Oct 31, 2018 2:56 PM

Tom Thibodeau is not believed to be ready yet to seriously negotiate a trade of Jimmy Butler.

The Houston Rockets, Miami Heat and Philadelphia 76ers have interest in Butler.

Heat Not Trying To Re-Engage Wolves On Jimmy Butler Trade

Oct 13, 2018 12:13 PM

Pat Riley has formally denied a report that indicated he cursed out Tom Thibodeau at the end of their trade negotiations over Jimmy Butler.

"As to what has been reported in the past 24 hours, I have too much respect for Tom Thibodeau and all that he’s accomplished in this league," Riley said of the Timberwolves coach and team president. "Our conversations have been nothing but cordial and I have never used that kind of language in negotiations, but I do admit to telling Danny Ainge to..."

Multiple reports indicated the Heat nearly acquired Butler from the Wolves last week.

The Heat, according to a source familiar with the dealings, "are not trying to re-engage" in Butler the talks.

Oct 9, 2018 6:11 PM

The Minnesota Timberwolves declined to accept a trade offer from the Miami Heat for Jimmy Butler that was centered on Josh Richardson and a protected first round pick.

With Butler requesting a trade, the trade package offered by Miami is considered very competitive.

Numerous teams have complained in recent days that Tom Thibodeau and Scott Layden are acting like they really don’t want to make a deal.

But Glen Taylor reportedly has balked at moving forward with the trade with the Heat.

Justise Winslow Believes Extension With Heat 'Getting Close'

Oct 9, 2018 12:36 PM

Justise Winslow believes he is "getting close" to agreeing to a contract extension with the Miami Heat.

Players selected in the first round of the 2015 NBA Draft have until Oct. 15 to agree to extensions, otherwise they will become restricted free agents on July 1.

Winslow has also been mentioned in trade talks with the Wolves for Jimmy Butler.

"There's been talks. We're getting close," Winslow said. "I think it should get done."

Last year, four former first-round picks received rookie-scale extension by the October deadline: Andrew Wiggins, Joel Embiid, Gary Harris and T.J. Warren.

An NBA official from another team said he expected Winslow to move into 2019 free agency because of the surplus of expected salary-cap space around the league.

Wolves, Heat Nearly Reach Deal On Jimmy Butler Before Talks Collapse

Oct 7, 2018 8:10 PM

Trade talks between the Minnesota Timberwolves and Miami Heat on Jimmy Butler reached the brink of completion before falling apart.

Minnesota had shared Butler's medical information with Miami late in the week.

Glen Taylor and Micky Arison became involved in the trade talks and there was hope of a call to the league to finalize it. But the Wolves moved to amend the framework of the trade and talks collapsed on Saturday.

Miami had softened on including guard Josh Richardson in versions of a possible deal for Butler, only to recoil once Minnesota pushed late for a sweeter return.

Talks could pick up again in the future.

Miami's believed willingness to pay Butler something in the neighborhood of a five-year, $190 million maximum contract next summer has played a part in Butler's enthusiasm in pursuing a deal there.
