Terry Expecting Higher 4th Quarter Usage

Apr 29, 2012 11:06 PM

Jason Terry was shut down by Russell Westbrook in the fourth quarter of the Mavericks’ Game 1 loss to Oklahoma City.

Terry finished with 20 points on 8-of-10 shooting, but attempted just one shot in the final period.

“Doesn’t even matter,” Terry said. “I bet I get touches this next fourth quarter. I will. That’s all I can tell you. I can’t tell you other than that. And you know when I say it, it’s going to happen.”

Terry has been the Mavericks’ most consistent clutch-scorer outside of Dirk Nowitzki.

“We have to figure out different ways to get Jet in different positions to get the ball to be successful,” Jason Kidd said. “We expect to see that tomorrow. Hopefully we can get him in the right spot and hopefully he’s still hot. He had a great game, and it was our fault that we couldn’t get him the ball in that fourth quarter.”

Harden Ready For Game 1, Promises To Be Aggressive

Apr 28, 2012 11:17 AM

James Harden practiced on Friday and said he is ready to play in Game 1 against Dallas.

Harden suffered a concussion last Sunday after receiving an elbow from World Metta Peace.

Harden said he won't be hesitant and will remain aggressive.

“That's how I play,” Harden said. “Can't be nervous out there. Just go out there, get the ball, and attack, play hard. Can't worry about it, getting injured or anything.”

“He's fine,” said Scott Brooks. “It would be different if you go to the basket, one of his monster dunks, and he gets clipped and falls on his head. That might be a little different the next time he goes to the basket.”

Harden's production comes from the consistency of his ability to drive to the baket.

“He's an old-school type of player,” Kevin Durant said. “He gets going, he can find a way to get to the rim, get to the (foul) line. I'm sure he's just ready to play.

“James is a strong person. He's a positive person. He doesn't let anything like that bring him down.”

Paul Could Replace Fisher As Union President

Apr 23, 2012 10:12 AM

Chris Paul has emerged as a potential replacement for NBA Players Association president Derek Fisher.

"We can't, by bylaws, say who is going to be the president. That would have to go to a vote," NBPA vice president Mo Evans said. "Chris Paul's name may circulate as one of the players who could fulfill that role, given that he's a younger player (at 26), on the executive committee and played a huge role during the lockout. He has the respect of a lot of players."

The NBPA executive committee voted 8-0 for Fisher’s resignation, according to a statement the committee released late Friday.

Fisher has called for "an independent review of the business practices and finances" of the Players Association.

Metta World Peace was ejected for elbowing James Harden in the head during the second quarter of the Lakers’ 114-106 win over the Thunder on Sunday.

World Peace had just dunked on a fast break and was pounding his chest in celebration when he ran into Harden and swung his left elbow into Harden’s head.

World Peace was ejected after a referee consultation and will undoubtedly face a multi-game suspension from the league.

Harden was held out of the rest of the game for precautionary reasons.

Thunder Intend To Re-Sign Both Harden, Ibaka

Apr 22, 2012 11:26 AM

Sam Presti said the Thunder are expecting to sign both James Harden and Serge Ibaka.

"We're looking forward to having those conversations," Presti said. "Those guys are guys we drafted and have developed internally. We see them as guys who are important to sustaining our team."

There is speculation around the league that the Thunder eventually will have to pick between Harden and Ibaka, both of whom will become restricted free agents at the end of next season.

Harden is set to earn $5.8 million and one assistant general manager believes the third-year player could command as much as $10 million per year in free agency.

Brooks Won't Sit Players Ahead Of Playoffs

Apr 9, 2012 12:49 PM

Scott Brooks has no plans to rest any of his players before the start of the playoffs, but he limited the minutes during their convincing 91-75 win over Toronto on Sunday.

Thabo Sefolosha was the only starter who played in the fourth quarter.

“If we keep winning like this, I'll get a rest,” said Russell Westbrook.

Brooks has likened the strategy of sitting players to “cheating the game” and the fans.

“If we had a bunch of veteran guys in their 30s, there's no question things would be different,” Brooks said. “But our guys, if you take out some of the guys, they'll think I'm benching them twice a game. They want to play every minute. They love to play and they want to keep playing. It's like pulling teeth to get five or six minutes out of them per half.”

Thunder Limiting Turnovers

Apr 2, 2012 10:39 AM

The Thunder have improved upon limiting turnovers throughout the season. The team has been ranked last or second to last in turnovers for most of the season, but have averaged just 15.1 per game since March 1st.

“It's something we struggled with early in the year,” said Russell Westbrook. “But in order for us to win in the playoffs, we're going to definitely have to cut that down and we've been doing that.”

“It's always in the back of my mind," Scott Brooks said of the turnovers. “It's important that we continue to take care of the ball and make simple plays. I think it's improving. I'm not going to say we solved that mystery. But it seems like now it's one guy instead of multiple guys turning it over in a game. And it's not the same guy. Every game, they switch. It's almost like they're relay racers. ‘It's your turn to turn it over tonight.'"
