76ers To Retire Allen Iverson's No. 3 In March

Nov 27, 2013 2:10 PM

The Philadelphia 76ers will officially retire Allen Iverson’s number “3” in a special halftime ceremony on Saturday, March 1, 2014 when the 76ers host the Washington Wizards.

Iverson led the 76ers to the 2001 NBA Finals.

“Allen Iverson is, without question, one of the most iconic players to ever wear the Sixers uniform,” said Philadelphia 76ers Chief Executive Officer Scott O’Neil. “Allen left everything out on the court and no one could ever question his heart – he was relentless, fearless and pound-for-pound, was one of the greatest to ever play the game.”

76ers Envision Intriguing Duo In Noel, Hawes

Nov 22, 2013 3:34 AM

Spencer Hawes has gotten off to a strong start for the Philadlephia 76ers, and Brett Brown sees the veteran center as an interesting core piece alongside Nerlens Noel in the frontcourt.

“Could those two play next to each other?” Brown said. “Yes they could.”

Brown likes the idea of Hawes at the power forward position.

Noel, 7-foot-1, is rehabilitating a torn ACL and has a strong chance of missing the entire season.

Hawes is averaging 16.2 points, as well as team-leading totals in rebounds (10.2), blocked shots (1.7), 3-pointers made (23) and 3-point percentage (48.9).

Bynum finished with four points and five rebounds in 18 minutes and seemed unfazed by the night.

“I thought it was funny,” Bynum said of his reception. “I thought it was a little weak. I thought it was going to be much worse.”

Hinkie Believes Winning Creates Confidence, Hope It Help Weather Some Storms

Nov 7, 2013 9:31 AM

Sam Hinkie is encouraged by what he has seen from the Philadelphia 76ers to start the season, but isn't ready to call them a playoff team.

"It's been fun for all of us," Hinkie said on Wednesday. "Good early rewards for the coaches and their efforts and what they've done behind the scenes and for the players, development-wise, they've gotten up and down, and some of your young players have really flourished in this new system.

"I was worried that I was going to have to get [former Sixer, current ambassador] World B. Free to talk to our young players and tell them what a great Philly crowd is like, but now we had the Miami and Chicago games, and they were great, loud crowds."

Brett Brown placed a special emphasis on fitness to start the season.

"[Winning] can only help them, and we talk to our players a lot about it," Hinkie said. "It's an everyday approach, and you're not sure when you're going to see results, but you have to keep at it and do whatever you think will help. Getting some positive results early gives some people some confidence, and hopefully it will help us weather some storms when the time comes."

Michael Carter-Williams helped lead the 76ers to the quick start and won Player of the Week honors.

Michael Carter-Williams Wants To Prove He Could Have Been No. 1 Pick

Nov 4, 2013 7:15 PM

Michael Carter-Williams fell to No. 11 to the Philadelphia 76ers in the NBA draft and has been a star through the first week of the regular season in leading the team to a 3-0 record.

"Every game I try to prove that I could've been the No. 1 pick," Carter-Williams said. "I have confidence in myself that I should've been."

Carter-Williams did not expect the 76ers to be a doormat as many projected, but he did not expect their current start.

"I'm definitely surprised," Carter-Williams said. "I knew we'd be OK. Not as bad as people were saying, but not like this."
