Wolves Interested In Signing Derrick Rose

May 24, 2017 12:55 PM

The Minnesota Timberwolves have interest in signing Derrick Rose in free agency.

Rose played for Tom Thibodeau for several seasons with the Chicago Bulls. The New York Knicks and Wolves discussed a Rose for Ricky Rubio trade in February. Minnesota also drafted Kris Dunn last June.

Rose is coming off a meniscus tear in his left knee that required season-ending surgery.

Rose and his agent, B.J. Armstrong, have both stated that they'd be open to re-signing with the Knicks.

The San Antonio Spurs could also have interest in signing Rose.

Knicks Decide Against Renew Contract Of Josh Longstaff

May 22, 2017 12:38 PM

The New York Knicks have decided not to renew the contract of assistant coach Josh Longstaff.

Longstaff initially joined the Knicks with Derek Fisher and was one of the few remaining holdovers.

Longstaff had formed a strong connection with multiple current players, most notably Kristaps Porzingis. The bond between Porzingis and Longstaff was so strong that he was requested to serve as an assistant on the Latvian national team this summer.

One member called Longstaff the hardest working member of the staff.

Longstaff was a player development coach with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

76ers, Nets, Knicks Interested In J.J. Redick

May 18, 2017 2:32 AM

The Brooklyn Nets, New York Knicks and Philadelphia 76ers all have interest in J.J. Redick in free agency.

While the Los Angeles Clippers have interest in re-signing Redick, media reports have consistently indicated he's their free agent most likely to sign elsewhere.

The 76ers are the team said to be most interested in Redick.

“Brooklyn, the Knicks are teams that have interest in Redick. We'll see how far they're willing to pay,” said Adrian Wojnarowski.

Redick has been connected to the Knicks with the possibility of the Clippers revisiting trade talks for Carmelo Anthony.

Phil Jackson: We're Good At What We Do

May 17, 2017 3:20 AM

Phil Jackson had a measured response to the New York Knicks dropping down to No. 8 in the lottery.

"Our opportunity [at] seven could have been 10, so eight we'll live with," Jackson said. "I think that we're good at what we do."

The Knicks last picked eighth when they selected Jordan Hill after targeting Stephen Curry.

The Knicks won four out of their final nine games to drop from the fourth worst record to tied with the Wolves for sixth. They then lost a tiebreaker with the Wolves to finish in the seventh spot.

Jackson reiterated that the club has a void to fill at guard and wing.

Rival Execs: Phil Jackson Harming Carmelo Anthony's Trade Value

May 15, 2017 2:16 AM

Executives of other NBA teams have been baffled by the way Phil Jackson has spoken publicly about the status of Carmelo Anthony with the New York Knicks.

With Anthony possessing a no-trade clause, Jackson has appeared to antagonize him into leaving the Knicks via trade.

“Phil made a statement basically that Carmelo’s a losing type of player. Well, if he’s a loser for the Knicks, he’s going to be a winner someplace else? That obviously didn’t help,” one Eastern Conference executive said.

“Tremendously,” another exec said when asked how much Jackson may have damaged Anthony’s trade value. “He essentially said, ‘I want to dump this guy.’ ”

Jackson spoke in negative terms about Anthony at the end of the regular season and again at the combine.

“Most owners would just roast you if you said something like that,” the Eastern exec said, theorizing the return for Anthony could be a protected first-round pick.

The Los Angeles Clippers, Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics have most been mentioned as possible trade partners for Anthony.

“People have done their homework and watched Carmelo and how he interacts and plays,” the first Eastern exec said. “Carmelo obviously needs a change of scenery, probably does a better job in a different city, but you’ve got to look at how he would fit. But I don’t think people are going to break the bank and give New York what they initially want.

“Carmelo can fit in with anybody with the right role. Hell, he’s a talented guy. Not many guys can score like him, but he’s not the All-Star he was. He’s a very talented player and if he goes to the right team and they tell him what role they’d like him to play, he could figure it out. … He has to accept, ‘OK, I’m not going to be the star, but I can play off a couple guys.’ ”

Phil Jackson Would Like Carmelo Anthony 'To Have Success Somewhere'

May 13, 2017 3:00 AM

Phil Jackson continued his public campaign for Carmelo Anthony to accept a trade while speaking at the draft combine.

Anthony has a full no-trade clause, which complicates the New York Knicks' position.

"We'd like him to have success,"Jackson said. "The opportunity is narrowing. We'd just like him to have success somewhere. We're not going to be there. Hopefully, we'll be maybe a playoff team next year. It would be tough to consider us a possible champion."

Jackson said last month that he believed Anthony would be "better off somewhere else" to pursue a championship.

"He has a no-trade contract," Jackson said Friday when asked if he wanted Anthony back with the Knicks next season. "I think I expressed what I felt. I can't express it any better. I thought it was well-said, even though a lot of you didn't feel quite that way."

Jackson said he sent some text messages to Anthony but hasn't spoken to him since the season ended.

"[General manager] Steve [Mills] has," Jackson said. "I know I've reached out to him in the text but not personally."

Kristaps Porzingis Wants To Remain With Knicks

May 11, 2017 10:09 AM

The brother of Kristaps Porzingis said he wants the New York Knicks to create an environment that fosters player development and winning.

Janis Porzingis is a certified agent who works for Andy Miller, agent of record for Porzingis.

"Kris wants to stay in New York; he feels at home there. There is no question about it. The only thing he wants is for the Knicks to create an environment where he can develop and grow as a player and win," Janis Porzingis said in an interview with ESPN. "If he were traded, he would play out his contract and head into free agency, where he can choose his own destiny."

The Knicks received interest from teams about a trade for Porzingis after he skipped their exit meetings.

Porzingis said there was confusion from "top to bottom" due to multiple changes in schemes by Jeff Hornacek.
