The Philadelphia 76ers are expected to continue to be active in rebuilding their roster and have the ability to facilitate trades due to having the most cap space in the NBA.

"We will be an attractive trading partner for teams around the league all year - not just for players, but for the cap room that we have," Sam Hinkie said.

The 76ers are approximately $16.6 million under the cap for this season and could have as much as $36 million available next summer.

"That kind of flexibility will give us real options," Hinkie said.

David Vanterpool interviewed for the Philadelphia 76ers' head coach opening on Monday and is a serious candidate, according to sources.

Vanterpool is receiving legitimate consideration.

Brett Brown and Jay Larranaga are among the coaches who have made strong impressions in the process.

Vanterpool has made a strong impression in his first season as assistant coach for the Portland Trail Blazers.

"We'll focus on building something that will end in a place everybody will be proud of. If our young players play great, then things will move on quickly. If they don't, then it will move along more slowly," Hinkie said. "It's a little early right now. [Nerlens Noel and Michael Carter-Williams] are both under contract for four years. That allows you to look around the bend a little bit, and look past a turnover or be patient with an injury."

The Philadelphia 76ers have received permission from the Portland Trail Blazers to interview David Vanterpool for its head coaching vacancy.

The 76ers have been without a head coach since parting ways with Doug Collins.

The Philadelphia 76ers have narrowed their search down to Brett Brown and Michael Curry, according to Marc Stein.

Brown was the most recent interview and the New York Daily News had reported that he had been offered the job on the night of the NBA Draft.

Brown has been with the San Antonio Spurs since 2002.

Curry spent the past three seasons as associate head coach of the 76ers.

The Philadelphia 76ers claimed James Anderson and Tim Ohlbrecht off waivers.

The Houston Rockets waived both players last week.

Anderson was the 20th overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft by the San Antonio Spurs.
