Knicks Likely Would Have To Trade No. 11 Or Immanuel Quickley To Create Cap Space

May 31, 2022 12:47 PM

The New York Knicks nearly sent out the contracts of Alec Burks and Nerlens Noel at the deadline to clear cap space to pursue Jalen Brunson in free agency.

League executives believe the Knicks would have to trade either the No. 11 pick or Immanuel Quickley in order to incentivize a team to take on log-term salary.

Brunson can sign a five-year deal with the Dallas Mavericks or a four-year deal with a rival team. The Knicks could offer Brunson a role as the starting point guard and lead ball-handler, which won't happen with the Mavericks.

Brunson also has a connection to Leon Rose as his father, Rick Brunson, was a longtime client.

Knicks Expect Mitchell Robinson To Get Interest From Multiple Playoff Teams

May 28, 2022 1:27 AM

Members of the New York Knicks organization expect Mitchell Robinson to receive interest from multiple playoff teams, sources told Ian Begley of SNY.

Robinson is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.

Prior to the draft lottery, several people within the team were in favor of re-signing Robinson due to his pivotal role in Tom Thibodeau's defense.

The Pistons and Thunder previously had interest in Robinson during this season's trade deadline.

Begley adds that the Knicks have sent trainers to work with Robinson this offseason.

Knicks, Pistons, Pacers Expected To Pursue Jalen Brunson In Free Agency

May 11, 2022 9:51 AM

Jalen Brunson may be the best player on the 2022 free agent market who may actually change teams. While the Dallas Mavericks continue to express confidence that they'll re-sign Brunson, they'll have competition for the point guard this summer.

The New York Knicks, Detroit Pistons and Indiana Pacers are all expected to pursue Brunson.

New York has long been a fan of Brunson, and they have a need for a starting point guard. The Kemba Walker signing didn't work out, and Derrick Rose has been unable to stay healthy. The Knicks would have to work out a sign-and-trade for Brunson, as they do not project to have cap space in July.

The Pistons project to have the most available cap space this offseason. They reportedly like Brunson's fit next to Cade Cunningham in an on and off-ball role, similar to the one Brunson has had next to Luka Doncic.

Indiana has Brunson's former coach in Rick Carlisle. The Pacers are also expected to explore trades for Malcolm Brogdon, which would open up a backcourt spot for Brunson.
