Knicks Willing To Discuss Trading Derrick Rose, Immanuel Quickley

Nov 18, 2022 11:15 AM

The New York Knicks have been willing to entertain a trade involving Derrick Rose and Immanuel Quickley, sources tell Shams Charania of The Athletic.

The Knicks have an excess of guards on their roster and moving one of those two players could balance out their rotations.

Rose re-signed with the Knicks in 2021 on a three-year, $43 million deal. The Knicks have a team option on Rose for the 23-24 season.

Quckley will be extension eligible this offseason.

Tom Thibodeau Drops Evan Fournier, Quentin Grimes From Knicks Rotation

Nov 16, 2022 8:57 AM

Before the New York Knicks game at the Utah Jazz on Tuesday, Tom Thibodeau hinted at a potential rotation change. But Thibodeau didn't change his starting lineup as expected. Instead, he trimmed his rotation.

Evan Fournier and Quentin Grimes were both dropped from the rotation. The Knicks ran a nine-man group in a road victory over the Jazz. And Thibodeau was happy with the results.

“We wanted to see what it would look like and it gave us, I thought, better rhythm,” Thibodeau said. “That’s why we did it.”

Fournier had opened the year as a starter, but lost that role to Cam Reddish. Since then, Fournier has seen his playing time steadily decline. Grimes opened the year recovering from an injury and has yet to find the form from him promising rookie season.

Knicks Getting Trade Interest For Immanuel Quickley

Nov 12, 2022 8:51 AM

The New York Knicks are getting trade calls for guard Immanual Quickley. While the Knicks aren't looking to move the third-year guard, other teams see New York's surplus at the position as a way to get Quickley.

This season, Quickley is off to a slow start. He's averaging a career-low 7.5 points per game and he's shooting just 34.8% from the field, including 28.3% on three-pointers.

Quickley will be extension-eligible this coming offseason. Rival teams think New York will be motivated to move at least one of their guards by the trade deadline to open up playing time for the others.

Donovan Mitchell Thought Trade To Knicks 'Was Happening'

Nov 11, 2022 11:56 AM

Donovan Mitchell expected he would eventually be traded to the New York Knicks, but the Utah Jazz instead sent him to the Cleveland Cavaliers in a surprise move.

Mitchell was asked by Sam Amick of The Athletic if he knew who would have been traded by the Knicks to the Jazz.

"I was told it was RJ (Barrett) and hella (draft) picks. That’s what I heard. And I thought that was happening. I thought that was it. I’m there (on the East Coast) all offseason. I’m there in the summer. So that’s why I thought, 'All right, this is gonna be a long haul in Cleveland (if they gave up Garland, Mobley and/or Allen in the deal).' But when I found out those guys were (not in the deal), it was like, 'All right, we can really do something. Like, we really could do something.' Nothing to slight the guys that were involved in the deal going to Utah. But for me, it was just like, 'We have the talent.' I said it at the press conference: Our talent is scary, but we’ve got to go out there and do it."

Mitchell was asked if it was true he was focused on a trade to either the Knicks, Brooklyn Nets or Miami Heat.

"I never said that," replied Mitchell. "I don’t know where that came from. I didn’t say that. I didn’t say a lot."

Mitchell was then asked if the Cavaliers were on his radar before the trade.

"Anything you heard in the news is what I heard," said Mitchell. "Like, when I said that I heard Cleveland was in there for a second and took their name out, that’s what I thought. So I didn’t think about it. It wasn’t one that was on my radar. I just said, 'Look, I’m just gonna play wherever I’m at.' If it came back to training camp in Utah, I’d be ready for that. I took the summer to say, 'Look, I played like s— in the playoffs. I wasn’t my best self, and I want to be the best me I could be for wherever the hell I’m at. Wherever the hell I’m at — New York, Brooklyn, Miami, Toronto, OKC, Utah."

Mitchell Robinson Out At Least One Week With Sprained Right Knee

Nov 6, 2022 8:06 AM

The New York Knicks will be without starting center Mitchell Robinson for at least one week due to a sprained right knee. Robinson was injured during New York's victory over the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday.

Robinson will be re-evaluated in 7-10 days. While Robinson is out, Isaiah Hartenstein will start, as he did in Saturday's loss to the Boston Celtics.

Robinson has averaged 6.5 points, 6.4 rebounds and 2.3 blocks in 21.8 minutes per game this season. Robinson is also shooting 69.7% from the field to open the year.

Evan Fournier On Being Benched: It Is What It Is

Nov 6, 2022 7:51 AM

Evan Fournier has seen a lot in his 11-year career. That's helped him take being moved to the bench in stride.

Fournier was initially replaced in the New York Knicks starting lineup by Quentin Grimes two games ago. With Grimes out on Saturday due to injury, Fournier stayed on the bench with Cam Reddish drawing the start.

“It is what it is. I’m in Year 11. So, I know a lot of things can happen,” Fournier said after the initial benching. “We see it every year. Last year with Kemba (Walker). So, I’m going to do the best with what I have, try to impact winning and be a good teammate. That’s all you can ask for. Just do my best. Be a pro and take it from there…By doing your job."

Fournier said Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau doesn't have to justify his decision to change the starting lineup.

“He doesn’t need to explain himself. He made a decision,” Fournier said of Thibodeau. “We’re a team and have to move forward.”
