Wolves Interested In Trading For Clint Capela

Jun 20, 2022 12:22 PM

The Minnesota Timberwolves have discussed trades around a number of centers including Clint Capela.

Capela signed a two-year, $46 million extension with the Atlanta Hawks during the 20-21 season. The Hawks are expected to be one of the more active teams this offseason as they look to reshape their roster after a disappointing follow-up to their Conference Finals appearance in 2021.

Capela would give the Wolves an upgrade at center and would pair nicely with Karl-Anthony Towns, who can stretch the floor at power forward.

Timberwolves Hire Dell Demps For Front Office Role

Jun 9, 2022 4:46 PM

The Minnesota Timberwolves continued to remake their front office under new president of basketball operations Tim Connelly. The latest hire for the Wolves is longtime NBA front office executive and coach Dell Demps.

Minnesota recently hired Matt Lloyd away from the Orlando Magic to join Connelly's front office team. They've also indicated that they'll retain Sachin Gupta and Joe Branch, who were part of the pre-Connelly front office staff.

Demps was previously the general manager for the New Orleans Pelicans for nine seasons. Most recently he was working as an assistant coach under Quin Snyder with the Utah Jazz. With Snyder resigning as Jazz coach, Demps is moving to the Wolves and back over to the front office side.

Warriors Initially Sought Two Unprotected Firsts In Russell For Wiggins Trade

Jun 7, 2022 5:21 PM

The Golden State Warriors' trade of D'Angelo Russell for Andrew Wiggins and the pick that became Jonathan Kuminga was a long time coming when it was executed early in 2020.

"The rumors were around, almost even in that summer [of 2019]," Wiggins recalls. "I was prepared for anything."

The agents for Wiggins pressed Bob Myers behind the scenes on whether the Warriors were interested in him as a player or as salary fodder for a trade down the line. Myers insisted they liked Wiggins.

"There were months of conversations," Myers says. "Probably as much as any trade I've ever done."

The Warriors initially asked Minnesota for two unprotected first-round picks and two second-rounders. Gersson Rosas briefly cut off talks because he viewed the Golden State demands as overaggressive. Myers relented on the two first rounders if it was unprotected. The two sides haggled for a few more days before agreeing to a top-3 protection.

Tim Connelly Plans To Hire More People From Outside Wolves Organization

Jun 4, 2022 1:03 PM

Tim Connelly said that he plans to hire more people from outside the Minnesota Timberwolves organization to help build out his staff following the hire of Matt Lloyd as Senior Vice President of Basketball Operations.

Lloyd was hired from the Magic.

Connelly inherited a staff that included Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Sachin Gupta, assistant general managers Joe Branch, Manny Rohan and Steve Senior, as well as head coach Chris Finch.

Lloyd's focus on scouting is significant for the Wolves, with the team parting ways with assistant GM Gianluca Pascucci this offseason.

Pascucci previously ran the draft for the team.

“This is a difficult time to join a team. The draft prep is in full swing, and I’ve been largely absent for a myriad of reasons, so I kind of want to be a fly on the wall. I feel pretty confident – I really like to scout and watch games – so this is one of my favorite times as we approach next week, so I can’t wait to get into some heated, spirited debates about who we should take, what should we do with the pick," added Connelly.
