Report: Wade Yelled At Stern While Making Pointed Remarks

Sep 30, 2011 8:30 PM

Dwyane Wade reportedly yelled at David Stern while making 'pointed remarks' during Friday's labor meeting, sources tell ESPN.

Sources say Stern pointed at Wade, which was taken as a sign of disrespect and that triggered the outburst.

Wade was quoted this week of saying that players like him would be worth upwards of $50 million if there were no salary restrictions.

Zydrunas Ilgauskas To Retire

Sep 30, 2011 11:57 AM

Zydrunas Ilgauskas has told the Cleveland Plain-Dealer that he will retire.

Ilgauskas spent the 10-11 NBA season with the Miami Heat after playing for the Cavaliers since 1997.

Ilgauskas was an All-Star in 2003 and 2005 after fighting back from foot injuries early in his career that limited him to 29 games over three seasons.

"Personal tip of cap to Zydrunas Ilgauskas for going 13 years with those feet," wrote former Cavaliers' beat writer Brian Windhorst. "You can't believe what he went through behind scenes to play."

Wade Believes He Would See $50M Annually On True Open Market

Sep 30, 2011 11:51 AM

Dwyane Wade was asked this week what he believes he would receive annually if there was no maximum contract.

“I’m sure it would get to $50 million,” Wade said.

Jerry Buss has reportedly told people that Bryant is worth perhaps $70 million per year to the Lakers because of his talent and marketability. Many people i

“In terms of driving revenue, if the NBA had no cap, the compensation would be totally different,” Wade said. “Like baseball, where they have no cap, you see the players that they feel fill arenas, that people come out to see, A-Rod, those kind of guys, look at how much money they make on their deals.

“You’ve got guys – starting with Michael Jordan, Shaquille O’Neal(notes), and Kobe and LeBron – all players that individually people wanted to come to see. And wanted to just have a glimpse, just one glimpse, to be able to say that I’ve seen that person play. For what they’ve done for the game, what they’ve done for organizations, I don’t think you can really put a dollar amount on it.”

A report from RealGM in May of 2010 that surveyed the opinions of multiple agents and basketball insiders indicated LeBron James could easily receive a deal over four or five years worth $50 million annually.

George Andrews, former agent to Magic Johnson, spoke with RealGM about the concept of leaving the NBA's superstars uncapped.

"I have always been an advocate that the top guys should not have a cap," Andrews said. "The league is a superstar league. The top handful of teams and top 10 or 11 players drive the economy of the league."

Wade Committed To LeBron For Long-Term

Sep 28, 2011 11:00 AM

Dwyane Wade remains focused on his commitment to LeBron James and Chris Bosh even as the possibility of major changes to the NBA's salary cap threatens their existence.

"The one thing about me and LeBron is we want this to work, we want to win championships or compete for championships," Wade said during a Wednesday appearance on ESPN. "So we want to do everything in our power to make sure it works."

Wade believes he and James can be successful despite their overlapping games.

"We're stuck together," he said with a smile during his SportsCenter interview. "We're married together for the next five years, so we want to do our best."

Wade again downplayed concerns about the duo's similar styles.

"I think me and LeBron just got to come back as better individual players," he said. "I think time has helped and will help us as players."

LeBron Showed More Post Offense In Exhibition

Sep 27, 2011 5:24 PM

LeBron James had an off shooting night in Sunday's exhibition game in Philadelphia where he lacked confidence in his jumper. But the silver-lining could be an increased reliance in his post game.

"But LeBron James’ lack of confidence in the jumper was undeniable, even as he continued to hoist them with the game on the line (sound familiar?)," writes Winderman. "Look, anything that dissuades LeBron from settling for the jumper is not a bad thing. What I liked, a lot, was how he tried to show a bit of a post game."

Bosh On First Season With Heat: It Was More Lows Than Highs

Sep 14, 2011 6:33 PM

Chris Bosh made a radio appearance on Wednesday in which he talked about the first season he spent with the Miami Heat.

"It was highs and lows; it was more lows than highs," said Bosh. "It was tough, because most of the time when we won, it was just a relief. It wasn't really just like, 'Oh my God, I can't believe we did it.' It's like, 'Whew, OK, that's over. Now we've got Round 2.' It was a learning experience."

Bosh knew that expectations would have to be tempered in the first season.

"I know coming together as a team doesn't happen in one year, doesn't happen in two, sometimes, as far as like being the best you can be," he said. "I kind of knew that it was going to be some tough situations ahead of us. I didn't know what those tough situations were going to be as a team and individually. We figured that out as time went on.

Norris Cole Goes To Akron For Workout Session With LeBron

Sep 8, 2011 12:07 AM

Norris Cole received an invitation to Akron from LeBron James last week.

"He welcomed me to the family, the Miami Heat family," Cole said Wednesday. "He found out I was in the area. He asked if I wanted to come work out. He said I could come work out any time he's in the area, and I said, 'OK,' and I took advantage of it."

The two players ran drills and James spoke to Cole about the approach the Heat uses.

"It was good just to see how he worked out, how serious he takes the game," Cole said. "Reaching out, it shows how sincere of a person he is, of a teammate he is."
