76ers Remain Interested In Pursuing Kyle Lowry In Free Agency

Apr 28, 2021 1:54 PM

The Philadelphia 76ers still plan to pursue Kyle Lowry in free agency via a possible sign-and-trade.

The Toronto Raptors and 76ers held trade talks on Lowry at the deadline but no deal was consummated.

The Miami Heat and Los Angeles Lakers also tried to trade for Lowry at the deadline. The Heat are the only team of the three in position to possibly sign Lowry outright.

“Really good,” one general manager told The Athletic when asked about Lowry’s market. “There’s teams with money and not a lot of players, so I think he’s going to do really well.”

Dwyane Wade's role with Turner Sports' NBA coverage is not expected to change due to his stake in the Utah Jazz ownership group, sources told Marc Stein of The New York Times.

Wade will be subject to the same rules as other Turner analysts including Shaquille O'Neal and Grant Hill, precluding him from participating in the team's basketball operations if he stays on television.

Wade has stated that he plans to take an active role with the Jazz.

Jimmy Butler After Loss To Wolves: 'We Don't Deserve To Win'

Apr 17, 2021 12:16 PM

Jimmy Butler criticized the Miami Heat's inconsistency and lack of humility following their 119-111 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

“We don’t deserve to win. Whenever we take these teams lightly, we don’t do what we’re supposed to do on the defensive end, we just look bad, as a whole, as a group, as a unit. It’s not good basketball," said Butler following the loss.

The team is currently on a three-game losing streak.

“It’s on us to figure it out. I can’t tell you which way we’re going to go. I don’t know what team is going to show up on any given night," added Butler.

Butler lead the team with 30 points, 10 rebounds, and 8 assists.

The guard also implored Bam Adebayo to be more aggressive on offense.

“I want Bam to attack the rim, because nobody can stay in front of him. Go. You’re going to get fouled or you’re going to dunk on somebody ... play bully ball. I like bully ball.”

Dwyane Wade Buys Ownership Stake In Jazz

Apr 16, 2021 1:31 PM

Dwyane Wade has purchased an ownership stake in the Utah Jazz and plans to take an active role in the franchise and region.

Wade is the latest of several Hall of Fame-level players with NBA ownership stakes, including Grant Hill (Atlanta Hawks), Shaquille O'Neal (Sacramento Kings) and Charlotte Hornets majority owner Michael Jordan. Magic Johnson previously had a 4% stake in the Los Angeles Lakers.

"This goes way beyond the dream I had to just play basketball in the NBA," Wade told ESPN. "I've seen Shaq do it in Sacramento. I've seen Grant Hill do it in Atlanta. I've seen Jordan do it in Charlotte. If this partnership is going to be anything like my relationship is with Ryan, there are going to be a lot of things that I'll want to be involved in. ...

"Unfortunately, people in my community don't get this opportunity, and I do not take it lightly to have this opportunity. To make real change, this is where you have to be -- at the top -- and Ryan knows that. I'm thankful for him, and I know too that I bring a lot to this partnership outside of just my basketball knowledge and skills."

Wade met Smith at a golf course in 2019 and they soon became friends.

The NBA has a bylaw that ownership stakes can be no less than 1% of the team, but Wade's financial investment in the franchise is not immediately clear.

Micky Arison on Twitter expressed disappointment that Wade didn't reconsider a stake in the Miami franchise after previous negotiations.
