Tom Thibodeau Not Worried About Rumors On Job Security, Relationship With Leon Rose, William Wesley Remains Good

Feb 24, 2022 4:16 PM

The New York Knicks followed up their breakout 20-21 season in which they were the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference with a disappointing 21-22. The future of Tom Thibodeau as head coach is uncertain per recent reports, but he remains confident of his standing.

Ian Begley reported last week that William Wesley has been critical of Thibodeau in discussions with James Dolan.

“I talk to Wes all the time,” Thibodeau said Wednesday. “I don’t respond to rumors or any of that stuff. I know the drill here. I’ve been here before, so I don’t worry about any of that stuff.”

Thibodeau has a long history working with Leon Rose and Wesley that predates the Knicks.

“I talk to Leon every day, talk to Wes every day,” said Thibodeau, who is in the second year of a five-year contract. “So that doesn’t change.”

Kemba Walker, Knicks Agree He'll Miss Rest Of Season, Work On Trade In Offseason

Feb 23, 2022 4:53 PM

Kemba Walker and the New York Knicks have agreed that he will remain out for the remainder of the season, which will allow him to work out in preparation of the 22-23 season. With Walker on an expiring deal in the offseason, the Knicks and agent Jeff Schwartz will work on trade scenarios.

Walker signed a two-year deal with the Knicks in the offseason.

Tom Thibodeau dropped Walker from the Knicks' playing rotation in mid-November, after he averaged 11.7 points in the team's first 18 games. Walker returned in December following injuries and COVID-19 absences.

Walker moved in and out of the Knicks' lineup with knee soreness in January.

Hometown Kids, Karl-Anthony Towns Shine On All-Star Saturday

Feb 20, 2022 8:25 AM

NBA All-Star Saturday had some twists on previous competitions and delivered some surprising results. Ohio-related stars stole the show to delight the Cleveland crowd.

The hometown Cleveland Cavaliers took home the first team-version of the Skills Contest. Team Cavs, consisting of Jarrett Allen, Darius Garland and Evan Mobley defeated Team Rookies, consisting of Scottie Barnes, Cade Cunningham and Josh Giddey. Mobley won the contest for Team Cavs by draining his first half-court shot attempt in the final round. Team Antetokounmpo, featuring Giannis, Thanasis and Alex Antetokounmpo was eliminated after the first round.

In the Three-Point Contest, Karl-Anthony Towns was dominant. Towns came into the contest with the worst odds and blew away the field. The Minnesota Timberwolves center scored the second-highest total ever with 29 points in the final round.

In a somewhat underwhelming Dunk Contest, Ohio got another win. Dayton University product Obi Toppin was the most consistent performer on his way to a championship. Toppin's first two dunks featured him jumping over dunk coach Chuck Milan and a windmill dunk. In the final round, the New York Knicks forward tried a dunk where he palmed the ball against the glass before dunking. After two attempts, he tossed the ball off the glass and windmilled it after going through his legs. Needing to just complete a dunk on his final attempt to win the contest, Toppin pulled off his originally planned slam.

William Wesley Has Been Critical Of Tom Thibodeau In Discussions With James Dolan

Feb 17, 2022 3:06 PM

During conversations with James Dolan this month, William Wesley has been blaming the New York Knicks disappointing season, at least in part, to the coaching of Tom Thibodeau, sources tell Ian Begley of SNY.tv.

Leon Rose and Wesley hired Thibodeau in 2020. Part of the allure of hiring Thibodeau was how close the trio have been for years.

Wesley’s criticism of Thibodeau suggests that the coach and management are not on the same page.

Sources also say Thiobdeau was angry when the Knicks didn't make any trades at the deadline. Thibodeau believed the Knicks would benefit from a roster upgrade.

The Knicks have made a number of personnel decisions that didn't align with Thibodeau's thinking.

Knicks No Longer Hold Same Appeal For Damian Lillard

Feb 14, 2022 12:10 PM

With a disappointing season to follow-up their return to the playoffs in 2021, the New York Knicks no longer hold the same appeal for Damian Lillard, a source told Marc Berman of the New York.

The Portland Trail Blazers are trying to reset their roster around Lillard, who is unlikely to return this season.

The Knicks and Philadelphia 76ers were considered the two teams most likely to pursue Lillard last offseason, but the Sixers effectively took themselves out of the running by trading for James Harden last week.

The Blazers are widely expected to trade Lillard to a destination he would welcome should he be dealt.

One source said New York's chances of trading for Lillard would have improved had they signed DeMar DeRozan in the offseason. DeRozan is having an All-Star season for the Chicago Bulls. Lillard and DeRozan are friends and share the same agent.

Knicks To Sign Ryan Arcidiacono For Remainder Of Season

Feb 13, 2022 2:01 PM

The New York Knicks are going to fill their open roster spot with a familiar face. Ryan Arcidiacono will sign with New York for the remainder of the 2021-22 season.

Arcidiacono completed two 10-day deals with the Knicks earlier this season, but did not appear in a game. The four-year veteran has appeared in 207 games (36 starts), all with the Chicago Bulls. He holds career averages of 4.8 points and 2.2 assists per game.

This season, Arcidiacono has played for the Maine Celtics of the G League. In eight games (six starts), the point guard has averaged 11 points, 4.6 rebounds, 6.9 assists and 1.4 steals per game for Maine.

The Minnesota Timberwolves parted ways with Rosas in September after a relationship with an employee was disclosed. Sachin Gupta replaced Rosas in running the Wolves.

Rosas previously worked for the Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks.

Leon Rose has run the front office of the Knicks since 2020. Rosas and Rose are known to have a close relationship.

Knicks Emerge With Interest In Trading For CJ McCollum

Feb 7, 2022 11:34 AM

The New York Knicks have emerged as a legitimate trade suitor with the Portland Trail Blazers for CJ McCollum.

A trade of McCollum appears more likely than it has ever been as the Blazers look to reset around Damian Lillard.

The New Orleans Pelicans have previously been the team most frequently linked to McCollum. The Dallas Mavericks are also believed to have interest in McCollum.

McCollum is signed through 23-24.

Knicks Express Interest In De'Aaron Fox

Feb 4, 2022 8:34 AM

The New York Knicks have expressed interest in trading for De'Aaron Fox. Fox is averaging 31.0 points, 3.8 rebounds and 5.2 assists this season in the Sacramento Kings' crowded backcourt. Fox is signed through the 25-26 season.

"This has been reported elsewhere, but I've heard as well that the Knicks have shown some interest in De'Aaron Fox," said Brian Windhorst on his podcast. "The player that makes the most sense in that swap is Julius Randle."

Randle signed a four-year, $117 million extension with the Knicks this past offseason, but has had a disappointing season with Windhorst citing frustrations between Randle and Tom Thibodeau and the fans.

The Knicks remain on the market for a point guard and have also been linked to Jalen Brunson.
