Three Ejected After Confrontation In Magic-Pistons Game

Dec 29, 2022 9:45 AM

With just over 33 seconds to play in the first half of their Wednesday game, chaos broke out between the Orlando Magic and Detroit Pistons. Following a turnover, Moritz Wagner of Orlando forcefully bumped Killian Hayes of the Pistons into the Detroit bench.

Multiple Pistons confronted Wagner, most noticeably Hamidou Diallo, who shoved Wagner. Hayes got up and appeared to throw a punch at Wagner that connected.

That brought several Magic players into the fray. Video appeared to show several Orlando players leave their bench area during the dustup.

After a lengthy review, the officials ejected Wagner for committing a Flagrant 2 foul and Diallo and Hayes for escalating the confrontation. Pistons coach Dwane Casey questioned after the game why the Magic players who left their bench were also not ejected.

The NBA is expected to hand down multiple fines, and possibly suspensions, after reviewing the incident.

Magic Expected To Seek First Round Pick For Mo Bamba

Dec 20, 2022 9:57 PM

Mo Bamba could be the most realistic trade candidate for the Orlando Magic this season considering his value relative to other dispensable players on their roster.

Bamba re-signed with the Magic last offseason on a two-year, $20.6 million deal.

Sources tell Jake Fischer they expect the Magic to seek a protected first round pick or a late first round pick for Bamba.

The Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, Toronto Raptors, Sacramento Kings and Brooklyn Nets are expected to be on the market for a big man and could be willing to trade a pair of second rounders.

Chuma Okeke To Miss At Least One Month After Knee Surgery

Dec 20, 2022 9:15 AM

Orlando Magic forward Chuma Okeke is expected to miss at least one month after undergoing surgery on his left knee. Okeke had arthroscopic surgery on Monday to repair and reshape damaged cartilage in a joint in his left knee.

Okeke has missed Orlando's last 14 games. In the 18 games he had played, Okeke struggled to find much traction. He's averaged 5.4 points and 4.2 rebounds, while shooting 36.8% from the field and just 30% on three-pointers.

During the 2019 NCAA Tournament, Okeke tore his left ACL. That injury caused him to fall in the draft. The Auburn product also delayed signing his rookie scale contract by a year. That means despite being drafted in 2019, Okeke is in just his third season with the Magic.

Jonathan Isaac Assigned To G League For Rehab Practices

Dec 6, 2022 8:51 AM

Orlando Magic forward Jonathan Isaac is taking the next step towards his return to the court. Orlando has assigned Isaac to the Lakeland Magic of the G League to continue his rehab.

Isaac is expected to practice with Lakeland, including scrimmaging over the coming days. He's not expected to play in any G League games with Lakeland.

NBA teams have increasingly used the G League for these types of "rehab assignments". The NBA schedule affords little practice time, so teams regularly send their players to the G League team to get a full day of work in.

Isaac last played in an NBA game on August 2, 2020 in the bubble at Walt Disney World. He tore multiple knee ligaments on that date. Those injuries, and subsequent hamstring issues, have caused Isaac to miss the last two complete seasons. There is still no timeline for when Isaac may play in an NBA game again.
