past three games.

"What I see is improvement, I really do. I see great improvement in Michael in the last few weeks," he said. "He's having some very good back-to-back, consecutive practices now, where he's focused, he's ahead of the play. He sees it. And in games, you also start to see it for stretches, where it's getting more consistent."

Spoelstra insists he still believes in Beasley.

"He's really ahead of schedule if you compare him to other four-men that have come in at a really young age," he said. "He's ahead of the curve."
