Tobias Harris Surprised Bucks Traded Him

Mar 16, 2013 11:19 PM

Tobias Harris has thrived since being traded to the Orlando Magic at the trade deadline, averaging 15.9 points and 7.3 rebounds in 30.9 minutes per game. But Harris admits he did not expect to be traded by the Bucks in a deal that brought J.J. Redick to Milwaukee.

"Hearing you're a key asset to the team and part of the team's future, yeah, I was surprised," Harris said. "But I know it's a business. It's part of the game.

"You can't hold your head too long. And I knew the situation in Orlando was a good situation for me."

Harris still maintains contact with players on the Bucks, including Larry Sanders, John Henson, Marquis Daniels, Drew Gooden and Joel Pryzbilla.

Dwight Howard Expecting Loud Boos In Return To Orlando

Mar 11, 2013 11:41 PM

Dwight Howard expects to receive piercing, angry boo birds when he makes his return to Orlando on Tuesday when his Los Angeles Lakers face the Magic.

"I'm going to start listening to 'boo' tapes," Howard said.

Even so, Howard is looking forward to being in his home again.

"I'm just looking forward to being back in Orlando. It's a place where I spent my life up until now," said Howard, who played his first eight NBA seasons there. "It's going to be difficult to see things, but I'm happy that I'm in a better place now than I was the beginning of the season."

Howard Apologizes To Orlando For How He Handled Departure

Mar 10, 2013 7:40 PM

Dwight Howard has apologized to the fans of Orlando ahead of his first return trip with the Lakers on Tuesday.

"In Orlando, I handled a lot of stuff the wrong way," Howard told the USA Today from his home. "If any of those people in Orlando are upset with how I did it, I apologize for the way I handled it and the way it was handled in the media.

"I really just got caught up in wanting to please everybody else. I really love that city. That was the hardest thing to do was to leave that city because I basically grew up there. That was my whole life. Orlando was it. I did not want to leave all that behind — the city, just everything about it. The fans. But I wanted a change for my life. I just felt like there was something else out there for me."

Howard has been widely criticized for how he handled his exit from the Magic and has lost sponsorship deals in the process.

"There are a lot of things about me that have changed," said Howard. "I'm becoming a better man because of the stuff that has happened to me this last year and a half. Everybody goes through stuff like this. Even though I'm going through it where everybody in the world can see it, I'm happy that it's happening.

"If it didn't happen, I'd be stuck in my ways. I would never change, and then it would be a lot worse. For all this stuff to happen, for me to sit back and see and evaluate myself and what I could've done better and realize that I needed to make a change, I'm getting better. I'm growing up. I'm maturing."

Glen Davis Eating Vegan Diet To Lose Weight

Mar 8, 2013 1:06 PM

Glen Davis has begun to eat a vegan diet in order to lose weight and lessen the strain on his body.

Davis fractured his left foot on Jan. 30.

“The lighter, the better,” Davis said. “No pressure on that foot. I’m just trying to find ways to eat comfortably and also have a little bit of taste. It’s difficult, but at the same time, it’s about your mental mind-set. You’ve just got to stay with it.”

Dwight: Comments On Former Teammates Meant Magic Were Underdogs

Mar 6, 2013 11:57 PM

Dwight Howard has received backlash from former Orlando Magic teammates because of his comments saying they were "a team full of people nobody wanted."

However, Howard provided clarity on his comments Wednesday, stating he meant the Magic were always underdogs when he was there -- not in a disrespectful way.

"It was never intended to disrespect or downgrade any of those guys," Howard said.

"I would always tell them I wouldn’t trade them for the world."

Howard will face the Magic in Orlando next Tuesday for the first time since being traded to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Jameer Nelson: Dwight Needs To Take Ownership Of Comments To Media

Mar 6, 2013 4:11 PM

Jameer Nelson responded to comments made by Dwight Howard disparaging his former teammates with the Orlando Magic.

“My team in Orlando was a team full of people who nobody wanted, and I was the leader and I led that team with a smile on my face,” Howard said.

“At some point, when are you [Dwight] gonna as a man, when are you going to take ownership and stay out of the media in a professional manner?” Nelson said on Wednesday.

Howard and Nelson were initially close teammates, but their relationship was strained when Howard talked about playing with an elite point guard like Chris Paul.

Rivers Compares Bynum Situation To His Experience With Magic, Grant Hill

Mar 6, 2013 10:03 AM

Doc Rivers compared what Doug Collins is going through with Andrew Bynum's injury uncertainty to his tenure with the Orlando Magic when Grant Hill struggled with persistent injuries.

“I had Grant Hill for three years and we made the playoffs every year with that group, but it was hard,” Rivers said. “[The 76ers] are doing that same thing we did.

“You go into the year with your offense and defensive schemes for Grant and for Bynum, and then you’re running half of it but you don’t want to change too much uncertainty if he comes back, then you’re going to have to change back.

“You just felt like you were caught in flux the entire season. In our case, Grant would play, like, three games and sit out 30 more. It was really hard.”
