Wolves To Campaign For Brewer As Most Improved

Mar 29, 2010 6:00 AM

The Timberwolves will reveal their publicity campaign in support of Corey Brewer as the NBA's Most Improved Player on Tuesday.

The effort will largely focus on Brewer's success as a shooter.

"He's gotten better at a lot of things since the season started," coach Kurt Rambis said. "His ballhandling. His ability to distribute the basketball. He's working on getting better as an on-the-ball defender."

Brewer's main competition will likely be Houston's Aaron Brooks and Marc Gasol of Memphis.

Timberwolves Plan To Re-Sign Darko

Mar 27, 2010 4:08 PM

The Timberwolves plan to offer forward Darko Milicic a multi-year contract this summer.

Milicic, who will become a free agent, has said previously that he plans on returning to Europe, but his stance has soften lately.

Minnesota acquired Milicic from New York last month.

"He has provided us with something we sorely needed. He has the height and size and mobility," Timberwolves coach Kurt Rambis said Friday. "He can play well at both ends of the floor. He gives us what we need at center. We've shown him that he could fit in well here."

A team source confirmed their plans to try and re-sign him this summer.

Darko Wants Guaranteed Playing Time Before Committing To NBA

Mar 23, 2010 4:34 PM

Darko Milicic may be willing to return to the NBA next season if the Timberwolves can guarantee him starter's minutes.

"Yeah, I'd come back. That's what I'm looking for," Milicic said. "Minnesota came up and they kind of trust me. They gave me a chance, and I like it."

He had been strongly against remaining in the NBA, commenting several times that he plans to return to Europe.

"I think he likes doing all the things he's doing out there," Minnesota coach Kurt Rambis said. "I just wanted him to be in an environment where he sees the potential of how he can fit in to how I envision our team playing."

D'Antoni Surprised By Douglas But What About Hill, Darko?

Mar 20, 2010 1:06 PM

Toney Douglas led a fourth-quarter rally that propelled the Knicks to a come-from-behind win over the Sixers at Madison Square Garden.  Douglas scored 14 of his 22 points in the final period and made two crucial steals down the stretch.

After the game, Mike D'Antoni admitted to being surprised by the clutch play of his rookie point guard.

"That was a pretty good fourth quarter, I know that much," D'Antoni said. "I didn't know he could do that. The guy has a big heart, and you can see that. He has some ice water in his veins."

D'Antoni's coaching decisions have recently come under fire from members of the media and other close observers of the team -- particularly those on RealGM's forums -- who have called his rotations into question.

Despite the Knicks' victory over Philadelphia, Friday was a difficult night for D'Antoni in this regard.  Three players who were buried on his bench for the majority of the season turned in noteworthy performances.  In addition to Douglas, Jordan Hill and Darko Milicic -- two big men whom Donnie Walsh brought in during the off-season to give the Knicks some much-needed size -- had outstanding games for their respective new teams.

Hill registered 11 points, 7 rebounds and 5 blocks for the Rockets; Milicic had 16 points and 12 rebounds for the Timberwolves.  Both players were dealt away on the trade deadline day in February, with the lottery pick Hill sacrificed to help the Knicks shed the contract of Jared Jeffries and Milicic simply dumped in a money-saving move as the former lottery pick was seeing virtually no playing time in New York.

Love Hopes Maturity Will End Frustrations

Mar 20, 2010 12:03 PM

The Wolves have won just once since February 6th, leading Kevin Love to become frustrated with himself.

"One of the things I have to get over is being so hard on myself," he said. "There are some nights where I'll have 20 [points] and 12 [rebounds] and I'll say, 'Shoot, I missed six shots.' That's just something I have to get over. It's all about growing up and being mature.

"I'm 21 years old. I can't really use that as an excuse. I'm supposed to act like a grown up. I do need to step up and play through stuff."

"He's very, very, very hard on himself," head coach Kurt Rambis said. "If you get down on yourself, you're letting the past affect the future. Players have to learn how to get through those things. It helps them mature. Things don't always work out: They get injured. They have good patches. They have bad patches. He's an accomplished player in this league, a respected player in this league.

"I still haven't changed my mind that he can be exceptional doing the things I envision him being able to do. He's a developing young player trying to grow his game. Right now, he's in a frustrating patch. But he'll work his way through it."

Rambis Expects 09-10 Adversity To Be 'A Good Test Of Character'

Mar 16, 2010 1:16 AM

Kurt Rambis admitted that he and David Kahn have given his young team a lot of adversity because of how their personnel moves have been with the summer in mind.

"These players, it's a good test of their character to see who fights and swings and plays hard," Rambis said. "Guys who quit, it's hard to win. It's hard to be a winner. It's easy to quit. It's easy to roll over. Most people when they run into adversity take a step back, just let things go by.

"It's a mark of a true champion, a competitor, a winner who continues to fight when things aren't going well for them."
