Dalembert Disappointed By Reduced Playing Time

Mar 22, 2006 10:07 PM

Sixers center Samuel Dalembert is unhappy with his demotion after Steven Hunter was elevated to start in front of his, the Associated Press is reporting.

Hunter, who was traded to New Orleans but returned back to the Sixers after the deal was rescinded, has worked his way into the starting role.

"I thought I was doing my job, but obviously I wasn't," Dalembert said.

The 6-foot-11 Dalembert has not started any of the last 11 games since returning from a sprained left ankle. Before that, he had started all 40 games he played this season. Dalembert, who signed a $64 million, six-year deal in the summer, said coach Maurice Cheeks never told him he was in danger of losing his starting spot.

"There was no warning, nothing."

"[If] I'm not capable of getting it done, or I'm not good for this team, let me know," he said. "It's not the biggest deal. I'm not going to get hurt by it. It's a business, but let me know. When you're going to be in a place that many years, you cannot be having years on-and-off like that."

Iverson Returns To Action

Mar 21, 2006 8:03 PM

Allen Iverson was back on the court Tuesday for the first time since spraining his right foot nine days ago, and is expected to be in the lineup for the Philadelphia 76ers against Atlanta on Wednesday.

Iverson, the NBA's second-leading scorer with an average of 33.2 points, missed the last four games after he bruised and sprained his foot against Memphis on March 12.

"It's sore, but that's what I expected," Iverson said after practice. "I knew that once I missed the road trip that I was going to try to go the first game back. We had a couple of days off and I had a chance to practice once, so I'll be ready to go tomorrow."

Iverson Calls Webber At 3 In The Morning

Mar 16, 2006 4:01 AM

Chris Webber and Allen Iverson spoke at length on the telephone in the early hours of Wednesday morning. They posed various questions about the 76ers, didn't reach any new conclusions. Mostly, it was therapeutic.

"A.I. called at 3 in the morning," Webber said after a brief practice yesterday in Key Arena, preparing for tonight's game against the Seattle SuperSonics. "[It was] 'What can we do? What should we do?' I don't think people realize how much he wants to win. We usually talk after every game late at night; I didn't think he was going to call me [Tuesday] night."

"I think [the trip] is just going to show our character, who we are, where we want to be," Webber said. "It's going to be tough for us, but that's the position we're in. We better make the best of it. It's a trip we can go 3-0, or we can go 0-3.

"We both sat on the phone kind of quiet and talked about it, about our zone offense, about the fourth quarter, how he and I have to be more aggressive. He told me I should be more aggressive in the fourth quarter as far as scoring, distributing when I can. We just had a real good conversation, just talking, brainstorming about things we should do, things we're going to try to do.

"He wanted to come out [yesterday], but that wouldn't have made any sense because he wouldn't have played [tonight], and you get more recuperation at home. I'm pretty sure, if he can, he'll be out here before the end of this trip. If not, then he couldn't."

Philly Could Sign A Point Guard

Mar 15, 2006 12:03 PM

Injuries to guards Allen Iverson and Kevin Ollie may mean that the Sixers will sign a point guard to a 10-day contract over the next few days.

"We still may do it, just to have a guy around," team president Billy King said.

With Iverson and Ollie out, John Salmons and rookie Louis Williams were the only point guards available to play on Tuesday night for the Sixers.
