Jimmy Butler Says Bam Adebayo Is 'No Doubt' An All-Star

Jan 28, 2020 1:49 AM

Jimmy Butler was confident that Bam Adebayo would be named to his first All-Star Game.

"He will be. No doubt," said Butler following the Heat's 113-92 win over the Magic.

Reserves for the All-Star Game will be announced on Thursday.

Adebayo finished the game with 20 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists. He dedicated his performance to Kobe Bryant.

"I felt like I had that 'Mamba Mentality' tonight ... "The game wasn't about the All-Star Game. It was about honoring Kobe. I feel like every player wanted to do that their next game after his death. He's been my idol since I was younger. I looked up to him, and I never got to meet him, but he was here by spirit," said Adebayo.

Dion Waiters Takes 'Full Responsibility' For 'Immature Decisions'

Jan 27, 2020 11:33 AM

Dion Waiters has publicly taken responsibility for the state of his season in which he has been suspended three separate times by the Miami Heat.

Waiters didn't address any of the incidents specifically.

“I’m a grown man. I don’t point fingers. I’m could easily say this and that, but at the end of the day, it’s me,” Waiters said. “I made immature decisions. So, you know, I take full responsibility.”

Waiters made his season debut on Friday and could play significant minutes this week with the Heat experiencing multiple injuries to perimeter players.

“There’s so many moving parts right now,” Erik Spoelstra said. “You just want everybody to put in the time behind the scenes and get into a healthy head space where you can contribute when your number is called and he did that. He still has a ways to go with his conditioning, particularly game conditioning. That’s to be expected. But he’s a gamer.”

Heat Could Have Interest In Either LaMarcus Aldridge, DeMar DeRozan

Jan 17, 2020 5:48 PM

The San Antonio Spurs have not yet decided whether they will explore the trade market on LaMarcus Aldridge and DeMar DeRozan, but a source contends they view the Miami Heat as a potential trade partner for either player.

DeRozan has a $27.7 million player option for the 20-21 season. Aldridge is due $24 million next season.

The Spurs would seek more than Justise Winslow, Derrick Jones Jr. and expiring contracts with Kendrick Nunn a possibility.

Aldridge would be a more logical fit for the Heat and the team has pursued him in the past.

The Heat are trying to maintain their 2021 cap space to presumably pursue Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Erik Spoelstra: There's A Reason Why We Chased Jimmy Butler So Hard, Backed Up The Brink's Truck

Jan 14, 2020 12:42 PM

Pat Riley and the Miami Heat made a bold sign-and-trade for Jimmy Butler last offseason a few months after nearly trading for him during the 18-19 season. Butler has helped elevate the Heat to playoff contenders again.

"There's a reason why we chased him so hard, and backed up the Brink's truck to get a max player," Erik Spoelstra said. "That was the idea: to have a guy that we believe can take us to a different level.

"That's what he's doing right now."

Butler allows the Heat offense to function without a traditional point guard in the starting lineup and also espouses all the principles of "Heat Culture".

Spoelstra even thinks about what would have happened had the Heat selected Butler in 2011 instead of Norris Cole.

"It felt like he should've been with us all along," Spoelstra said with a smile. "All along. I was joking about it with [Heat senior adviser] Chet Kammerer. ... I was saying, 'Man, looking back on it now, how great would Jimmy Butler have been drafting him after that first year with the Big Three?' Could've slotted him in with LeBron (James) be the point, Dwyane (Wade), Jimmy be your 3, CB (Chris Bosh), Shane (Battier) ... that team could've gone on."

"I'm just here to hoop," Butler said when asked if he thought about the future possibilities for the organization when he agreed to come to Miami. "I'll let Coach Pat, Coach Spo and everybody else in the front office deal with all of that.

"I just know that I wanted to be here, I am here, and whatever we do, if we stick with this team, our job is still to win. We're locked in right now, and we'll worry about the future when it gets here."
