McDyess Feels No Ill Will Towards New York in Tonight's Return to NYC

Dec 15, 2004 12:03 PM

Detroit Pistons forward Antonio McDyess is listed as a "game-time decision" for tonight's matchup with the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden, but the former Knick is pretty certain he's going to be out there.

"I am definitely waiting to see how it reacts (today), but for me, it's not a game-time decision," said McDyess, who has missed the past five games with a slight tear in his left calf muscle. "I want to play. It's just up to Coach (Larry Brown) and the trainers. But in my head, I am playing."

As for a chance to show Knicks President Isiah Thomas what he gave up by trading him to the Phoenix Suns last year in the deal that netted the team local favorite Stephon Marbury, McDyess said he has no agenda.

"There's nothing really to talk about," he said. "I had some good times there and definitely a lot of bad times related to basketball. I kind of enjoyed it when I did play, but things didn't work out. They changed management and had to have a different look."

McDyess has said publicly that he was never made to feel part of the plan once Thomas took over. He said the two never had a conversation and he knew it was only a matter of time before he was dealt.

But he said he's well over that now.

"It's just another game to me," he said. "Like I said, I only played a month or two and it seems like nothing really came out of that. I was still in a rehab stage when I did come back, so revenge isn't anything that's going to be there."

He's not even sure his return will make a ripple at Madison Square Garden.

"I don't think I will get any reaction," he said. "I think they barely seen what I can do, so it doesn't really matter."

Carter To Knicks Gains Steam As December 15th Approaches

Dec 14, 2004 2:51 PM

According to Bill Harris of Canoe, the Knicks and Raptors continue to talk seriously about a multi-player transaction that would send Vince Carter, Jalen Rose and one or two more players to the Garden for Allan Houston, Tim Thomas, Jerome Williams and one or two other players.

Some draft picks and cash might be exchanged as well.

Trade talks are heating up, since December 15th is the first day many player may be traded.

Stephon Marbury appears to be the only player on the Knicks roster who is untouchable, but while Nazr Mohammed and Jamal Crawford may be acquired if the Knicks received a knock out offer Thomas appears to be reluctant to trade either player.

Malone To Possibly Sign With The Spurs?

Dec 13, 2004 9:41 AM

The NY Times is reporting that Knicks' officials have stated: they expect Free Agent Forward Karl Malone to sign with the San Antonio Spurs. Malone coming off of knee surgery ruled out a return to the Lakers (ironically the team he choose over the Spurs 2 summers ago), after comments by Kobe Bryant have escalated into a verbal-media showdown.

Thomas recently called Malone to inquire about his available services, but was turned down, as Malone intends to sign with a contender, and the Spurs appear to be closing in on winning that race, which also includes the Heat (where he could reunite with former teammate Shaq), and the Timberwolves. Camby on NY: 'I Wish I Was Still Here'

Dec 13, 2004 3:45 AM

With Marcus Camby's return to New York on Sunday came questions of whether he still wishes he played for the Knicks.

"Myself, I wish I was still here," Camby said before the Nuggets' 107-96 loss yesterday at the Garden. "I know Spree wishes he was here. We were New York City type of guys. Our styles, our games fit in well here.

"We have a mutual respect for each other," Camby said of his relationship with Thomas. "If Isiah had been here during the time I got traded, I think I'd still be here."

Tim Thomas Downplays Facing Martin

Dec 12, 2004 7:13 AM

Despite a full offseason of angry words directed at now-Nugget Kenyon Martin, Tim Thomas now gets his chance to back up his talk with action.  That said, however, do not expect any fireworks according to the Newark Star-Ledger.

"There's been words, but I don't expect anything," Thomas said. "I just expect a good, competitive basketball game. I mean, my job is cut out enough, having to guard Carmelo (Anthony)."

Asked Friday if he regretted anything he said last spring, Thomas said no.

"You guys know me," he told a small group of reporters before the Knicks played Washington Friday. "Anything that comes out of my mouth is the truth -- or, it's the way I feel, put it like that. So come Sunday, I'm just looking forward to a competitive basketball game."
