Nerlens Noel Steadily Progressing, Adding Muscle In Rehab

Dec 27, 2013 5:57 PM

Nerlens Noel is steadily progressing in his rehabilitation from a torn ACL, has added muscle, and weighed in at 223 pounds late last week, a source told RealGM.

Within the Philadlephia 76ers, there doesn’t appear to be any urgency to get Noel onto the court this season, and that’s a prudent approach given their current state and his upside.

James Anderson Finding Solidified NBA Role With 76ers

Dec 23, 2013 4:39 PM

After splitting time between the San Antonio Spurs and Houston Rockets over the past two seasons, James Anderson understood the Philadlephia 76ers’ claim of him in the offseason represented perhaps his best chance to find a role within an organization, especially a franchise with one of his former executives.

Nearly two months into the season, Anderson has fortified a two-guard spot, averaging 9.9 points highlighted by his 36-point game against the Houston Rockets on Nov. 13. The 24-year-old is confident he’s finding his place to stay among the 76ers’ young core.

“I’m definitely trying to establish myself playing with this young team that we have,” Anderson told RealGM. “I’m just continuing to grind and make a name for myself. Being that it’s my first real opportunity since my rookie year, I want to take advantage of it and keep pushing.”

Sam Hinkie had been with Anderson in Houston, and Brett Brown served as the guard’s assistant coach with the Spurs. Now, Anderson credits their presence for him landing with the 76ers and receiving playing time to prove himself.

“I knew both of them and they both knew my game,” Anderson said. “That definitely played a big part in me signing here. They both gave me the opportunity to establish myself in the NBA.”

Thaddeus Young Sorry To Have Been Involved In Brook Lopez's Broken Foot

Dec 22, 2013 3:05 PM

Thaddeus Young is sorry to have been involved in the play that almost certainly broke the foot of Brook Lopez.

Young and Lopez collided with less than five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter of the Brooklyn Nets' loss to the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday.

"It probably happened on that play," Young said. "I did see him grab his right foot when it happened. It was just one of those things - we were both trying to take a hard foul.

"I'm not even sure what happened," Young said. "I just know we got tangled up, and I helped him up. Brook is actually a good friend of mine. We've [known] each other since the 10th grade."

Lopez was having the best season of any player on the Nets.

"(He) having a great season and with a loaded team that has a chance to make a playoff push," Young said of Lopez. "It's a bad way to go out. I'm sorry I had to be the one to break his foot if I did, or that it had to be in our game."

Portland center Meyers Leonard and Philadelphia 76ers center Daniel Orton have each been suspended one game without pay, the NBA announced on Sunday.

The incident occurred with 7:19 remaining in the fourth quarter of the Trail Blazers' 139-105 win over the 76ers on Saturday, when Leonard initiated an altercation by body-slamming Orton to the floor, and Orton retaliated by elbowing Leonard in the mouth.

Thaddeus Young Hopes To Stay With 76ers, Not Focused On Trade Possibility

Dec 9, 2013 10:07 PM

Thaddeus Young has been adamant that he hopes to stay with the Philadelphia 76ers, but the veteran forward understands the nature of his name being involved in trade speculation, most recently with the Houston Rockets.

“It is what it is. Just taking it day by day,” Young said on Monday. “I’m not worried about a trade or anything like that. It’s a business. If it happens, it happens. I just have to live with it, keep moving on it. At the end of the day, I’m here. I’m ready. I’m focused. I’m ready to go out here and think about the game tonight.

"Not hard to keep focused. It’s basketball. It’s our job. It’s how we make our living. It’s how we make our money. It’s how we feed our families. At the end of the day, it is what it is if it happens. There’s nothing I can do about it.

"I definitely love Philly and want to continue being here. If they see fit to trade me, hey, my time is up. I have to move on.”

Young is averaging 15.8 points and 6.8 rebounds this season. The 6-8, 230-pound forward is earning $8.6 million.
