76ers' CEO: Loss To Nuggets 'Mind-Numbingly Bad'

Mar 22, 2013 10:47 AM

After the Philadelphia 76ers lost their eighth game over the past 11 on Thursday, CEO and co-owner Adam Aron publicly ripped the team.

The 76ers had control of their game against the Denver Nuggets, but Evan Turner missed two critical free throws, Damien Wilkins fouled a three-point shooting Corey Brewer, and Philadelphia lost 101-100.

"That was the worst last minute of 76ers basketball I've seen in ages," Aron posted on his verified Twitter account. "Mind-numbingly bad."

Iguodala Doesn't Regret Time With 76ers

Mar 22, 2013 10:41 AM

Andre Iguodala played against the Philadelphia 76ers on Thursday night and stated he still maintains contact with several former teammates.

Iguodala was traded to the Denver Nuggets last offseason, but he said Thursday that he has no regrets about his time with the 76ers.

"I try to look forward," Iguodala said. "I don't live with regrets. I still talk to the guys in Philly. But we talk mostly about things outside of basketball. I talk to Jrue [Holiday] about getting married. . . . And I talk with Evan [Turner] a lot. "

Andrew Bynum Not Remembered Fondly By Former HS Coaches

Mar 20, 2013 12:30 PM

Andrew Bynum has received criticism from NBA analysts such as Magic Johnson and former mentors like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and now his former high school coaches admit they do not have fond memories of the center.

"Everyone here at school says the same thing: What’s wrong with him? Why does he act like that?" says St. Joe’s athletic director Jerry Smith. "He went from someone we’re proud of to someone whose name we don’t even mention anymore."

Bynum, who attended St. Joseph High School before declaring for the 2005 NBA Draft, was officially announced out for the season on Monday with surgery on both knees.

"Yeah, I never respond to that kind of request, because Andrew has chosen not to stay in touch for whatever reason, so I just don’t get involved with it," says former St. Joe's coach Mark Taylor. "I don’t dislike him, and he’ll continue to do well if he can stay healthy, but I’m sure he’s got people who will guide him in times like this."

Andrew Bynum Out For Season To Undergo Surgery On Knees

Mar 18, 2013 9:48 PM

Andrew Bynum will undergo season-ending surgery to clean out both knees on Tuesday, according to sources.

Sources also confirmed the news to Yahoo's Adrian Wojnarowski and CBS Sports' Ken Berger.

The decision to have surgery was made by Bynum's doctor, a New York doctor and the Philadelphia 76ers team doctor.

Bynum has not played a single game since being traded to the 76ers last offseason in the Dwight Howard trade in which Philadelphia lost a package headlined by Andre Iguodala, Nikola Vucevic and Moe Harkless.

Bynum might not ever play for the 76ers despite the magnitude of assets the organization dealt for him.

Thorn: Bynum's Contract Partially Insured

Mar 14, 2013 11:41 AM

Rod Thorn confirmed that insurance will reimburse the Philadelphia 76ers for at least a portion of Andrew Bynum’s salary this season.

"There is a league-wide insurance that he's under that gives you some relief along those lines," Thorn said. "It's the same league-wide program that every player's under. Unless you have a pre-existing condition — and he didn't — so he's on the same one as everybody else.”

Thorn declined to disclose the percentage of salary relief the Sixers will receive from insurance.

"I don't want to say," Thorn said. "It's an insurance policy that everybody in the league has for their top players.”

Bynum is still determining whether to undergo arthroscopic surgery to remove loose cartilage from his ailing knees.

"I don't know exactly what's going to happen," Thorn said about whether Bynum will opt for surgery. "I think Andrew is very attuned to himself physically. He's obviously seen a lot of doctors, so I think he'll be able to make that decision when the time comes."

Rivers Compares Bynum Situation To His Experience With Magic, Grant Hill

Mar 6, 2013 10:03 AM

Doc Rivers compared what Doug Collins is going through with Andrew Bynum's injury uncertainty to his tenure with the Orlando Magic when Grant Hill struggled with persistent injuries.

“I had Grant Hill for three years and we made the playoffs every year with that group, but it was hard,” Rivers said. “[The 76ers] are doing that same thing we did.

“You go into the year with your offense and defensive schemes for Grant and for Bynum, and then you’re running half of it but you don’t want to change too much uncertainty if he comes back, then you’re going to have to change back.

“You just felt like you were caught in flux the entire season. In our case, Grant would play, like, three games and sit out 30 more. It was really hard.”
