Giannis Antetokounmpo Says 'We Have A Long Way To Go' Following Bucks Sweep

May 29, 2021 7:30 PM

The Milwaukee Bucks swept the Miami Heat in the first round following a 120-103 win.

"It's a great moment for us, winning 4-0, and beating the team that beat us last year," said Giannis Antetokounmpo after the game. "But at the end of the day we have a long way to go."

Antetokounmpo finished with a triple-double of 20 points, 15 assists, and 12 rebounds.

Brook Lopez lead the Bucks in scoring with 25 points.

Mike Budenholzer credited Antetokounmpo's defense on Jimmy Butler with the win, with Butler shooting just 4-of-15 from the field.

"Giannis has unique defensive talent, and Butler is such a great talent, scorer, passer. It takes a lot of discipline to guard a guy like Jimmy Butler. For Giannis to have that discipline with the competitiveness makes him special," said Budenholzer.

Lopez also contributed on the defensive end, with Heat players shooting 32% on shots he contested throughout the series.

Bucks Unanimously Were Opposed To Avoiding Heat In First Round

May 27, 2021 10:58 AM

The Milwaukee Bucks had internal discussions about trying to avoid the Miami Heat in the first round by tanking their penultimate regular season game of the season against the Heat, sources tell Zach Lowe of ESPN.

The Bucks "unanimously opted against it."

Miami defeated the Bucks in the second round of last year's playoffs.

In discussing the scenario, some reflected back on their first round loss in 2018 to the Boston Celtics that was followed up with a 4-1 defeat of Boston in the second round in 2019.

Jrue Holiday After Bryn Forbes Scores 22 Points: 'We Were Running Everything To Him'

May 25, 2021 1:31 AM

Bryn Forbes scored 22 points, including shooting 6-for-9 from three, in the Milwaukee Bucks 132-98 win over the Miami Heat.

The Bucks now lead the series 2-0.

"If my man got the hot hand, I'm going to him," said Jrue Holiday about Forbes' game. "And he wasn't missing, so at that point we were running everything to him just to -- really just to see what happens."

The Bucks matched an NBA record with 10 3s in the first quarter and lead by 26 points.

Holiday added 15 assists, with Giannis Antetokounmpo scoring 31 points.

Forbes credited the Bucks defense for their scoring display.

"Defense had something to do with it. We were getting big stops and pushing it in transition and just finding shots," added Forbes.

Giannis Antetokounmpo: I Don't Know If This Year Is Gonna Be Different

May 21, 2021 11:11 AM

Giannis Antetokounmpo was asked if this year's playoffs will be different than last year when the Milwaukee Bucks were eliminated by the Miami Heat in the second round of the playoffs.

"I don't know if this year is gonna be different," said Antetokounmpo. "I'm not gonna lie to you. It might be the same. Who knows. The results are gonna talk for themselves in the end. But at the end of the day, I don't get too high, don't get too low. I feel like last year, probably because of the bubble I wasn't able to get away from basketball. Like, losing a game and just going to the hotel and seeing the players that just beat you, you got too low."

While the Bucks already extended Antetokounmpo, the team still has tremendous pressure to reach The Finals.

Jrue Holiday: I Feel Like I'm The Defensive Player Of The Year Every Year

May 12, 2021 2:23 PM

Jrue Holiday has only been voted to the All-Defensive First Team and Second Teams one time apiece, but he is lobbying for a place again this season.

“Man, I feel like I'm the Defensive Player of the Year every year,” Holiday told Yahoo Sports in an exclusive phone interview. “I'm not joking about that. And I know this is my opinion, and other people have different opinions and they'll probably think I'm crazy. But I think what I bring defensively on the court, a lot of people don't really do, to be completely honest.

“I feel like I should be in the conversation every year. I’m being serious. This isn't the first year I've been playing defense this way.”

Holiday has been assigned to 584 defensive matchups against the top 10 scorers in the league, the most of any player.

Rudy Gobert and Ben Simmons have most frequently been mentioned as candidates for Defensive Player of the Year.

“I don't know, but maybe because I'm not flashy,” Holiday said to Yahoo Sports. “I'm super low-key, and I don't need much attention, I don't want much attention. I don't talk trash, and I'm not really that loud. Maybe it's just more like a business transaction. I go out there and do my job. And then once my job is done, I go home and chill with my family. But I'm not popular, and I'm OK with that. I don't want to be popular. If I'm not on TV a lot, and you don't see me playing defense, you don't see me doing what I do. The Lakers are on TV, Boston's on TV, but when I was in New Orleans, we weren't on TV as much as we wanted to be. So maybe that's a part of the reason why I’m overlooked.

“Does it make me mad? No. I'm OK with kind of being under the radar. I'm not a flashy person, so these are things that I can't control. I know a lot of guys that hoop respect my game just like I respect theirs. I feel like that means more to me. Unfortunately, the players don’t have a vote.”

Andre Iguodala of the Miami Heat called Holiday the “best defender in the league.” Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard said, “To me, [Jrue’s] the best defender in the league. Like, out of the guards, I think he’s the best.”
