Iverson Trade Rumors Overblown, King Says

Jun 30, 2006 3:26 AM

Sixers GM Billy King indicated that talks relating to Allen Iverson had been going on but that they weren't as intense or extensive as they were reported to be, according to a report in the Philadelphia Inquirer.

"The calls weren't just for Allen," King said yesterday. "I think [ESPN's] Andy Katz and those guys on TV made it seem like Boston had been steadily calling them and they're in negotiations. Every time I'm looking at it, I'm thinking I've been talking to more people about trying to get picks than talking to Danny Ainge," the Celtics' executive director of basketball operations.

"But the calls weren't just people calling about Allen. People were calling about a lot of other guys. People also wanted to move up to 13."

Two people running NBA teams insist Philadelphia president Billy King has been very active in calling clubs to find the best possible deal he can for Allen Iverson.

Danny Ainge appears to want Iverson in Boston badly, but he did say that they didn't acquire Sebastian Telfair to trade him.

"We didn't trade for Sebastian Telfair to send him to another team," Ainge said. "We got him to keep him. He's going to be a part of our team."

King: "I Know Our Roster Is Not Good Enough"

Jun 28, 2006 4:07 AM

While Billy King has surely not said that he intends to trade Allen Iverson, there is no reason to believe that he has ruled it out.

"I know our roster is not good enough," King said. "Can we improve it to where we can compete with the top teams? I don't know if you can do that in the offseason, but we're going to try. We're striving to put a team out there that will get better, that will play hard."

The Celtics and Warriors have been two teams that have been rumored to be involved in Iverson talks recently, while the Nuggets reportedly discussed a trade back in February.

Sixers Dismiss Barbosa Rumor

Jun 27, 2006 5:00 AM

Billy King denied a report from late last week in which the Sixers would look to trade down in the draft with Phoenix in the hopes of acquiring Leandro Barbosa.

''DraftExpress.com or whatever it is said that we were trading with Phoenix but we wanted [guard] Leandro Barbosa, and we never even mentioned Barbosa's name in the picture,'' King said. ''And the next day we were trading with New Jersey, and I hadn't even talked to Rod [Thorn, the Nets' general manager]. So like I said, there's just a lot of things out there.''

GM: Trade Rumors Cause Increase In Chatter Amongst Clubs

Jun 27, 2006 3:39 AM

Sixers president and GM Billy King has been very active of late, just as he is every June, but this year he has had to deal with daily rumors concerning an Allen Iverson trade.

"You just call everybody," he said. "You call people and you say, 'Let's make a deal' and just see if you can shake the bushes. But it's not initiating or getting more calls.

"When everything is written and all these rumors are out there, it makes more phone calls come in. People read the Internet and they say, 'Let me call them' because somebody wrote that we were trading with someone... . There's just so much thrown out there."

As for Iverson, King said he gets more calls about other players on his team.

"We talk to everybody," he said. "People have called us and we listen and that's our job. People call about a lot of our players. It's not just particularly Allen."

King also said that he would not be reluctant to trade within his division.

"You've got to look at each deal and evaluate them based on what's best for you," he said. "If you get what you think is going to make you better, then that's what you've got to do."

Boozer, Iverson Involved In Three-Way Deal?

Jun 26, 2006 11:07 PM

According to The Chicago Tribune, the Jazz have been involved in talks with Philadelphia and Boston about a three-way trade that would primarily involve All-Star Allen Iverson, Wally Szczerbiak and Carlos Boozer.

Reportedly, Utah would send Boozer to the 76ers, who would send Iverson to the Celtics, who would send Szczerbiak to the Jazz.

According to the Salt Lake Tribune, Utah would almost certainly have to get another player in such a considering Szczerbiak will be playing on a surgically-repaired knee and will be 30 in March.  Tribune writer Steve Luhm mentions Al Jefferson as a potential possibility.

Asked about the rumored three-team trade, however, O'Connor said, "It doesn't have as much life as everybody seems to think it does."
