Manu Ginobili and Spurs teammates Brent Barry and Matt Bonner missed San Antonio's game against the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday night because of what the team said was a stomach flu.

Milwaukee Bucks forward Bobby Simmons underwent successful surgery to remove bone spurs from his right ankle on Tuesday.

Bucks general manager Larry Harris told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that Dr. Richard Ferkel performed the surgery at the Southern California Orthopedic Institute in Van Nuys, Calif.

He now has to have another surgery to deal with a cyst in his right heel bone and plantar fasciitis, an inflammation of the tissue that connects the heel to base of the toes. That procedure has not been scheduled.

The Charlie Villanueva selection in the 2005 NBA Draft drew the ire of many Raptors' fans, but so did the trade that sent him to Milwaukee.

"When I first heard about the trade I was a little bit shocked and it caught me off guard," Villanueva, 22, said. "I didn't expect them to trade me after my first year but then I sat back and looked at the situation in Milwaukee and I was like, `Wow, this is a good situation. This is a team that made it to the playoffs last year, won 40 games and has a chance to go to the playoffs again and they traded their starting point guard for me.'"

Bobby Simmons confirmed Thursday he'll miss the rest of the season because his ailing right ankle and foot will require two surgeries.

"I'm sitting here watching, and I know there's a lot of things that I can do out there on the court and I just can't get out there," he told the Associated Press in a phone interview from the team's Milwaukee practice facility. "I was hoping and praying that I'd have an opportunity someday soon to get out there with the guys. That didn't happen."

Simmons is scheduled to undergo his first operation of any kind when he has arthroscopic surgery to remove bone spurs in his right ankle on Dec. 18.

He'll have a second surgery a short time later on his right foot to correct a cyst in his heel bone and help ease plantar fasciitis, an inflammation of the tissue that connects the heel to base of the toes.

"It wasn't excruciating pain, but you know your own body and it's just a feeling that I had that I never felt before," Simmons said. "Some days, it throbbed a little bit, some days it didn't. It really just mattered how much pain it could be possible to handle."

Larry Harris, GM of the Bucks, said Tuesday that Bobby Simmons is likely to undergo two surgeries to repair three areas in his injured foot during the next four weeks.

Simmons will have bone spurs removed in the first procedure and the second surgery will include the removal of a cyst on his heel.

The second surgery also will address the plantar fasciitis that has plagued Simmons since last season.

"In the next couple days, we'll have a more definitive plan, but we're working with the doctors on what that plan is going to be and when Bobby will wind up going out to L.A., and how that's all going to take place," Harris said.

The right heel of Bobby Simmons may require him to undergo season ending surgery.

"We're not optimistic," general manager Larry Harris said.

The Bucks expect to know more by the end of the week.

The Milwaukee Bucks? Michael Redd and the Denver Nuggets? Carmelo Anthony today were named the Eastern  and  Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played Monday, Nov. 27 through Sunday, Dec. 3.

Redd averaged 35.3  points on .541 shooting in leading the Bucks to a 2-1 week.  Third in the NBA in scoring (30.4 ppg), Redd shot .412 from three-point range last week and added 3.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game.  His 45-point night at Staples Center on Nov. 28 helped the Bucks to win on the Lakers? home court for the first time since 2000.

Anthony led Denver to a 2-1 week, which included wins over Minnesota and Indiana.  Scoring 35 or better in all three contests last week, Anthony has now  scored  over 30 points in 12 of Denver?s 15 games this season. For the week, Anthony averaged 36.7 points along with 5.2 rebounds and 4.3 assists, while shooting .570 from the field and .500 from three-point range.
