Battier May Be Out For Several Games With Knee Injury

Nov 26, 2012 12:39 PM

Shane Battier sat out of Monday's practice two days after spraining his right knee.

Battier said he had a sprained MCL and did not need an MRI.

Battier had a similar injury during his tenure with the Rockets.

"Day to day, we'll see," Battier said. "I didn't hear a pop or anything like that."

LeBron James, however, hinted that Battier would be out longer.

"It's unfortunate we're not going to have him the next few games," James said.

Lewis Has Fallen Out Of Heat Rotation

Nov 26, 2012 10:38 AM

Rashard Lewis began the season as a regular part of the Miami Heat rotation, but did not play for the second consecutive game on Saturday.

"There's a lot of talent on the bench, a lot of guys that can play any given night," Lewis said. "So you've just always got to be ready when your name is called. And when your name's not called, you've still got to be ready."

After playing at least 19 minutes in five of the first six games, Lewis has played 14 or fewer or not at all in the past seven.

Heat To Focus On Defense During Extended Layoff

Nov 25, 2012 1:01 AM

The Miami Heat played the Cleveland Cavaliers, which is the back half of an 11-day stretch where they play just two games.

The Heat had three days off after its six-game road trip followed by two days during the Thanksgiving holiday.

Miami doesn't have another game until the Spurs visit on Thursday.

“It’s crazy,” Mike Miller said. “I’ve never seen anything like it.”

“We look at it that you play the schedule you are given,” Erik Spoelstra said. “There are so many different scenarios during the course of a long 82-game season. We are going to try to be productive during the this stretch.”

The Heat focused on its defense during Friday’s practice and will do so again this week.

Nov 19, 2012 8:31 PM

LeBron James and Kevin Durant have been named Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played Monday, Nov. 12, through Sunday, Nov. 18.

In guiding the Heat to a 3-1 week, James averaged a league-best 29.0, while adding 7.3 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 1.25 blocks. James’ week included a personal season-high 38 points Nov. 12 at Houston in which he scored 32 in the second half while leading the Heat to a come-from-behind 113-110 victory.

James was named Player of the Week six times last week, and has received the honor twice in three weeks.

Durant helped the Thunder to a 3-1 week by averaging a point/rebound double-double, which included a Western Conference-best 28.0 ppg and a team-high 10.3 rpg. Durant added 5.8 apg, 1.75 spg and 1.75 bpg. Bosh Has Led Heat In Scoring In Four Out Of 11 Games

Nov 18, 2012 1:17 PM

Chris Bosh has led the Miami Heat in scoring four times in the first 11 games of the 12-13 NBA season.

Bosh came into the season having only led in scoring 16 times over a season and a half.

"He's such an impact to our team, and so efficient," LeBron James said. "He gets his points so quietly, makes jump shots, gets to the free-throw line. He makes things happen for our team."

Bosh has increased his scoring with Dwyane Wade missing three out of six games on their road trip.

"I know that my role has changed a bit and I have to be a lot more aggressive," Bosh said, "so it's just a matter of making shots when I'm open."

Heat Want Three-Point Barrage To Remain Consistent With Identity

Nov 18, 2012 1:02 PM

The Miami Heat reduced their three-point attempts in Saturday's 97-88 win over the Suns.

For the first time in four games, the Heat attempted fewer than 20 three-pointers. Ray Allen didn't even attempt one, only the ninth time that has happened in his career.

"It's got to be consistent with our identity," said Erik Spoelstra.

"It has to be with an inside-outside attack or via great ball movement, where it's finding the open shooter.

"We don't like to take contested threes. We have enough great shooters in that locker room that if you are able to execute and move the ball freely to the open man, and if they're wide open beyond the three, they're very accurate."

Bledsoe Earning 'Mini-LeBron' Nickname

Nov 15, 2012 10:00 AM

Eric Bledsoe has been so impressive in terms of his athleticism and production that the Los Angeles Clippers have begun calling him "Mini-LeBron."

Jamal Crawford began calling Bledsoe that initially during the offseason.

“[LeBron] actually called me that when we left the court,” said Bledsoe after the Clippers’ 107-100 victory over the Heat at Staples Center on Wednesday. “Yeah, he did. He said, ‘This is Baby LeBron.’”

Bledsoe has a 22.18 player efficiency rating (PER), 23 points, 6.3 assists and 5.4 rebounds per 40 minutes.

“It’s great to be called … one of the greats,” Bledsoe said.

“As a point guard, Bled is unbelievable in transition and he’s unguardable,” Paul said. “He shoots the ball now and he attacks like no one else. Going into the fourth quarter, I just tell him to manage the game. As a point guard, you’re going to know that sometimes when you make a steal, Blake Griffin might be yelling for the ball in transition, and you just have to tell him hold on and just manage the game. Like Peyton Manning.”
