Wolves Could Quickly Agree To Deal With Jeff Teague

Jun 30, 2017 8:05 PM

The Minnesota Timberwolves will pursue Jeff Teague in free agency and at least one rival team believes he's already committed to signing.

According to sources, the New York Knicks are no longer pursuing Teague in free agency as they're convinced he's already committed to the Wolves.

The Wolves traded away Ricky Rubio to the Utah Jazz and the widely reported expectation is they have a commitment from a free agent point guard.

The Indiana Pacers traded for Teague last June while giving up fellow expiring contract George Hill.

Jazz Acquire Ricky Rubio From Wolves For 1st Round Pick

Jun 30, 2017 5:12 PM

The Minnesota Timberwolves have traded Ricky Rubio to the Utah Jazz. Minnesota will acquire Oklahoma City's 2018 first round pick from Utah, which is top-14 protected.

With George Hill's future with the Jazz uncertain, trading for Rubio would give Utah protection against losing him.

The Jazz have cap space to absorb Rubio's deal.

Zach Lowe of ESPN reports Hill is likely to leave the Jazz.

With Minnesota trading away Rubio, they're expected to be active on the free agent point guard market with Kyle Lowry, Jeff Teague, George Hill and Jrue Holiday as options.

Source: Gar Forman 'Flat-Out Lied' To Jimmy Butler Before Trade

Jun 29, 2017 3:37 PM

Gar Forman lied to Jimmy Butler in the days leading up to the Chicago Bulls trade of him to the Minnesota Timberwolves and even continued to do so minutes before the deal was completed, according to a source.

“[Forman] knows what he said,’’ the source said. “Flat-out lied. That’s just who he is. Travelle [Gaines] hit it on the head.’’

Butler's trainer Gaines' Tweeted out a message condemning the Bulls' front office after the trade was announced.

“0-82. Worst culture in the league. I met drug dealers with better morals then their GM. He is a liar and everyone knows,’ wrote Gaines.

In the week since Butler's trade to the Wolves, there's been criticism coming out of Chicago about him.

“It’s not frustrating,’’ Butler said when introduced to the Minnesota media. “It’s expected. Somebody’s gotta take the blame. I’ll be that guy, I’m OK with it. Everybody is entitled to their opinion, but with that being said my phone is in my back pocket right now, if whoever has anything to say to me feel free … 773-899-6071. So if you want an interview, there you have it, please do."

Paul Millsap Has Discussed Sign-And-Trade With Hawks

Jun 29, 2017 6:30 PM

Paul Millsap is unlikely to return to the Atlanta Hawks this offseason as they pivot towards a rebuild with Travis Schlenk as general manager. Schlenk has suggested multiple times in the media that they may not be able to offer a contract to Millsap that beats a rival team.

The Hawks and Millsap have mutual interest in a sign-and-trade scenario.

"I know sign-and-trade discussions have already happened involving Millsap and the Hawks," said Brian Windhorst on The Basketball Analogy podcast.

The Houston Rockets have interest in signing Millsap and a sign-and-trade deal would help facilitate a move since they are short on cap space at present. The Rockets have been searching for a Ryan Anderson trade, but teams are requesting two first round picks to take on his salary.

Millsap could still sign outright with a team such as the Phoenix Suns, Denver Nuggets or Minnesota Timberwolves.

John Gambadoro of 98.7 in Phoenix reports Millsap will meet with the Suns at the start of free agency.

Wolves, Spurs, Clippers, 76ers, Magic, Nets, Jazz To Pursue Andre Iguodala

Jun 27, 2017 4:57 PM

The Minnesota Timberwolves, San Antonio Spurs, Los Angeles Clippers, Philadelphia 76ers, Orlando Magic, Brooklyn Nets and Utah Jazz are among the teams that will pursue Andre Iguodala in free agency.

The Golden State Warriors still hope to re-sign Iguodala and it is not yet known whether Iguodala will take meetings with rival teams. Iguodala joined the Warriors on a four-year, $48 million deal in 2013.

If the Jazz lose Gordon Hayward, they are expected to make Iguodala their top priority.

Shaun Livingston is another free agent the Warriors would like to re-sign.

Wolves Continue To Explore Trading Ricky Rubio

Jun 26, 2017 11:41 AM

The Minnesota Timberwolves continue to pursue a trade of Ricky Rubio.

The Wolves would like to add more shooting at the point guard position. With Andrew Wiggins and Jimmy Butler on the wings, Rubio is an awkward fit due to his inability to space the floor.

Rubio has two more seasons remaining on his current deal and will become a free agent in 2019.

Wolves Wouldn't Have Traded For Jimmy Butler Without Pick Swap

Jun 23, 2017 10:38 PM

The Minnesota Timberwolves didn't give up a draft pick in their trade for Jimmy Butler, merely swapping No. 7 with the Chicago Bulls for No. 16, while also sending out Zach LaVine and Kris Dunn.

"We didn't want to lose our draft choice," said owner Glen Taylor. "We really thought, as it turned out, moving down a number of notches didn't affect us too much. We still got a young guy (Justin Patton) with a lot of potential."

Taylor was asked whether the Wolves would have still done the deal if the Bulls insisted on keeping their pick at No. 16.

"No, we told them that would break the deal," said Taylor.

Taylor also suggested the Wolves may have selected Lauri Markkanen at No. 7.

Nuggets Were Unwilling To Include Jamal Murray In Jimmy Butler Trade Talks

Jun 23, 2017 4:27 PM

The Denver Nuggets discussed a Jimmy Butler trade with the Chicago Bulls, but were unwilling to include Jamal Murray in any deal.

Murray was one of the league's better rookies last season and is part of Denver's core around Nikola Jokic.

Denver also had concerns about the possibility of Butler leaving in 2019 when he can become a free agent.

Chicago instead traded Butler to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Wolves Suggest Ricky Rubio Won't Be Traded

Jun 23, 2017 4:23 PM

The Minnesota Timberwolves have shopped Ricky Rubio in trade talks throughout the tenure of Tom Thibodeau and Scott Layden, but their decision to trade away Kris Dunn and Zach LaVine for Jimmy Butler may change that position.

The Wolves may need to keep Rubio, who is on an affordable contract, if they are unable to sign a point guard in free agency.

"He's going to have a great career here," said Layden the day after the Butler trade.

Minnesota was encouraged by how Rubio played in the second half of the season where he had a PER of 20.4 after the break compared to 15.1 as well as a True Shooting Percentage of .553 compared to .529..

Rubio is one of the NBA's better defensive point guards, but his lack of shooting is problematic due to the ball dominance of Butler and Andrew Wiggins.
