Eric Gordon admitted to having cartilage damage in his right knee. Hornets officials had only disclosed that a surgical procedure was performed to clean up his right knee.
“First off, you can label it as a bone bruise, or say so,’’ Gordon said. “Of course, it was a little more serious than that. It was a little bit of cartilage damage that came about, but nothing more serious than that.”
Gordon has not played since Jan. 4 and is expected to miss at least five more weeks.
“I had a little cartilage debris,” Gordon said. “That happens when you have damage to a cartilage, and that was that — and I needed it. I’ve never had surgery before. All you can do is listen to the doctors as far as moving forward, and I know the timing sucked, but no one knew how serious it was. We went through multiple doctors, and the only way we could find out is (to) go in there.’’
The New Orleans Hornets have signed guard Donald Sloan to a second 10-day contract.
Sloan, a Texas A&M University product, was originally signed by New Orleans on February 8th and has appeared in three games, averaging 4.0 points, 2.7 assists and 1.0 rebounds in just under 14 minutes per game. Sloan previously appeared in five regular season games with the Atlanta Hawks this season before being released on January 27. The Hornets are not shopping Chris Kaman, but would be open to trading him in the right deal, sources say.
New Orleans took Kaman off the trading block in early February, but with the March 15 trade deadline looming, sources say the team has resumed trade discussions.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen in the future or what’s going to happen in the next five days,’’ Kaman said. “I don’t know if there will be a trade or won’t be one. I just play and try not to worry about it, but it does stress me out a little bit. I go home at night and have some rough nights sleeping once in awhile thinking about it, but it’s out of my control.
“I think I’ve shown for eight years what I’m capable of doing.’’
The Hornets are looking for young talent and expiring contracts.

Eric Gordon underwent successful arthroscopic surgery to clean up his right knee on Tuesday morning. As anticipated, he will be out approximately six weeks
Gordon sustained the injury to his knee in the first quarter of the team’s opening game in Phoenix on 12/26/11.
The New Orleans Hornets announced Eric Gordon will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right knee on Tuesday.
The surgery is needed to fully resolve an injury that was sustained earlier in the season during a Hornets game. After that point it did not fully heal with treatment and rest. The doctors expect that Gordon will be fully recovered and able to return to playing in up to six weeks.
“After consulting with our medical staff, we concluded that surgery was the best route and in the best interest of Eric for the long term. We had hoped with rest and rehab, Eric's knee would have healed.” General Manager Dell Demps said. “Eric is eager to return to the court and we are confident Hornet Fans will get to see him soon.”
He sustained the injury to his knee in the first quarter of the team’s opening game in Phoenix on 12/26.
