Adam Silver Suggested Bucks Consider Hiring Danny Ferry

Jun 30, 2017 12:04 PM

Adam Silver advised the Milwaukee Bucks to consider hiring Danny Ferry when they began to struggle with who to hire as general manager.

Milwaukee ownership was not unanimous in elevating Justin Zanik for the job while another candidate, Arturas Karnisovas, wa given a promotion to remain with the Denver Nuggets.

Ferry is currently a consultant for the Pelicans and was open to discussing the job but never formally interviewed.

Ferry took an indefinite leave of absence and was eventually replaced when he was general manager of the Hawks after reading a racist scouting report on Luol Deng.

Both Ferry and Silver attended Duke.

Jon Horst Didn't Know He Was Candidate For Bucks' GM Job

Jun 30, 2017 12:05 PM

While the entire NBA was surprised Jon Horst was elevated by the Milwaukee Bucks to general manager, even Horst was surprised by the move.

The Bucks had already decided to promote Horst to general manager when he was summoned to meet with ownership and he didn't realize he was a candidate.

Milwaukee deviated from their plan to have Justin Zanik replace John Hammond, who departed the franchise a year early to join the Orlando Magic.

The Bucks even began to schedule their introductory press conference for Horst before he signed his deal.

Milwaukee's ownership disagreed upon promoting Zanik and hiring Horst was a compromise.

When Wes Edens, Marc Lasry and Jamie Dinan pooled their money to purchase the Bucks in 2014, they agreed to vote on major matters, according to sources. While a 2-1 majority could rule, the group wanted all decisions to be unanimous, and they worked together to make sure that was the case.

Horst is on a three-year contract starting at $500,000, which is very modest based on current GM standards.
