Carmelo Anthony Will Consider Family First When Dealing With Possible Trade

Jan 31, 2017 4:07 PM

Carmelo Anthony will only approve a trade from the New York Knicks if it is right for his family.

Anthony enjoys playing and living in New York and cited his family as a reason why he re-signed with the Knicks in 2014.

"That's more about what I care about, my family," he said early Tuesday. "My son being comfortable in New York at an age now where he's really getting an opportunity to understand being in New York and having a home there and having friends there.

"My wife working there and having opportunities there. … I think about that more so than my decision for my career. At the end of the day, it will come down to my decision. But I think more about my decision and what they're going to have to go through if anything would happen."

Anthony has denied providing Phil Jackson a wish list of teams he would approve a trade to.

"I haven't told anybody anything," Anthony said. "I haven't had that conversation with anybody."

Jeff Hornacek: Carmelo Anthony Has Control Of Trade Situation

Jan 30, 2017 11:38 AM

Jeff Hornacek acknowledged the reality of Carmelo Anthony trade rumors as he holds a no-trade clause.

Anthony has been linked to trade talks with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Clippers.

“He has control,” Hornacek said. “Like anything else, talk is out there. He’s trying to focus on playing and helping his team win. At the end, he has the final say. He’s going to keep playing for us, and guys have to put all that stuff aside and keep playing.”

Anthony is starting to surge in recent games, blocking out the speculation despite feuding with management.

“I’m just feeling good about myself, about my body feeling healthy, being able to focus on basketball and not worried about everything else going out there,” Anthony said. “Once I’m on the court, I don’t hear that. I have to focus in a little more. When you get off the court, you have to start dealing with that. In between the lines is all about basketball.”

Knicks, Clippers Seek Third Team To Facilitate Carmelo Anthony Trade

Jan 28, 2017 3:27 AM

The New York Knicks and Los Angeles Clippers are seeking a third team to help facilitate a trade involving Carmelo Anthony.

The Knicks are willing to trade Anthony without any of the Clippers' Big 3 of Chris Paul, DeAndre Jordan or Blake Griffin in return.

New York is reluctant to absorb the three years and $42 million left on Jamal Crawford's contract after this season. The Clippers are hesitant to trade away J.J. Redick.

The Clippers are also hard-capped this season, which would make it difficult for the club to deal with the 15 percent trade kicker in Anthony's contract that would add nearly $10 million to his 2016-17 season if he's dealt.

The market for Anthony thus far has been tepid, sources said, partly due to the extremely limited number of teams it is believed he'd be willing to join.

Knicks Open To Dealing Carmelo Anthony To Clippers Without One Of Big 3 In Return

Jan 26, 2017 2:19 PM

The New York Knicks are open to trading Carmelo Anthony to the Los Angeles Clippers in a package that does not include Chris Paul, DeAndre Jordan or Blake Griffin.

The Knicks technically cannot even trade for Griffin because a team cannot have two Designated Rookie Max extensions on a roster acquired via a trade at any time. Derrick Rose falls under that category as Griffin does.

The Clippers would have to trade approximately $27 million in salary to fit Anthony under their cap.

A Clippers' deal for Anthony would likely include one or even two players from the group of Jamal Crawford, J.J. Redick or Austin Rivers.

On Wednesday, Anthony told reporters that management has not discussed any potential deals with him.

Phil Jackson Determined To Trade Carmelo Anthony, Reaches Out To Celtics, Clippers

Jan 26, 2017 1:03 PM

In addition to the Cleveland Cavaliers, the New York Knicks reached out to the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Clippers in regards to a Carmelo Anthony trade.

Phil Jackson is determined to find a destination and deal that Anthony would agree to accept before the Feb. 23 NBA trade deadline.

Jackson wants to begin rebuilding around Kristaps Porzingis.

The Clippers are a team that would interest Anthony.

Anthony makes $24.6 million this season and has $54 million remaining over the next two years of his contract. His deal includes a 15 percent trade kicker and a player option for the 2018-19 season.

Knicks Approached Cavs On Carmelo Anthony For Kevin Love Trade

Jan 25, 2017 4:36 PM

The New York Knicks unsuccessfully tried to engage the Cleveland Cavaliers on a trade centered on Carmelo Anthony for Kevin Love.

The Cavaliers told New York they were not interested in Anthony.

The Knicks would have approached Anthony about waiving his no-trade clause had the Cavaliers expressed interest in the deal.

Although LeBron James and Anthony are incredibly close and have both expressed interest in playing together someday, sources say Cleveland is not prepared to surrender Love to get Anthony.

Asked specifically about his theoretical willingness to play in Cleveland, Anthony said: "I don't think about it -- [that's] not something I think about right now. As far as playing with him, I don't think about that. I can't think about that. You know I'm not thinking about that."

Anthony is earning $24.6 million this season and has two years left on his Knicks contract worth nearly $54 million.

Carmelo Anthony's Camp Believes Phil Jackson Trying To Get Him To Waive No-Trade

Jan 23, 2017 10:52 AM

People close to Carmelo Anthony believe some of the constant sniping from Phil Jackson has been a way to get him to waive his no-trade clause with the New York Knicks.

Anthony holds the no-trade clause from his new contract signed in 2014 worth $124.9 million over five seasons. Anthony also has a 15 percent trade kicker.

Jackson held an interview a month ago in which he complained about Anthony stopping ball for too long on offense. More recently, Jackson confidant Charley Rosen wrote an article praising Jackson and critical of Anthony.

During their meeting last week, Anthony reiterated to Jackson he wants to remain with the Knicks.

“I don’t know. I’m done kind of worrying about that,” Anthony said. “My only focus is these guys that’s in this locker room, playing with them. I can’t control anything else.”

Carmelo Anthony Glad He Protected Himself With No-Trade Clause

Jan 18, 2017 1:37 PM

Carmelo Anthony and Phil Jackson met to clear the air on Tuesday, but his future with the New York Knicks remains uncertain.

"The conversation wasn't that long," Anthony said at the Knicks morning shootaround in Boston. "We didn't break bread. We didn't have an hour's conversation. It was a short conversation."

"You get tired of it," Anthony later added when asked if he has grown weary of answering questions pertaining to Jackson and himself. "You get tired of it. I have to face you all every day. I'm the one that got to have all the answers. I'm the one that got to kind of make up something. Even when I don't want to talk to you all I still talk to you all. It happens. That's part of the job."

Anthony, however, said there's a reason why he has a no-trade clause.

He reiterated that he plans to remain in New York.

"I think, as players, you always want to protect yourself," Anthony said when asked if he foresaw this situation with Jackson when he had a no-trade clause put in his contract. "I didn't think it would get to this point. I think, as a player, if you can get that (no-trade clause), you have a right to protect yourself and take care of yourself when it comes to that. It's very hard to get, very difficult to get. I have it and that's that.

"I'm committed (to staying). I don't have to prove that to anybody. I don't think I have to keep saying that. I don't think I have to keep talking about that. I know for a fact that people see that."

Anthony said he is "numb" to the amount of drama that has followed him this season.

"Yeah, I'm numb. It's water off my back at this point," said Anthony, who repeatedly said he doesn't want to be a distraction to his teammates. "... That (Karl) situation, we all know what that was about. He was trying to sell something. In this situation you almost have to pay a little bit closer attention to it because you have to deal with it on a day-to-day basis.

"Other than (that), I'm fine, man. I'm good mentally. I'm good. Trust me."

Some Within Knicks' Organization Believe Carmelo Anthony Should Be Traded

Jan 17, 2017 4:58 PM

Phil Jackson asked Carmelo Anthony if he would like to remain with the New York Knicks during their meeting on Tuesday.

Anthony reaffirmed his desire to remain with New York.

Several members of the organization believe that it's best for the Knicks and Anthony to part ways at this point, league sources told ESPN's Ian Begley.

Anthony has a full no-trade clause.

One source described the meeting as far more contentious than previous sit-downs between Jackson and Anthony.

No specific trades were discussed, sources said, as both sides left the meeting to take time to process the situation and wait on Anthony's answer as to whether he wants to remain with the Knicks or accept a trade elsewhere.
