LeBron James Considering Run As NBPA President

Aug 1, 2013 11:39 AM

LeBron James is considering a run to become president of the NBA players union.

“It’s something he has talked about with a small group of people,” a source close to James said. "There is a new executive director coming in and new commissioner. He recognizes that this is the time for the union to change.”

It is still "unlikely" that James takes the presidency, according to the source.

“The demands on LeBron’s time are already substantial," the source said. "Whether it’s formally or informally, LeBron has strong opinions on the future of the union and will be very active in the rebuilding process.”

Brian Windhorst of ESPN also reported that James is interested in becoming president. James is also close friends with Chris Paul, who has served as union vice president.

GM On Rumors: The Beauty Of NBA Is That All This Stuff Is Drama

Jul 29, 2013 12:20 PM

As was the case during the 09-10 season, speculation on where LeBron James will play following the upcoming season is one of the NBA's favorite storylines.

James can elect for free agency in the 2014 offseason with both the Los Angeles Lakers and Cleveland Cavaliers in position to offer a max contract for him to leave the Miami Heat.

"In general, the beauty of our league is that all this stuff is drama," said one Western Conference general manager.

"With every player, there's a drama involved. A lot of it is not necessarily true but some of it is. Everyone loves to speculate about everything, and I think that's what makes it fun."

James has repeatedly said that he is not thinking about his decision in 2014.

"The way that free agency is happening right now, there's always going to be speculation," said a second general manger.

"What's going to happen is you're always going to have some teams and they're going to try to put themselves in position [for James]. If they can strike it, they're going to make sure they have the money and ability to do that."

Chalmers Aware Heat Could Break Up Team In 2014

Jul 27, 2013 12:16 PM

Mario Chalmers has begun to think about the summer of 2014, when Miami’s Big Three of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, as well as Udonis Haslem, can all become free agents.

“Next summer, basically our whole team is up. This might be our last hurrah together. We want to go out with a bang,” Chalmers said.

Chalmers is also scheduled to hit free agency after the 2013-14 season.

“Next year is going to be a good year, a big year. We’re going for the three-peat,” he said.

Oden Could Pick Free Agent Destination By Monday

Jul 27, 2013 11:12 AM

Greg Oden could choose his free agent destination as soon as Monday, his agent, Bill Duffy told NBA.com.

Oden is weighing whether to sign with a contender or a rebuilding team.

“We’ve looked at all the scenarios,” Duffy said. “There might be less pressure if he tries this with a team that’s rebuilding. Then again, the quality of the medical staff will matter. Maybe a winning team has chemistry that’s good or his role would be clearly defined.”

Oden has worked out for Miami, New Orleans, Sacramento, San Antonio, Atlanta and Dallas.

“Physically, he’s awesome,” Duffy said Friday afternoon. “We’re very happy with where he is. [His health and impact are] going to depend on monitoring him and his minutes.”

LeBron Unlikely To Play For Team USA Again

Jul 25, 2013 11:42 AM

LeBron James will not participate in the 2014 FIBA World Cup in Spain for Team USA and is doubtful for the 2016 Olympics in Brazil.

James won an Olympic Gold Medal in 2008 and again in 2012.

"LeBron is going to be three years older during the next Olympics. He will have two older boys. He has a lot to endure with his family," the source told Y! Sports. "He played in three Olympics. Everyone that knows LeBron knows it's always based on a decision at that moment. But if the moment was today, the answer would be no."

James will place a higher importance on offseason rest moving forward.

Kevin Durant and Kevin Love have committed to 2014, while Russell Westbrook and James Harden are expected to be play as well.

Jerry Colangelo has not asked James if he will play in 2016.

"I don't think he will ever too old," Colangelo said. "He can be 40 and still be able to play. Think of what he might be able to accomplish in terms of legacy with one more medal.

"We'll cross that bridge later."
