Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat continue to be snakebit by injuries. For just the 12th time this season, Miami had their preferred starting lineup available. That good fortune lasted all of one half.
Butler sprained his right ankle in the first quarter of Friday's loss to the Indiana Pacers. He was initially able to play through the injury, but it tightened up at halftime. Butler eventually left for good towards the end of the third quarter, despite Miami being in a tight game.
The Heat's star player has missed 12 of Miami's 33 games this season. He's missed time due to various issues, but mostly due to lingering knee soreness. Now, Butler has another injury to deal with, as Miami fell back under .500 on the season.
The Miami Heat were fined $25,000 for violating the NBA's injury reporting rules. Miami had several players listed as questionable or probable for Wednesday's game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. A handful of those players sat out, but others, who played, never had their status updated to available prior to the game.
In response, the Heat have listed every player on their active roster on the injury report prior to their game against the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday. That matchup is taking place in Mexico City as part of the NBA's international series.
Only Jamal Cain (G League Assignment) and Gabe Vincent and Omer Yurtseven (injured) are listed as out. The remaining 13 players are listed as questionable or probable to play in the game.
The Detroit Pistons and Nerlens Noel agreed that a trade would best suit both parties, sources told James L. Edwards III of The Athletic.
Noel has appeared in just six games this season for the Pistons.
The Blazers, Heat, Kings, and Mavs have registered the most interest in a potential deal.
Cam Reddish recently told reporters he hasn't asked the New York Knicks for a trade. Reddish also said he had no knowledge of the Knicks talking trades with anyone. However, New York is reportedly looking at deals that could involve the fourth-year wing.
The Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat and Milwaukee Bucks have all shown interest in Reddish since the Knicks acquired him last season. The Lakers and Knicks talked trades involving Reddish earlier this month, but were unable to find a third team to complete the deal.
Reddish did not reach agreement on an extension before the season and will be eligible for restricted free agency this summer. New York has reportedly tried to attach him to Evan Fournier in a trade to shed Fournier's contract.
The Miami Heat have waived Two-Way guard Dru Smith. Miami replaced Smith by signing center Orlando Robinson to a Two-Way deal.
Smith started the season on a Two-Way deal with the Heat. He was waived in mid-November, when a need in the frontcourt necessitated signing Robinson. Miami then waived Robinson in late-November and re-signed Smith.
Robinson, as noted above, is in his second Two-Way stint with the Heat. Robinson, like Smith, has spent time with the Sioux Falls Skyforce in the G League this season, in between stints with Miami.
Stanley Johnson has agreed to sign with Sioux Falls Skyforce of the G League.
Johnson was waived by the Utah Jazz before the start of the season.
The Miami Heat, parent affiliate of the Skyforce, currently have an open roster spot.
Victor Oladipo has missed the Miami Heat's first 23 games of this season. But Oladipo may be closing in on making his season debut.
When asked about how his knee has been feeling and when he might return, Oladipo said his knee feels good. He emphasized that he's being patient with his return to the lineup.
Jimmy Butler was upgraded by the Miami Heat to questionable for Friday's game at the Boston Celtics. Butler himself seemed to confirm he'd be making his return in that game.
Butler posted a video of himself on a plane. He said, "Boston...I'm on the way. I'm on the way. Can't wait. Can't wait. I've been out for too long. I'm getting thirsty... Go Heat."
Butler hasn't played in over two weeks. His last appearance was in a game at the Toronto Raptors on November 16. Since then, Butler has been out with knee soreness. Miami went 3-4 in the games Butler missed during this absence.
