Jacque Vaughn has withdrawn his name from consideration for available head coaching opportunities and will remain with the Brooklyn Nets as an assistant coach.

Vaughn was considered one of the frontrunners for the New Orleans Pelicans' job.

Vaughn is citing family reasons for the decision to remain with the Nets.

The candidacy of Jacque Vaughn as head coach of the New Orleans Pelicans is "gaining traction", according to ESPN's Brian Windhorst.

Vaughn was previously head coach of the Orlando Magic and has been an assistant coach with the Brooklyn Nets since 2016.

"I'm not saying he's going to get his job because Charles Lee on the Bucks' staff is also going to be a strong candidate. The word coming out of Chicago at the draft combine is that Jacque Vaughn, who is close to Trajan Langdon... Jacque Vaughn is going to get a real serious look and has interviewed I believe with the Pelicans."

The Nets have already lost Ime Udoka from their coaching staff to the Brooklyn Nets. Mike D'Antoni is also a candidate for the Portland Trail Blazers' head coaching job.

The New Orleans Pelicans have requested permission to interview Jacque Vaughn and Charles Lee for their head coaching position.

Vaughn has been an assistant coach with the Brooklyn Nets since 2016. Vaughn was previously a head coach with the Orlando Magic.

Lee has worked as an assistant coach under Mike Budenholzer since 2014. 

The New Orleans Pelicans are the NBA franchise most frequently mentioned to possibly seek relocation this decade.

The Pelicans' existing lease runs through 2024.

The franchise is owned by Gayle Benson, who also owns the New Orleans Saints. Benson is deeply connected to New Orleans and not currently interested in selling.

New Orleans has not been one of the NBA's most lucrative markets or with a large fanbase.

Even if the NBA expands to markets such as Seattle or Las Vegas, relocation could be a threat as markets like Kansas City and Louisville have sought a franchise. 

The New Orleans Pelicans will try to trade either Eric Bledsoe, Steven Adams or both this offseason.

The Pelicans acquired both players last offseason. Bledsoe was already on what is viewed as a negative contract. Adams was extended by the Pelicans.

The two players will make a combined $35 million next season.

Certain family members of Zion Williamson want to see him on another team, sources tell The Athletic. The New Orleans Pelicans have missed the playoffs in each of Williamson's first two seasons in the NBA and the team will have a third head coach three years.

Sources from around the league have "pointed to the Pelicans as a heap of dysfunction."

Williamson's family has expressed thinly veiled unhappiness with the Pelicans and there are questions whether those have become his own. Williamson's family members voiced displeasure with Stan Van Gundy, who they thought was too rigid and demanding as head coach. They also felt like the organization did not live up to the standard for a star like Williamson. 

Williamson remains focused on basketball and helping the Pelicans win next season.

Williamson was also irritated by the decision to trade J.J. Redick.

Brandon Ingram and Stan Van Gundy had a strained relationship throughout the 20-21 season, sources tell Christian Clark of The Times-Picayune.

The Pelicans fired Van Gundy as head coach of the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday. 

Ingram was an All-Star and the Most Improved Player in the league in 19-20. Ingram subsequently signed a five-year, $158 million deal with the Pelicans in restricted free agency.

The New Orleans Pelicans have parted ways with Stan Van Gundy as head coach.

The Pelicans fired Alvin Gentry and hired Van Gundy after the 19-20 season.

The Pelican had a 31-41 record and were largely out of the play-in picture.

Sources tell Christian Clark of The Times-Picayune that Van Gundy and Brandon Ingram had a strained relationship throughout the season. 

Teresa Weatherspoon and Fred Vinson are expected to be serious candidates for the job, according to Kevin O'Connor of The Ringer. ESPN reports that Jacque Vaughn, Ime Udoka, Charles Lee and Jason Kidd will also be considered. 

Josh Hart will be a restricted free agent this offseason and sources tell the Cleveland Plain Dealer that he would like a "fresh start" after two seasons with the New Orleans Pelicans.

Hart averaged 9.2 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 28.7 minutes per game last season with the Pelicans.

The Pelicans acquired Hart as part of the 2019 Anthony Davis trade. 

The Cleveland Cavaliers could have interest in Hart, who is close friends with Larry Nance Jr.
