Knicks Never Even Offered Minimum Deal To Derrick Rose

Jul 31, 2017 10:36 AM

The New York Knicks never offered Derrick Rose even a contract at the veteran's minimum.

Rose signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers on a one-year, $2.1 million deal. Rose spent one season with the Knicks.

The Knicks drafted Frank Ntilikina in June as their point guard of the future.

“Did we miss something?,” Rose’s agent B.J. Armstrong asked The Post. “Is there something going [on] in New York we didn’t see? We all would agree they are on a different timeline than Derrick — a young team with great young talent there and trying to build something for the future. They’re not on the same timeline as players who are a little older and experienced.

“It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out Derrick’s best basketball is right now. The Knicks aren’t ready to compete at that level right now. It could be three, four years.”

Rose is coming off his fourth surgery after playing 64 games with the Knicks.

Spurs, Clippers, Suns, Wolves, Knicks, Heat Make Offers For Kyrie Irving

Jul 28, 2017 8:53 AM

There were approximately 20 teams who made inquiries to the Cleveland Cavaliers upon learning of Kyrie Irving's trade requests but far fewer have delivered legitimate proposals.

The San Antonio Spurs, Los Angeles Clippers, Phoenix Suns, Minnesota Timberwolves, New York Knicks and Miami Heat have made offers to the Cavaliers for Irving.

The Cavaliers are seeking a package similar to what the Denver Nuggets received for Carmelo Anthony in 2011. Denver acquired a combination of young players, win-now veterans and draft picks. Rival teams are instead looking at what the Wolves gave up for Jimmy Butler.

Koby Altman is taking a measured approach to negotiations.

"I'll say this about [Altman]," one rival GM interested in Irving told ESPN. "He isn't overwhelmed. He's showing real poise."

Carmelo Anthony Continues To Prioritize Trade To Rockets

Jul 26, 2017 9:58 AM

Carmelo Anthony continues to place the Houston Rockets as his top priority trade destination despite Kyrie Irving's request for a trade.

The Cleveland Cavaliers presumably have a clearer path to trading for Anthony due to the Irving request, but Anthony prefers the Rockets.

Some in the Knicks organization would trade Anthony and multiple first-round picks for Irving.

With the Rockets trading for Chris Paul and James Harden already signing an extension, their situation is more stable and attractive for Anthony than the Cavaliers.

Carmelo Anthony, Thunder Have Mutual Interest

Jul 24, 2017 9:32 PM

The Oklahoma City Thunder could be a trade candidate for Carmelo Anthony.

Anthony has a full no-trade clause with the New York Knicks and has preferred a trade to the Houston Rockets or Cleveland Cavaliers.

Troy Weaver helped recruit Anthony when he was an assistant coach at Syracuse. Weaver has been assistant general manager of the Thunder since the 10-11 season.

Frank Isola of the New York Daily News reports that one source doubts Anthony would play for the Thunder but he would possibly be willing to discuss it. A second source simply said "Houston" when asked about the Thunder report.

Derrick Rose Meeting With Cavaliers To Discuss One-Year, $2.1M Deal

Jul 24, 2017 10:39 AM

Derrick Rose and the Cleveland Cavaliers are meeting on Monday to discuss a one-year contract.

Rose's deal would be for one-year at the veteran's minimum of $2.1 million.

Rose met with the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday, but appears to be leaning towards joining the Cavaliers. Rose would prefer to sign with a contender to rebuild his trade value.

The Cavaliers' discussions with Rose come amid Kyrie Irving's trade request.

Knicks Interested In Trading Carmelo Anthony, Future First Picks To Cavs For Kyrie Irving

Jul 21, 2017 6:28 PM

The New York Knicks have strong interest in trading for Kyrie Irving.

New York is willing to include Carmelo Anthony and future first round picks but Kristaps Porzingis is considered untouchable.

Irving has listed the Knicks as one of the teams he would have interest in being traded to following his request to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Irving can become a free agent in 2019 and grew up in New Jersey.

Anthony has a no-trade clause and has recently preferred a trade to the Houston Rockets but he's previously expressed interest in the Cavaliers.

Carmelo Anthony Won't Waive No-Trade For Blazers

Jul 20, 2017 10:18 AM

While the Portland Trail Blazers have interest in trading for Carmelo Anthony, he won't consider waiving his no-trade clause to join them.

Anthony has been recruited by C.J. McCollum and Damian Lillard.

Anthony remains committed to ending up with the Houston Rockets or Cleveland Cavaliers while recently prioritizing the Rockets.

Steve Mills said earlier this week Anthony could remain with the team this season. The Knicks are not interested in engaging in buyout talks.

Anthony continues to expect a trade to the Rockets.

Knicks Prepared To Rebuild Under Steve Mills, Scott Perry

Jul 18, 2017 10:59 AM

Steve Mills and Scott Perry are preparing to rebuild the New York Knicks.

"We want to build a team that centers on that group of guys growing together, which may take longer to do. It will take longer to do," Mills said. "But I think it's something the fans of New York are ready for and will accept."

Carmelo Anthony will remain expendable but they're not in a rush to trade him.

"If Carmelo is with us, we will continue to develop our young players," Mills said. "If he's not here, we'll continue to develop our young players."

Perry is not concerned with the dynamic working under Mills.

"We've developed a friendship," Perry said. "And I have complete trust in (Mills). I think we're very much aligned in our thinking, so I'm really excited about the prospects of spending time and working with him."

The Knicks will presumably have Kristaps Porzingis as the center piece.
