Barkley: LeBron Would Only Leave For New York

Apr 29, 2020 11:22 AM

Charles Barkley believes the only place LeBron James would leave Cleveland for is New York, and seemed to say that James would take another maximum-salary free-agent with him.

Barkley also thinks it would be easy to convince players to join Dwyane Wade in the warm weather of Miami.

"Being in Miami, I think it's easy to persuade someone to come down there. I think you've got to figure out who's going be free. But first of all, everything revolves around LeBron. That's first and foremost," Barkley said in an interview. "Because if LeBron goes somewhere, he's going to take somebody with him if he goes to New York. I mean he's going to take somebody.

"But like if they [Miami] got Chris Bosh, somebody like that, they'd be a much, much better team. They've got to get some big guys. They're a small team. Haslem, Jermaine, they're good players, Beasley - they're little guys. Miami's got a very small team. They've got to get much bigger quickly."

Rockets Target Chris Bosh, Raptors Interested In Jordan Hill

Apr 29, 2020 11:22 AM

Sources say the Rockets' primary free-agent target is still Chris Bosh.

Houston would have to arrange a sign-and-trade deal with Toronto.

The Raptors are reportedly intrigued by Jordan Hill, whom the Rockets acquired from New York on trade deadline day in February.  The Knicks made the deal to clear their second maximum-salary contract slot, which could be offered to Bosh.

Brad Miller Says He Won't Be Going To New York

Apr 28, 2010 4:41 PM

Bulls center Brad Miller will be a free agent this summer, and he is already ruling out one potential destination.

"I'm not going to New York," Miller said after Chicago was eliminated from the playoffs by Cleveland.

Miller said a two-year deal with a third-year player option would be ideal and the Bulls could re-sign him for the right price.

"This is definitely one of the teams on my small list that I'm very interested in," Miller said of the Bulls. "But I'm in a good situation and realistic about my worth. I'm not worried about having to chase money. I can go to the situation that's best for me.

"I've had security for a long time. I'm assuming there will be interest but you never know."

Haywood May Be Too Pricey For Knicks

Apr 21, 2010 3:50 PM

With Marcus Camby coming off the market, the Knicks will have to look elsewhere for a center.

Brendan Haywood is expected to be the best center on the free agent market this offseason, but the New York Post points out that he may be too expensive for the Knicks.

New York has $34 million in cap space, but they want to do a lot with their space -- like signing two superstars to multi-year deals.

Brad Miller has been mentioned as another possibility.

Knicks Would Like To Keep Walker

Apr 20, 2010 2:47 PM

The Knicks consider Bill Walker a "good candidate" to return to the team next season.

Walker's contract will be guaranteed if he's still on the team after Aug. 1.

"We like what we've seen," Knicks president Donnie Walsh said. "If he shows he can put in the work this summer, he's a good candidate depending how everything goes."

New York coach Mike D'Antoni admitted that he didn't know too much about Walker before he landed with the club.

"He was very good in the sense that I didn't know anything and didn't know him," the coach said. "But I thought he played very well. He showed an ability to shoot the ball really well. He shot over 40 percent from three and was not afraid to take the big shot. I think he has a good feel for the game."

Knicks May Turn To Brad Miller At Center

Apr 20, 2010 8:07 AM

If the Trail Blazers sign Marcus Camby to an extension before he hits the free agent market, the Knicks may be forced to turn their attention towards Brad Miller.

New York is in desperate need of a center and Miller could be their next target, according to a league source.

ESPN reported on Monday that Portland is close to agreeing to a two-year, $20 million extension with Camby, who is New York's first choice.

Knicks president Donnie Walsh acquired Miller for the Pacers back in 2001 and he made an All-Star Game in 2003 before he went to Sacramento.

Curry Hopes Knicks Waive Him, Won't Accept Buyout

Apr 17, 2010 10:04 AM

Knicks center Eddy Curry told the New York Post that he hopes the team waives him if he's not a part of their future.

Curry added that he wouldn't take less money simply to go away.

"I'm not taking a buyout, so that's not happening," Curry said. "Definitely not. They can try to trade me if they wanted to. I hope it doesn't come to that.

"But I would just hope that if it came down to it, especially going into a contract year, that if [coach Mike D'Antoni] knows this wasn't the right place for me, they would make the right decision. Other than that, I'll do everything I can to be ready."

D'Antoni: Making Playoffs Will Be Hard Without A Big-Time Player

Apr 16, 2010 4:46 PM

Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni realizes that it will be hard for the team to make the playoffs next season if they don't add a top-level free agent.

"You will be asking someone else, 'How are you going to get back to the playoffs?' " D'Antoni said. "That's probably what will happen."

For two years D'Antoni has coached the Knicks with the expectation that things would get better in the summer of 2010, with players like LeBron James and Dwyane Wade hitting the market.
