McKie sits out game at Utah

Dec 30, 2003 2:31 AM

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) Philadelphia guard Aaron McKie missed Monday night's game at Utah with a strained hamstring.

McKie, who injured his left hamstring Sunday night in the 76ers' 100-92 loss at Phoenix, had played in all 30 of Philadelphia's games. He is fourth on the team in scoring with an average of 11.1 points per game.

The Sixers were also without Allen Iverson for the eighth straight game because of an injured right knee.

Jazz center Greg Ostertag also missed the game with a sore left knee. He has sat out two of the last three games.

West will have to be won without ailing Iverson

Dec 29, 2003 10:36 AM

Sixers guard Allen Iverson (bruised right knee) won't be making the Sixers west coast road trip.

"Coach Randy Ayers, before last night's game with the Phoenix Suns, confirmed that Iverson - who missed his seventh consecutive game and eighth in the last nine - would remain in Philadelphia, continuing a conditioning and therapy program designed to rebuild the strength in his right leg."

The hope now is that he can return for Philadelphia's Jan.5 game against the Milwaukee Bucks.

Monty Williams traded to Orlando

Dec 23, 2003 6:03 PM

"Philadelphia 76ers President and General Manager Billy King announced today that the Sixers have acquired a 2004 conditional second round draft pick from the Orlando Magic in exchange for Monty Williams, a 2004 conditional second round draft pick and an undisclosed amount of cash."

The second-round pick Philadelphia is sending to Orlando is one they acquired from the Golden State Warriors in a deal for Jiri Welsch two years ago. It is the Warriors' 2004 second-round pick.

The conditions of the second-round pick Orlando sent to Philadelphia are unknown at this time.

The Magic used the Traded Player Exception they received earlier today from the Donnell Harvey trade to acquire Williams.

Philadelphia made this deal to either clear a much needed spot for their injury-riddled team on the injured list and to help avoid the luxury ax, while getting a Traded Player Exception worth about $1 million that they can use in a future deal.

Rest, not West, likely for Iverson

Dec 22, 2003 9:48 AM

Sixers coach Randy Ayers has a bad feeling that guard Allen Iverson will not play on the team's upcoming west coast swing, which begins on Friday.

Iverson, who leads the NBA in scoring, steals, and minutes, has swelling in his bruised right knee and has missed five of the past six games.

Ayers, the Sixers' coach, said, "We'll have to evaluate him [today] and see how he feels." When asked whether he felt, as of the moment, that Iverson would travel Thursday, Ayers said, "No, not right now. It's just so up in the air."

"There's still some swelling [in the knee]," Ayers said. "One day it looks good, the next day it's a little puffy. Until we get it down on a consistent basis we're still going to always be concerned."

Iverson could be out until next month

Dec 16, 2003 11:02 PM

PHILADELPHIA (AP) Allen Iverson could be sidelined until January with a hurt right knee and wishes the Philadelphia 76ers would put him on the injured list.

The NBA's leading scorer has missed two of the team's last three games and said Tuesday he thinks he'll miss the 76ers' West Coast road trip that starts Dec. 26 at the Los Angeles Clippers.

The 76ers play four games before then, starting Wednesday at home against the Miami Heat.

``I don't want to go out West if I'm not able to play. The only thing that's going to do is bother me,'' Iverson said. ``One day, I'll wake up and feel a little better and try and go out there and play, and that might not be the best thing.''

Asked whether team doctors have let him know when his swollen knee will be healed, Iverson said: ``They can't tell me. Nobody's been able to tell me how long it's going to take.''

He's averaging 28.9 points, 6.1 assists and 3.8 rebounds for the Atlantic Division-leading 76ers (12-12). He also is playing 43.7 minutes per game.

``I honestly wish they could put me on the injured list so when I come to the games, I don't try to go out there and play. They tell me they don't have any room,'' Iverson said at practice.

``I'm not in a lot of pain. I'm not able to move like I want to move.''

Philadelphia lists Iverson's status as day-to-day.

Injuries have left the 76ers short-handed most of the season, including four games where only nine players dressed. The team has the maximum allotment of three players on the injured list: Will Green, Todd MacCulloch and Monty Williams.

Marc Jackson is expected to be sidelined at least a month after hand surgery. Glenn Robinson and Derrick Coleman also have been hampered by injuries.

``I can't do anything to help this team,'' Iverson said. ``I want to make sure I'm 100 percent when I come back.''

Iverson could be out until January

Dec 16, 2003 7:52 PM

Allen Iverson's swollen right knee could keep him out until the new year.

On Tuesday, Iverson, who leads the NBA in scoring with 28.9 ppg, said he expects to miss Philadelphia's upcoming west coast road trip, which starts on Dec. 26 at the Los Angeles Clippers, and the four games the Sixers play before it.

Things are so bad that he wants to be placed on the injured list.

"I honestly wish they could put me on the injured list so when I come to the games, I don't try to go out there and play. They tell me they don't have any room," Iverson said at practice.

"I don't want to go out West if I'm not able to play. The only thing that's going to do is bother me," Iverson said. "One day, I'll wake up and feel a little better and try and go out there and play, and that might not be the best thing."

"I'm not in a lot of pain. I'm not able to move like I want to move."

Team doctors have no idea when Iverson will be ready to return but the Sixers will not jeopardize his career by allowing to return early.

"We're not going to jeopardize his long-term career," 76ers coach Randy Ayers said. "We won't play him until he feels healthy enough to play, and I think you have to let players make that decision. We'll wait to see when he feels right."

Iverson's knee has been bothering since he fell on it during Philadelphia's game against Chicago on Dec. 4.

For now, Iverson is listed as day-to-day.

Iverson misses game against Utah to rest right knee

Dec 15, 2003 2:50 AM

PHILADELPHIA (AP) Allen Iverson missed the Philadelphia 76ers' game against the Utah Jazz on Sunday with swelling in his right knee.

Iverson, the NBA's leading scorer at 28.9 points per game, missed one game last week with the same injury, though he scored 18 points in 44 minutes against Denver on Friday.

``Not only does the knee have swelling, but I don't think there's a lot of strength there,'' 76ers coach Randy Ayers said. ``He couldn't push off the way he liked.''

Ayers said Iverson was day-to-day.

Robinson to return to Sixers' lineup

Dec 11, 2003 10:03 AM

But even they know they can only live on the edge for so long. That's why you could almost hear a collective sigh of relief yesterday when Glenn Robinson was activated after a 15-game absence and all indicators pointed to both Robinson and Iverson playing tomorrow night. Iverson missed Tuesday night's game because of a hematoma in his right knee.
