Khris Middleton: Accepting Olympic Invite Was 'Easy Decision' Despite Playoff Run

Jun 26, 2021 2:01 PM

Khris Middleton and Jrue Holiday said that they remain focused on the Milwaukee Bucks playoff run despite accepting invites to play in the Tokyo Olympics.

"We're in the middle of a championship run," said Middleton. "To take a second to think about something outside of this season, it was a little tough to think about it. But it was an easy decision for me to go ahead and commit."

The U.S. team is planning to arrive in Tokyo on July 21, with the first game starting on July 25.

If necessary, Game 7 of the NBA Finals would take place on July 22.

"I think I'm always focused on the immediate, what's happening right now. That's been my main focus, and it's going to continue to be that," added Holiday. "If we go the Finals or whatever happens, up until that point, this is what matters."

Trae Young Says Game 2 Loss Is 'All On Me'

Jun 26, 2021 1:04 PM

The Milwaukee Bucks beat the Atlanta Hawks 125-91 in Game 2 to even the series at 1-1.

Trae Young took the blame for the Hawks loss after turning the ball over nine times.

"That's all on me," Young said. "I've got to be better at taking care of the ball. And do a better job of at least getting us a shot and not turning it over so much. And I've got to do better and I will be better next game."

Young finished with 16 points on 6-of-16 shooting, while adding three assists.

He also only drew one foul in Game 2, the fewest he's drawn in any game this season.

"A lot of it is more about how the refs are going to call it that night," added Young about the lack of fouls. "If they're going to let them be aggressive, they're going to let them be aggressive. If they're not -- I mean, they're going to call it the way it's supposed to be, then it would be different."

Jrue Holiday guarded Young on 29 out of 47 plays in the first half, with Young having six turnovers on those possessions.

Young added that he didn't see a change in the Bucks' defensive scheme, saying he just needed to take better care of the ball.

"They didn't really change up too much of their defensive scheme. They were more in on the rollers so the perimeter was more open, and I've just got to make better reads. I take complete responsibility for whatever happened tonight. Taking care of the ball is something I've got to be better at, and I will be better at it."

Mike Budenholzer Likely Secured Future With Bucks Following Game 7 Win

Jun 20, 2021 3:28 PM

The future of Mike Budenholzer as head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks appears to be far more secure now that they've advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals than it did when they were down 0-2 to the Brooklyn Nets.

"Mike Budenholzer knew coming into this season that his future in Milwaukee would be judged by his postseason performance," said Adrian Wojnarowski on NBA Countdown on Sunday. "He's gone through Miami and now he's gone through the Brooklyn Nets into the Eastern Conference Finals. I'm told that has gone a long way in securing Mike Budenholzer's future in Milwaukee. He has one year left on his contract."

Wojnarowski previously reported that the Bucks would likely part ways with Budenholzer if their postseason run "ended in a thud."

The Bucks will play the winner of the Philadelphia 76ers and Atlanta Hawks series.

Giannis Antetokounmpo Following Game 7 Win: 'We Are Built For This'

Jun 20, 2021 1:10 PM

Giannis Antetokounmpo reflected on the Milwaukee Bucks' Game 7 overtime win over the Brooklyn Nets, saying that his teammates were built to rise to the occasion.

"We worked extremely hard our whole life for this moment," said Antetokounmpo. "So we wanted everybody to live up to this moment, to feel this moment, to cherish this moment, because we are built for this.

Antetokounmpo finished the game with 40 points and 13 rebounds. Khris Middleton added 23 points and 10 rebounds.

Brook Lopez had 19 points, which also included a key block late in overtime.

PJ Tucker compared the game to a boxing match.

"That was, like, the longest game ever," Tucker said. "It seemed like we were playing for hours. Just like a boxing match [that] just wasn't going to end."

Antetokounmpo added a reminder that the Bucks still had a ways to achieving their ultimate goal.

"The job is not done. So that's the message here, that's the message in the locker room. We've got to keep keeping our heads within the game. Can't get too high, can't get too low."

Rick Carlisle Connected To Head Coaching Jobs With Bucks, Pacers

Jun 18, 2021 7:57 AM

Rick Carlisle abruptly stepped down as head coach of the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday and he's emerged as one of the top available candidates for current vacancies. There could also be an additional vacancy involving Mike Budenholzer and the Milwaukee Bucks should they not advance to at least the Eastern Conference Finals.

"Reading the tea leaves, there's a couple things there," said Tim MacMahon on The Hoop Collective. "Number one, I do think that Rick realized just how hot his seat would be to start next season. I'm half kidding I say I thought he'd be fired by Christmas, but he resigned by Father's Day instead.

"How fast is he going to have another job?" asked Brian Windhorst. "Is he going to have another job by Independence Day?"

"That's number two," continued MacMahon. "I know Rick Carlisle very well. He's obviously an extremely intelligent man. He's a planner. He's a plotter. He's a pilot. Rick's plane has a parachute. If he wants to hit a button, it has a parachute. Rick ain't going up in the air without a parachute. He's not jumping off the plane unless he has a really sturdy parachute... Read the statement Rick gave to [Adrian Wojnarowski]... He has something lined up.

"There's two destination that are heavily rumored. The first you just mentioned is the Bucks. If Bud goes, Rick moved in there would immediately allow him to take over a championship contending team."

"There's a lot of smoke about a potential Rick Carlisle reunion with the Pacers," said MacMahon. MacMahon indicated that he hasn't heard that rumor from anyone directly involved. Carlisle was head coach of the Pacers from 2003 until 2007.

Giannis Antetokounmpo Says Focus In Game 6 Was To 'Get Downhill, Make The Right Play'

Jun 18, 2021 1:35 AM

Giannis Antetokounmpo said that his focus was on being aggressive following the Milwaukee Bucks' 104-89 win over the Brooklyn Nets in Game 6.

The series is now tied 3-3, with Game 7 on Saturday in Brooklyln.

"I didn't shoot a 3 tonight, but I'm just trying to be aggressive," said Antetokounmpo. "Get downhill, make the right play, I think there was maybe one or two plays I was open at the 3-point line and maybe could have shot it.

"But what I know is that I enjoy the game when I'm aggressive, and I can get downhill and I can get my teammates involved, and when I play to my strengths."

Antetokounmpo finished the game with 30 points and 17 rebounds, all without shooting a single three pointer. Khris Middleton added 38 points and 10 rebounds.

11 of Antetokounmpo's 12 field goals came from inside the paint. His average field goal distance in the game was 5.6 feet, the lowest of this playoffs.

Mike Budenholzer added that Antetokounmpo needed to remain aggressive for Game 7.

"Giannis coming into the game was in a good place. Just get him where he's attacking and creating for his teammates, creating for himself. He came in today in a good place, and we've got to stay there going into Game 7."
