Tom Thibodeau After Knicks Return To .500: All Wins 'Count The Same'

Feb 28, 2021 12:40 PM

Tom Thibodeau said the New York Knicks' 110-107 win over the Indiana Pacers that brought the team back to .500 for the season didn't take on any extra meaning.

The Knicks were at one point down double-digits in the game.

"One game doesn’t take on more meaning than another. They all count the same. And wherever you end up, that can be the difference between a lot of things.

So we have to understand how important each day is, have to understand how important each practice is, we have to understand how important each possession is. And so if we want to fight for things we say we want to fight for, there’s a price to pay for that, and we have to do that.”

The Knicks are currently 17-17 on the season, and are the No. 5 seed in the Eastern Conference.

Julius Randle, who finished the game with 28 points and 10 rebounds, added that he took the matchup against Domantas Sabonis personally from a competitive standpoint.

“As a competitor, sometimes there are just individual matchups that you take -- not personal like you don’t like the other guy -- just personal from a competitive standpoint. So it was that."

Knicks Considering Trade For Andre Drummond

Feb 24, 2021 10:18 PM

The New York Knicks are "analyzing" whether to make a trade for Andre Drummond, a source told Marc Berman of the New York Post.

The Cavaliers benched Drummond two weeks ago as they attempt to trade him.

The Knicks are the most flexible team to slip Drummond’s expiring $28 million contract onto their roster as they still have $15 million of cap space.

The Toronto Raptors were previously working on a deal for Drummond, but couldn't find sensical matching salaries.

The Cavaliers could agree to a buyout with Drummond if he's not traded by the deadline.

Knicks Interested In Bradley Beal, Monitoring CJ McCollum

Feb 21, 2021 12:40 PM

The New York Knicks are interested in Bradley Beal, sources confirmed to Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News.

ESPN's Michael Kay said last week that William Wesley was using backchannels to try to recruit Beal to the Knicks.

The team is also monitoring CJ McCollum, though it is unclear whether the Blazers are willing to part ways with the guard.

Marc Berman of the New York Post reported last week that the Knicks withheld Kevin Knox, Frank Ntilikina, and any first-round picks from the Derrick Rose deal to use in a potential blockbuster trade.

Members Within Knicks Feel Julius Randle Is Part Of 'Young Core' To Build Around

Feb 18, 2021 1:33 AM

Members within the New York Knicks organization feel that Julius Randle is part of the team's core for the future, sources told Ian Begley of SNY.

"There are prominent members of the Knicks organization that feel Randle is part of this young core that they’re trying to move forward with,” said Begley on The Putback wit Ian Begley.

Begley adds that he still expects the Knicks to take phone calls about Randle around the trade deadline to gauge his value.

"I’m not saying the Knicks would be motivated to make a deal based on that conversation," added Begley.

Randle has a team option for next season worth $19.8 million.

Immanuel Quickley On Playing With Derrick Rose: It's 'Like Pickup, Whoever Gets It, Gets It'

Feb 14, 2021 12:57 PM

Immanuel Quickley discussed what he's learned playing alongside Derrick Rose, saying that Rose has helped him on the defensive end.

“He’s a good shooter and can get to his spots as well. And then on defense he guards so it helps me a lot on defense, whether it be showing me something on the help side or on the ball the defense. I think he’s great on both sides of the ball," said Quickley.

The Knicks are currently outscoring opponents by 42 points with Quickley and Rose on the court together.

Quickley added that he and Rose are both able to bring up the ball, reminding him of pickup basketball.

“It’s kind of like pickup, whoever gets it, gets it. He told me if I get it, don’t look back at him, just go out and hoop and do what I do and I feel the same way for him.

"So it’s kind of like pick up. Whoever gets it, gets it. And we kind of play off each other and I feel like when you’re playing with somebody that’s good, or great, really, it just makes the game a lot easier.”

Tom Thibodeau: Knicks Have Flexibility To 'Downsize' Lineup Without Mitchell Robinson

Feb 13, 2021 12:27 PM

Tom Thibodeau discussed his lineup options without Mitchell Robinson, including going smaller.

“We’ll have some flexibility. We can play smaller (lineups). I like what Taj (Gibson) gives us. Obviously, the great value and the things that Mitch brought to the team was the defensive component and I feel that Nerlens (Noel) does many of those things extremely well," said Thibodeau when discussing replacements.

Robinson suffered a fractured right hand on Friday night.

Thibodeau also pointed to Obi Toppin and Kevin Knox as a way to "downsize" the lineup.

“But I like the way Obi (Toppin)’s coming on. He’s giving us good minutes. So we have that option. We can downsize and can play Kevin (Knox) at the 4. Play Julius (Randle) at the 5. There’s a number of things we can do. I like the versatility of our team."

Knicks Remain Most Valuable NBA Franchise On Forbes List, Warriors Move Into Second

Feb 11, 2021 1:18 AM

The New York Knicks are the most valuable franchise in the NBA for the sixth consecutive season, according to Forbes.

The Knicks are currently valued at $5 billion.

The Warriors moved past the Lakers into second place with a $4.7 billion valuation. It is the first time since the Bulls in 2000 that the Lakers and Knicks were not the two most valuable teams in the league.

The average value of teams increased by 4% from last year to $2.2 billion, the smallest increase since 2010.

The average team lost 12% in profit last season, down to $62 million.

Forbes estimates that every team still delivered positive operating income, with the Warriors posting a record $200 million.

The Lakers, Bulls, and Celtics round out the top 5.
