Durant: Thunder Focus Better On Road

Dec 28, 2009 2:52 PM

Thunder forward Kevin Durant believes that his team focuses better away from home.

With a win over the Nets on Monday night, Oklahoma City will match the number of road wins that had all of last season (eight).

"To be honest with you, I think our focus is a little bit better on the road than it is at home," said Durant. "I know that's kind of difficult to say... We're trying to find our balance between playing better at home and also playing on the road."

Russell Westbrook says that defense is the difference.

"That's always the key for us," Westbrook said. "When we defend, we put ourselves in a position to win games. That's the biggest thing for us."

The Thunder are 8-7 at home and 7-7 on the road this season.

Maynor, Harpring Trade Saves Jazz $10M

Dec 23, 2009 7:44 AM

The Jazz saved themselves $10 million on Tuesday when they traded rookie guard Eric Maynor and Matt Harpring's expiring contract to the Thunder.

In exchange for Maynor and Harpring, Utah received the rights to a German player that has never appeared in an NBA game.

"It's good for Oklahoma City, because they get a good young player (in Maynor)," Jazz general manager Kevin O'Connor said. "And it's good for us, because it allows us to address our financial situation.

"Basically the reason we did that was to relieve ourselves of some luxury-tax responsibilities ... and to do that we had to give up an asset," he added. "It was a difficult decision. We're disappointed that we had to do that, but in these economic times we saved a great deal of money and we're able to be aggressive, still, going forward."

The Jazz are in excess of the salary cap and luxury-tax threshold.

Durant Passes On Dunk Contest

Dec 19, 2009 11:23 AM

Thunder forward Kevin Durant has turned down the chance to participate in February's Slam Dunk Contest.

Durant wrote Friday on his blog that he doesn't consider himself a contest dunker and that he doesn't "even do any good dunks in games."

"I don't jump high enough for those guys," Durant said Friday night before the Thunder played the Pistons.

"Shannon Brown, LeBron [James], Rudy Gay, Dwight Howard, Nate Robinson, they're like all the way at the top of the mountain. I'm all the way at the bottom, trying to climb my way up."

Durant won the first H-O-R-S-E competition during All-Star weekend this past February and said that he hopes to defend that title in Dallas on Feb. 13.

Durant Doesn't Believe Oden Plays In His Shadow

Dec 10, 2009 10:51 AM

Kevin Durant expressed sympathy when asked about Greg Oden's recent season-ending injury.

Durant was asked the media if he feels as though Oden had been playing in his shadow.

?Those guys are a playoff team and are one of the top teams in the West,?  Durant said. ?Without him they wouldn?t be there. So I guess I?m living in his shadow. He was the No. 1 pick. I was the No. 2. And his team is doing better. I?m just trying to fight toward that with my team. So I wouldn?t say he?s in my shadow.?

Durant said he believes Oden will bounce back from this injury much like he did when recovering from the microfracture surgery that caused him to miss the entire 2007-08 season.

?The last injury he came back and was stronger,? Durant said. ?He was playing well, and I know for a fact that if everything works out and his knee gets better and he continues to rehab and everything he?s going to come back better. He?s going to come back with a chip on his shoulder and he?s going to be tough on a lot of defenders.?
